My name is Jasmine Lopez, Im 11 years old and Im a U.S. citizen. If Congress doesn't take action now, I may not have my mom with me for the holidays.
Why is this important for me? Because Ive already experienced something close to losing my dad, and I dont want that to happen ever again.
I was born in Florida, but both my parents were born in Mexico and are living in the U.S. undocumented. Even though they were always careful when driving to work or to the grocery store, one day things got real for all of us. My dad was detained while driving because he couldnt get a drivers license. Thankfully, we were able to get him out of detention so he wouldnt get deported.
As a kid in this country, I have the constitutional right to pursue happiness. But without a Dream Act that allows my mom to stay and doesn't hurt my dad, Im not fulfilling my right. Thats why, instead of writing a letter to Santa this year, I decided to write a letter to Congress and ask them to act now. Last week, I even flew to Washington D.C. to deliver my letter directly to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, but he wouldnt open the door for me.
My moms DACA expires on December 22nd, the exact same day as the deadline that Congress has to make a decision. Please, Congress, put in a vote. Allow my childhood to continue instead of ending it by separating my family.
All I want for Christmas is Congress to pass a clean Dream Act. It would be like a miracle for many immigrant families like mine.

Yes it is.
THEN MOVE TO THEIR COUNTRY OF ORIGIN WITH THEM!
No problem. Merry Christmas..
Well Jasmine, there is a front door and a back door to get into this country.
If your folks had come through the front door, they could stay.
They didn’t, so they need to go back and try again....oh, and the only responsible thing to do is to take you with them.
Guaranteed the entire Lopez clan will be in Mexico visiting grandma during little Jasmine’s school break.
Guaranteed, they’ll all come back across the border and will bring a few extras back in using US cousins’ birth certificates.
Guaranteed, they’ll also bring back some nasty flu bug or worse.
Rinse and repeat. Happens every year.
All those sob stories and ICE is nowhere to be found.
and California is proof of what an excellent job Mexico's Man In The White House did for his jefe Vicente.
Take the risk; accept the consequence.
Where were these people when Elian Gonzales was dragged kicking and screaming by from his home and deported back to Cuba by Clinton? And some here on FR approved.....
How many would advocate letting criminals out of prison because their child wrote a sad letter, detailing how they would miss their parent at Christmas, due to the parent’s bad behavior and the consequences thereof? We’d all feel sorry for the child, but nobody would suggest the parent be let out of prison. Same exact scenario should apply here. It’s a sad child and a criminal parent. The sooner people recognize that, the better off we’ll be.
Politicians and liberal judges interpret the 14th their way. It was a Civil War amendment to protect escaping slaves and their children born in a free state.
Sure, this was written by an eleven year-old.
Give me a break.
So he is driving without a DL, no DL=no insurance, and you want me to feel bad? Just another reason you need to leave
>>It would be like a miracle for many immigrant families like mine.
And a growing nightmare for American families.
All I want for Christmas is for all the fraudulently documented foreigners to get the hell out of my country.
And take your anchor brats with you!
All I Want for Christmas is for all Illegal Aliens to be Deported
Odd, I have the opposite request.
You sir are forgetting butt babies. Crapped on a rock and hatched by the sun. Close to half of Congress qualify. I mean how could you explain McInsane otherwise? Just can not do it.
Jasmine, Jasmine, Jasmine There is nothing on earth keeping you from staying with your parents in their home country.
Do you love your own flesh and blood less than the country they invaded?
You can always reassert your US residency when you reach majority.
All I want for Christmas is a damn wall. Jasmine, your parents are the ones who put the coal in your stocking.
