JFK once said, victory has a hundred fathers; defeat is an orphan. But in the wake of Ed Gillespies stunning, landslide loss in the Virginia governors race, it looks like defeat has at least two fathers.
On todays Morning Joe, Willie Geist reported:
The Gillespie campaign was whispering to reporters that this vote was a repudiation of President Trump.
Trump, in turn, laid the blame at the feet of Gillespie, tweeting he did not embrace me.
What are Republicans and conservative to make of a very bad Tuesday night? Theres good news and bad news.

He is a never Trumper...it isnt Trump being put down it is the damned establishment RINOs...and it will continue.
Not a repudiation of Trump. It was a Vote Of Confidence of Trump. Politicians who tried to thwart PDJT will continue to suffer losses. I
I’m so glad we have become energized and bold and are standing strong, and fighting, against the America haters. We’ve been passive doormats for decades and we’ve had enough.
Agree. You speak about the Democrats as ‘they’ correctly — a common minded group, successfully casting off their old guard, and aiming to win and control the future. Republicans/conservatives are not so. Conservatives and patriots and Christians and heteros absolutely need a new party.
Corey Stewart had a better chance the Ed the RINO.
His embarrassing loss was the voters saying, “Get with Trump or get gone!”
Here’s an example of the sterling campaign Ed ran, straight from my Twitter timeline. In fact, it’s the only Twitter ad I saw from Gillespie until election day:
“Sea level change is important to Virginians. As governor, I will act.”
Yep, nothing excites the GOP base like embracing the lie that is man-made global warming. Yet, that’s the kind of RINO strategy that Gillespie embraced. Also worth noting that the GOP ground game sucked. “Asleep at the wheel for the past year,” is how my county chairman described it last night.
Real question now is who comes in and picks up the pieces? Is this going to be Corey Stewart’s party, or will the GOP-E maintain control by turning to one of the Republican Congressmen, many of whom are RINOs.
One final thought: it will be difficult, but the GOP will have an opportunity to reclaim the governorship in 2021. There’s going to be a bloodbath in the primary between Justin Fairfax, the far-left radical who was elected lieutenant governor, and Mark Herring, the attorney general who won a second term last night. If they don’t broker some kind of deal to put one at the top of the ticket while the other guy “waits his turn,” there will be a bruising primary and many supporters of the losing candidate won’t show up at the polls in November.
Of course, that presumes the Virginia GOP can get its act together and field a conservative candidate who can generate a massive turnout in red precincts and get enough votes in NOVA to avoid being swamped in a statewide race. At this point, I wouldn’t put any money on that happening. The state party has been engaged in a civil war since 2013, and I don’t see anyone on the horizon (yet) who can bring the factions together.
That’s what I think. A huge government employee population, add to that I hear a growing Muslim and Hispanic, and they vote democrat. Not for anything but their personal gain.
Someething tells me that Gillespie would be saying this win or lose. Very Rovian.
translation: I tanked this race so my friends could say voters repudiated Trump.
Yes. Trump's party was not running yesterday. The swamp has enveloped both established political parties and it will take time for the Trump supporter to merge into a new party. Who expected a Republican to win in NYC, Virginia and NJ yesterday? I certainly didn't. Virginia has been a blue state for a while now due to the fact that a majority of Washington D.C. Swamp dwellers live there and work hard for the leftist bureaucracy. The entire East Coast down to the Carolina's are lost to an ideology which looks a lot like Communism. Nearly all of them hate Christian values because those delay the demise of the US as we have known it. Their minions in the MSM are saying all manner of ugly things about the faith Christians have in prayer in the wake of the TX shooting. Well, I would refer them to the long history of Christian persecution which still has not removed Jesus and His story from the annals of history. In fact, it would seem that Christian persecution has the effect of spreading it far and wide as nothing else can. My Jesus is alive and well and has a plan. All of us are on a journey here and what happens to us on this journey has a purpose whether or not it is approved of by the US Government elite and their media. It is always puzzling as to why Atheist's just cannot stand to think that others also have the freedom to choose their own spiritual belief. The mocking now going on is just despicable. As for those elections yesterday. Forget them. They have their reward.
Indeed. If Gillespie had half a brain, he’d blame Russia for meddling in the VA election and demand a special prosecutor to investigate the Democrats.

Well, yes. If the northern Virginia suburbs repudiated Trump in November 2016 so that they wouldn't lose their gov't jobs, they certainly weren't going to vote Republican now that they could actually lose their jobs.
That Gillespie ran away from Trump probably hurt him in the western part of the state. Just being a Republican hurt him in the northeastern part. It was a difficult needle to thread. (Probably an impossible one, unless his opponent was arrested.)
And we appreciate you Mark - your post is the first one I read every morning out here on the Left Coast.
Nowhere is this more evident than in New Jersey, a heavily Democratic state where Chris Christie won TWICE simply because he energized voters who loved an outspoken candidate who didn't pull any punches.
He was "Donald Trump" before Donald Trump came along.
His lieutenant governor Kim Guadagno was about as uninspiring a candidate as you will ever see. She said all the right things, but she lost badly.
I would doubt any conservatives lost last night; the swamp spoke. The swamp wants their goodies at our expense. Rinos lose; anywhere a conservative runs on the anti-swamp agenda, they win. NJ and VA is swampy...walled castles in VA, all paid for at our expense.
Many thanks, Inspectorette!
Gillespie couldn’t win the Senate seat in Virginia in 2014 Virginias don’t like Gillespie
Gillespie...Political equivalent of a Manchurian Candidate?
I’ll take my chances.
I get far more out of his posts than I do yours.
