Despite calls from his Republican and Democratic colleagues alike to step down after allegations of sexual misconduct, Sen. Al Franken is reportedly refusing to go anywhere.
When his hometown paper The Star Tribune asked over the weekend whether he planned to resign, a spokesperson for the Minnesota Democrat said, no.
He is spending time with his family in Washington, D.C., and will be through the Thanksgiving holiday, the staffer told the paper by text, and hes doing a lot of reflecting.
Sports broadcaster Leeann Tweeden accused Franken of forcibly kissing and groping her without her consent. She even tweeted a photo of the groping incident from a 2006 USO tour in Afghanistan. The then-comedian appeared grabbing her breasts over her flak vest while she was sleeping on a military aircraft.
Ive decided its time to tell my story. #MeToohttps://t.co/TqTgfvzkZg Leeann Tweeden (@LeeannTweeden) November 16, 2017
She also said while they were practicing a sketch he kissed her despite her protesting.
Franken himself and his Senate colleagues have recommended a Senate Ethics Committee investigation of his behavior.
I understand why we need to listen to and believe womens experiences, Franken said in a statement. I am asking that an ethics investigation be undertaken, and I will gladly cooperate.
Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Republican Sen. Tim Scott agreed an ethics investigation should begin.
We certainly should start the process, Scott said. This is absolutely the right starting point. All sexual harassment is inexcusable. And everyone should be punished at the same level.
“Ted Kennedy without the dead girl.”
DAYUM! That’s downright quotable.
Anyone who thought this douche was going to resign doesn’t understand.... you could have undoctored video of him murdering a small boy and raping the corpse and he wouldn’t resign.
All he did was call for an ethics investigation to stall and buy time, hoping folks will be distracted by something else by the time it happens
A democRAT doing the right thing? Don’t be daft!
I like the way you think.
Anybody can accuse anybody of anything. And, if someone is in the public spotlight, it's not improbable that more than one person just might want to take that person out.
Legitimate harassment that can be proven (in a court of law) is a different matter.
Just to keep the focus on, the Republicans need to "accidentally" refer to him on CSPAN from the floor of the Senate as:
Senator FRANKENGROPEN.
(and get gavelled down)
Minnesotans: Had enough of your lefties in office? Enough refugee & illegals issues? Enough government intrusion in all you do? Ready for some rugged individualusm again? Youve strayed far from that little house on your prairie.
Good line. Al just had ballots in his car.
Get Trump to tweet that.
Al Franken badgering someone in a meeting.
Victim’s reply: So Al do you still dream of raping Lesley Stahl? Or Rob Reiner?
Or any of the many women you harassed or assaulted?
Franken or Ellison? Doesn’t matter. Whoever it is will vote lock-step with the Dem party line. Actually, it might be better for conservatives if Ellison were there, as Ellison is more vocal with his wacko positions (driving more voters away from the Dems).
As for Franken resigning/not-resigning, the GOP better be careful this isn’t a trap to get them to say Moore will withdrawal if Franken resigns. If that happens, the Dems get another leftist to replace Franken and the Alabama special election likely goes to the Dem. That’s a net pickup of 1 seat for the Dems.
PLUS - the 2 situations are night-and-day.
Franken has multiple accusers, with contemporaneous accounts by multiple “victims” and witnesses, AND a photograph.
Moore’s are 30+ year-old unproven, uncorroborated allegations, where NONE of it was brought up in all his years of public life and elections. This INCLUDES very public and very contentious in-state fights where he was twice elected and twice removed from state supreme court (mostly due to his position on the 10 Commandments). If the accusers are telling the truth now, why were they silent for so long? Wouldn’t they have come forth during these other high-profile struggles? Why does it come up only when the WaPo puts 3+ reporters on it? Why does it come up only when Gloria Allred is hired?
I don’t know if Moore is guilty or innocent of what’s alleged - I just know it reeks of Democrat dirty deeds.
Ah, as Maxwell Smart would say, “The old ‘spending more time with family and reflecting’ gambit...”
#27 There is way more then 10 billion mosquitos in Minnesoda.
Then there are the gnats and no see ems.
Just imagine if a Republican did what he did.
He did not allow himself to be Alinsky-ed.
Neither has Moore.
Perhaps conservatives can learn something here.
Do not resign.
Do not back down.
>Clinton PERJURED himself. He also obstructed justice. He SHOULD have resigned.
Exactly: Clinton committed “High Crimes and Misdemeanor” while in office. Should have been AMF.
Being an AH is not a crime, so Franken, (and about 30 others,) get to stay.
re: An indefensible position.
But Franken thinks he needs no defense.
“Case in point, Richard Nixon, who resigned rather than have the country go through a horribly divisive impeachment process.”
Even though he was innocent of any impeachable offense.
“There is way more then 10 billion mosquitos in Minnesoda.
Then there are the gnats and no see ems.”
And the most annoying of all the DFL.
The 10 billion mosquitos are just from one small lake of the 10,000 lakes.
The Boundary Waters are INSANE with mosquitos.
