Hi, Well it is then end of the year (sort of) just shy a few weeks. I got my routes now comes the bargaining (senior pilots always get first choice but sometimes they want a route that’s already bid).

DUH. Hard to believe that the end of the year IS here. LOL! Keeping my fingers crossed that you get some of the routes you want through the bargaining process. :)

Sorry about the start of this “path”. No matter how long or short, you have the “satisfaction” of knowing that you did everything you could to ease the way. No one can do more.

Prayers of peace for Dulcie and those who love her. Lots of sleeping seems to be a defense against a life that is not enjoyable anymore. My Mom always wanted to know, “Am I still here?”. And seeing her in pain was hard.

Just follow Dulcie’s lead. And sometimes just holding her hand is such a comfort. I’m really glad you were able to get Home Hospice so quickly.

ODAAT! ((HUGS))

This is a very hard thing and I admire you so much because you had a much slower process to the same end as we have. And your mom suffered so much, not only physically but the fear from all her hallucinations. It breaks your heart!

I keep thinking...why did she go down hill so fast. Could I have done something differently. But all the professionals that we talk to say that we’ve done all the right things. How come it seems to be wrong.

Thanks for the prayers of peace. I did tell her tonight that it was all right to go, but I don’t know if she heard me. She’s been so out of it today. We were awfully lucky that they came by to set her up not 2 hours after we told Nurses Unlimited that we thought it was what she needed. There are a lot of good, compassionate people here!

I dread the morning...afraid of what we will find when we go in to greet her.

((((hugs)))) I think now it’s one hour at a time.

One thing that helped with my Mom....letting her know she was in charge of her ship. Keep in mind that she may "have had enough". We talked a lot about any kind of treatment. Her answer was always, NO! I want to be with "my husband". And she said 92 is quite enough years, especially since I can't do any of the things I want to do.

Who can argue with that? And Dulcie knows all the help you've been to her, even if she can't tell you. Hold her hand, tell her you love her...she will hear.

Do the hospice folks have her on extra pain meds? I dread the morning...afraid of what we will find when we go in to greet her.

And if she goes Home in the night you know she will be in a safe place, pain free, and with lots of friends; and she will be at peace. And she knows how well you took care of her.

Dulcie has a DNR, so we know she doesn’t want extraordinary measures taken. They have given us morphine drops and Lorazepam. We haven’t had to give them to her since early yesterday afternoon. She is in total sleep mode, no response, no eyes openinf. Her arms are very limp and cool.

She is still with us at this time. She reacted a bit when i put water on her tongue and lips with the little sponges on a stick that they provided us. Slow, shallow breathing. I was so relieved. I want her to be at peace, but we also don’t want her to leave us. Selfish, I know.

We had morphine as well. You can only try to reach the pain, even tho you don’t know from where it is coming. We doubled it immediately.

I so wish we could have gotten hospice weeks before she passed, but you need a doctor to refer you, and they wanted to see her. Not happening.

You have a wonderful hospice option and a visiting nurse is invaluable. Suzye, for us, was a saint with her experience.

In the last couple weeks my Mom would sleep for three days and wake up saying she was hungry.

I’m glad Dulcie has her DNR in place. As hard as it is to let go, I think she is letting you know she is ready. And she knows you are there and that she is loved.

Minute-to-minute....prayers of peace for all of you. ((HUGS))

Thank you for your reassurances and for being able to let me know what’s happening. You were so lucky to have Suzye. She was able to help ease your anxiety like you are helping me. (((hugs)))

She has begun gurgling, and though we have atrophine for the end rattles, the nurse said as long as she is clearing her throat, she’s not ready for that. I can’t tell, but hubby says she is still clearing her throat.

Minute by minute indeed. And each minute seems like and hour.
