First openly transgender state legislator elected in Virginia

Virginia House of Delegates candidate Danica Roem (D) has defeated longtime Del. Robert Marshall (R), becoming Virginia's first openly transgender elected official and one of just few in the nation, according to The Washington Post.

"Danica will bring a reporter’s eye to Richmond, and we eagerly anticipate her results-oriented approach to deliver for her constituents in the 13th," Virginia House Democratic Caucus Leader David J. Toscano and Caucus Chair Charniele Herring said in a statement.

"As a journalist, Danica Roem has covered the issues critical to Virginians and listened to a wide range of perspectives. During her campaign, Danica expanded this approach by listening to area residents’ concerns and making them integral to her own policy platform," they added.

LGBTQ advocates hailed the victory on Tuesday evening, with the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) calling it "a clear warning to anti-equality lawmakers across the country."

“HRC was proud to mobilize voters to support Danica Roem’s trailblazing candidacy, and we look forward to working with her to help continue moving equality forward in Virginia," HRC president Chad Griffin said in a statement.

Marshall thanked his supporters in a statement posted to Facebook.

"For 26 years I've been proud to fight for you, and fight for our future. Though we all wish tonight would have turned out differently, I am deeply grateful for your support and effort over the years," he said. "I'm committed to continue the fight for you, but in a different role going forward."

Not surprised anything within 100 miles of D.C. is dem., including the fish and crustaceans in the Chesapeake Bay.

It’s ONE four year term, term limited by law. Hopefully the GOP in VA can come up with a solid MAGA candidate in 4 years. And yes, Trump will be re-elected!

when all is said and done, he outspent the Republican by huge margins. He had a lot of outside money from the gay/tranny orgs pouring into this race like it was endless. we were throwing out two or three mailers a day from that guy since August and we didn’t see anything from Marshall until late October.
It was bought and paid for by Soros.

Seriously. Who is stupid enough to vote for someone suffering from so much mental illness? There is no excuse or argument for voting for someone like this, anyone who did should lose the ability to vote in future elections.

And the freak show formerly known as the American Experiment continues to unravel. Alexis de Tocqueville is rolling in his grave.

My good buddy of 40+ years lives in Prince William county. He's been there for about 32 years, got married, bought a house that's paid for. A couple years ago he lost her to complications from diabetes. It used to be a nice, fairly rural area back in the day - I lived in NoVA during my first marriage, and we would go canoeing and bass fishing at places like the Shenandoah River, and not be bothered. We'd find fishing holes on old, abandoned farms stocked with big ol' ditch pigs. The owners didn't care, as long as we respected the land.

It's all gone now. Developers have bought up all the rural farms and land parcels, leveled them, denuded them of forest, and put up one cookie-cutter McMansion community after another. He told me a couple of months ago that so much of the liberal rabble has turned P.W. county into a bedroom community for the pigs at the Big Government trough, he's just biding his time waiting for his late wife's employer to pay out her retirement pension to him as primary beneficiary so he can sell the house and get out of the state, period. He's looking at a lake house on the SC side of Lake Hartwell, about three hours from me. Nice little cottage style number with a boat house on the shore for his 18' Tracker. I told him I'd come help him pack if he's serious about it. The hell with Virginia. This wasn't a Dem win, it was maintaining the new status quo. Nobody speaks English, cares to assimilate, or can even figure out their gender there anymore. It's turned into another Montgomery County (I lived there, too). It's a grimy, neon-lighted armpit like a scene out of Blade Runner. And that was my recollection of it from twenty years ago, when I met my current wife and bolted for Alabama. Imagine the transformation over two more decades. The throbbing urban disease from Arlington and Fairfax counties oozed out 66 West like a lanced pustule and infected PW. *smh* I can't foresee state boundaries staying intact as currently drawn in this new climate. And once that dam breaks, I'm envisioning a more garrison mentality from people to protect the culture and values they have left.

“The new VA doesn’t want to vote for RINO retreads. A good sign.”

So do they think that will give them a shield from the Democrats that waltz into office? Do they think the Dems are going to be “afraid” to not get on their bad side?
