The word "Nazi" keeps coming up, mostly from the Alt-Left but occasionally from the Alt-Right as the two verbally smear each other in hopes that something ugly will stick. The back-and-forth use of the term warrants clarification: which is right, or at least more right than the other? Is either really Nazi, or is this all just a nasty name game? And finally, does it matter?
Perhaps the best primer on Nazism remains Shirer's The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, through which one can conclude how, astonishingly, the American left has followed in the Third Reich's footsteps, dragging America in its wake. This is authoritatively put into perspective by Allen Bloom in his 1987 The Closing of the American Mind.
The similarities are striking. Today's intolerant national socialist left appears to be consciously patterning itself on the intolerant official Nazis of the pre-WWII era. Shirer notes that Nazi judges were virulently political, using the bench to reinforce Nazi policy and to fight anti-Nazi tendencies. We saw echoes of this in Judge James Robart and then another judge halting the president's perfectly legal deportation orders. Such judges do not justify their decisions in terms of law (as they should), but rather wax poetic about "other branches of government" and "social justice" and the like.

Reading Bloom’s book, “The Closing of the American Mind” was my eye-opening moment. The 60 minute interview in 92 of Bill Clinton and Hillary ended my voting Democrat for life, because of exceptional gut instincts (and I even lived in California), but this book gave me the ability “to know” “why?”. I had to reread it and study philosophy to fully understand the brilliant book, and I never, ever regret the time and energy it took.
“Perhaps the best primer on Nazism remains Shirer’s The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich”
—
Shirer’s work covers the nuts an bolts of the Nazi rise, but not the why - for that read “The Psychology of Mass Fascism” by Wilhelm Reich. This work seem a particularly apt read given today’s youth highly favoring socialism and seemingly, in particular, a form of Nazism.
Yesterday’s Communists and Nazi Socialists are today’s Socialist Left in more ways than one. For instance, common denominators of all three movements are in Genesis 3:5, Matthew 4:9, John 8:44, Romans 1:30, and Romans 1:25 and by extension Dan. 11:38 because they ‘worship’ the creative energy (evolution) that is their ‘father.’
My view is much simpler:
All forms of Totalitarianism are Evil!
Progressive
Socialist
Marxist
Fascist
Communist
Dictator
Islamist
Bureaucrap
All Evil!
There is not point in trying to debate the left as to definition of each form of Totalitarianism. They are all the same ultimately. Repression, Misery, Theft, Destruction.
I also recommend The True Believer by Eric Hoffer.
This is a very interesting article but there is one main difference between the nazis and the current crop of leftists. Nazis were fiercely nationalistic, today’s left is fiercely anti-nationalistic. The nazis loved the fatherland, the American left HATES America.
You have to hand it to Hitler- he's the only person in history to give Communists the moral high ground.
>>There is not point in trying to debate the left as to definition of each form of Totalitarianism. They are all the same ultimately. Repression, Misery, Theft, Destruction.<<
You left out Democrat.

Which difference is precisely why it’s much more accurate to describe leftists (Democrats) as communists.
I would say that the nazis were nationalistic in their socialism, yes, but wanted world domination. The antifas wants socialism to go global. A distinction without a difference really.
Yes.
On the one hand, I think it is important to always insist that the Nazis are leftwing collectivists. They were. They are. Stalin was also a nationalist and a socialist. His big rival was Trotsky who was not a nationalist.
But the people we see around us today are heirs to Trotsky and his Internationalist approach to socialism. That’s what Globalism is.
Collectivists do not recognize individual rights nor indeed the value of the individual. The Globalists simply extend that further and do not even recognize the value of sovereign nations.
Good article
Having lived in Germany for a long time now, I believe I have come to realize how/why the German people followed Hitler and the National Socialists into “the madness”.
I also have an “arms-length” perch to watch “the madness” in the US. Watching the 60’s generation grasp the levers of power in the media and university and public school has truly been a disaster for our republic,
I have also watched the rise of the “moral majority” and TEA Party and finally the election of DJT. His “in you face” response to the liberals and, especially the PC crowd is a breath of fresh air.
Now I am watching the USSC to see if we have some reversals of the unconstitutional ruling (no basis in the constitution nor common law) that will reverse the damage and, best of all, drive the loons on the left up a tree.
FReep regards to all.
The Left always tells us that the Nazis weren’t real socialists, which is exactly the point. Socialism is unsustainable. It’s just a shiny thing they use to recruit the useful idiots. They never intend to actually do it.
Excerpt that comments on Soros....
“One shakes one’s head that the éminence grise bankrolling much leftist activity in America is Jewish George Soros, who literally helped the original Nazis do their vile work against Jews. Soros pays thugs, rioters, and riot-organizers just as corporate sponsors paid Hitler’s Brown Shirts.”
Which side has the most in common with the intolerant totalitarian socialists in question? If our public schools taught history accurately instead of focusing on revisionist stories that fit the Ctrl-Left narrative, that would be an easy one for us all to answer.
That one and Simulacra and Simulation are very important modern day books to me.
And another interesting parallel between today’s leftists and yesterday’s Nazis is that “Caucasians are the new Jews!”
The Leftist/Collectivist consistently push for STATE-SANCTIONED DISCRIMINATION against Caucasians and they resent the success of Caucasians.
True, there are no Nazi gas chambers (yet), but the vitriol from the left against Caucasians, especially on college campuses - is scary.
The neo-racist American Left and Antifas are of the same cloth as the Nazis with a mix of every ingredient of the NAZI party, just in varying degrees.
Yes. There are many brilliant books out there that the average person will never ever attempt to read and understand, which is our problem today: No intellectual stimulation at all for most people now days.
It is too hard to exercise the Mind which is needed for a life well-lived, just as much or more so than the physical body needs exercise to function normally. Excellence takes tremendous amount of work and time. People are drowning in meaningless “information” which is time consuming and removes one from living authentically, who just stare at screens and absorb the proper programming and dopamine for their irrational lives.
