The fears escalated for Harpreet Singh Kohli under the glow of a TV screen last year, when his daughter broke down at the sight of the words strung across the screen: TRUMP WINS 2016 ELECTION.

“Most H1-B visa are IT people”
This has hurt my family members who are IT people. Has driven down salaries and dried up opportunities. Maybe as you say, not in as big of numbers, but Americans are not getting the employment they need and deserve.
I agree with H-1b in principal, but the way its being used to lay off americans for the sake of cheap labor is not the way it is to be used, thus why it need a reform or it needs to go.
What field do you recruit for, and what geographic area?
“They ARE good neighbors, very quiet, and they all own their units-”
Their curry stinks, and they are anti-social. They want to transplant their culture into our country, not assimilate.
Good riddance.
Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries.
Just kidding, but your comment brought back old memories. H1B sucks, but I dont blame the immigrant. Congress and businesses are the real criminals. Keep voting Uniparty!
“I dont blame the immigrant.”
Neither do I. In their position, I’d be doing the same thing.
Would just really prefer they assimilate. Just as my ancestors did.
Why are we even calling them ‘immigrants?’ The H1B is a temporary visa not an immigrant visa.
The problem with IT workers is that there is a huge surplus of available IT workers in the world. Literally tens of millions of IT workers are looking for jobs.
Why there is such a surplus? Training time!
It takes 7 years to graduate from law school. Then one has to pass the bar exam. My daughter recently finished all that, costing the family $150 in tuition fees alone.
It takes 12 years to become a practicing doctor, including required internship.
It took me 2 degrees (7 years) and 5 years of working in the industry to become a skilled machine design engineer.
IT workers require much less time in training.
My advice to all your relatives is to seek a different field where cheap competition is scarce. What skills I had achieved in my line of work, there was virtually no competition. My employer gave me a big raise everytime I found a better offer.
If these H1-B visa IT workers are stopped, the companies will simply outsource the work. Which eliminates most of the peripheral jobs in the company, such as financial people, building maintenance, real-estate taxes, lower sales by local utilities, etc.
The sponsor usually can get them a green card.
Not everyone can develop software and keep up with the daily changes. It requires an IQ in the 20th percentile at least. Your attempt to trivialize on of the hardest and necessary fields of endeavor is duly noted.
Agreed 100% on the assimilation aspect. That is what I did. Married a US born spouse, became skilled in golf, learned intricacies of American sports, American football being my favorite, learned to speak fluent English, and keep interest in everything American, including politics. Arrived at age 20, worked to acquire master’s degree at a large American university, and still here after 50+ years.
I tell anyone who disparages America that they should go back to their home country if it is better than here.
So explain why the employers are eager to hire foreign workers on H1-B visa, if they can not perform the tasks?
Like I said there are tens of millions of IT workers in the world walking the streets, and software outfits in other countries are doing very well without your help.
I didn't say that Mr. Naturalized. Whether or not they can do the work is irrelevant to the discussion. The purpose of these scab visas is to lower the prevailing wages of all in the USA doing this type of work.
Green card? We admit ONE MILLION legal immigrants with green cards EVERY YEAR. Most are not IT workers. Actually, most are low skills, low wealth people sponsored by a relative on green card himself/herself.
I am less worried about 50,000 H1-B visa temporary workers who actually have jobs and pay taxes, than the ONE MILLION legal immigrants admitted every year, without any test of skills or wealth. I personally know dozens and dozens of such green card holders who arrived as seniors, and are receiving social security checks without having paid a dime in taxes.
Because you are self centered selfish person you are not "worried" about it. It doesn't affect you or your precious lawyer daughter directly (the one that you spent 150K on) so it just isn't big deal TOO YOU.
Your posts are I ME I ME I ME, why a few MYs in there.
So...you believe in ARTIFICIALLY keeping wages high in IT field? What happened to free market philosophy?
Like I said in previous post, fields which require many years of education and training, such as lawyers, doctors, scientists, are being paid handsomely, and do not face competition from cheap foreign workers on the same scale as IT workers.
No, we are keeping wages at there natural level set by supply and demand for Americans. What we need to do is target that little lawyer daughter of yours. We need a 500,000 lawyer H-1B visa. If she became unemployed as a result I would be so happy! I would to think you threw away $150K! NOTHING would make me happier!
Flooding the country with foreigners is not in the interests of the citizens.
...
But it is in the interest of crooked politicians and corporations.
