The Earths magnetic field, generated some 3,000km below our feet in the liquid iron core, threads through the whole planet and far into space protecting life and satellites from harmful radiation from the sun. But this shielding effect is far from constant, as the field strength varies significantly in both space and time.
Over the last century, the field strength has changed relatively slowly: the biggest change is a 10% fall in the southern Atlantic, which is still a large enough effect to cause electronic problems for satellites that have passed through the region. However, new observations and modelling suggest that a much greater change strangely occurred around 1000BC in a much smaller region.

Unexpectedly high field strengths around 1000BC have also been uncovered in Turkey, China and Georgia from a variety of sources. Remarkably, the field strength in India, Egypt and Cyprus around the same time was completely normal, indicating that the spike was perhaps only 2,000km wide. Such a rapid change over such a small area marks out the geomagnetic spike as one of the most extreme variations of Earths magnetic field ever recorded.

- The LORD
Job 38:4
Interesting.
Noahs flood.
3,000 years ago there were no electronics to be affected by the spike, so mankind took zero notice. Today we (those in the affected area) would be saying “What the hell was THAT?”
If the field were disrupted, could (in effect) fire and sulfur rain down from heaven and destroy a couple of sinful cities in the Dead Sea area?
Look for iron meteors or volcanoes.
Something caused iron and other metals to move around relatively quickly.
As far as not noticing it, perhaps the former residents of Santorini, Crete or Cypress might have a word to say about it.
Landing lights.
I’m not sure the flood had anything to do with it but, the earths magnetic field is largely generated from the earth passing through the magnetic field of the sun. When there are changes in the sun then some of those changes could easily affect the earth’s magnetic field. When there is a CME that is targeted at the earth I could see where it would be possible to have a short term effect but how a long term effect could be produced in a small area is certainly confusing.
The magnetosphere protects the planet from solar radiation. Ever feel like you were frying under intense sunlight? You were. (see - sunburn) So. a localized weakening would probably lead to radiation poisoning and eventual death.
///”Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.” The Lord, in Job 38:4.///
Then Job eventually said: “I have spoken once, then twice without knowledge.” “I shall speak no more.”
I wish the leftist climate worriers would do the same!
I haven't heard that explanation before.
According to Physics.org: "Our planet's magnetic field is believed to be generated deep down in the Earth's core. ... The Coriolis force, resulting from the Earth's spin, also causes swirling whirlpools. This flow of liquid iron generates electric currents, which in turn produce magnetic fields."
How would a flood cause a localized spike in earth’s magnetic field?
Ima call BS on this “report”.
Some of us believe that the Flood was a cataclysm of massive proportions, and involved a lot more than rain.

I hate to say that Physics.org is wrong, but if you quoted them completely then they are. Magnetism is not created by moving iron except in a magnetic field. We are within the suns magnetic field. When the earth spins the iron spins with it and is also is moving through the suns magnetic field. Similar to the way a transformer works another field is created around the spinning earth. It is somewhat more complicated than that because not only is the earth spinning, the molten iron is also moving inside the earth independently of the rotation, but there is another force to contend with and that is the orbiting earth moving through the Sun’s magnetic field. All those motions produce magnetic fields. Without the Sun’s fields though there would be little if any field produced by earth’s movement. The molten iron has very little permeability, that is in the absence of an external magnetic field the magnetism in the iron would quickly die away.
The flow of iron circulating in the earth is very, very slow, but the rotation of the earth at the equator is about 1000 miles per hour and the earth’s movement through the orbit is much faster than that. You can see how then that these huge forces can generate such large magnetic fields.
There are many other considerations but most are pretty minor.
What about the time that God lengthened the day for Joshua to win the battle against the Amorites? Time estimated at 1300 BC. If the sun and moon stood still, wouldn’t the magnetic field be stronger?

Just wondering.
Hey, wait a minute.
Is this Common Core science?
And you believe it happened 1000BC? LOL
That was the exact scriptural event I was thinking of when reading the story.
