Robert Mueller is on an early winning streak.
Stacked with some of the countrys premier prosecutors, the special counsel has beaten back a pair of preliminary attempts to block his subpoena power and limit who he can question as a potential witness. In July, Muellers team also managed to win approval to execute a no-knock search warrantunusual in a white-collar case.
But as the criminal case against former Donald Trump campaign officials Paul Manafort and Rick Gates speeds toward a possible spring 2018 trial, Muellers team is bracing for an array of challenges to its authority.
The battle lines are already taking shape.

Politico....they follow people around on Facebook and tell them something they posted “may Not be true” (happened to one of my postings recently.)
How about the Constitution? Is the Constitution a valid challenge to Mueller? Do we not live in a Constitutional Republic that the Left has been trying to destroy for about 125 years? So yes, WE THE PEOPLE should ALWAYS be questioning and challenging and, if appropriate negating and overturning federal acts in the light of the Constitution.
It is our DUTY to ALWAYS question federal acts, and if NOT authorized by the Constitution, the acts should be not only questioned and challenged but stopped. So here, where does the Constitution authorize Mueller kind of activity?
The present special prosecutor blatantly states his political motive to get the president. How does that differ from a political conspiracy to overthrow a duly elected president?
It is shameful and the whole world watches.
Turn the tables. Ask Ken Starr.
The government, and Mr. Mueller himself, may have trouble during discovery. The special counsel’s authority was to investigate foreign involvement in the 2016 election. I think the FBI has election laundry they don’t want aired, and the Ukrainian political aspect was on his watch at FBI.
For starters, he was appointed in violation of the law for special counsels, which requires evidence of a crime. There was no crime they were hired to investigate, it was a national security investigation.
Rosenstein made it open ended enough to let Mueller go anywhere he wants with the investigation.
Politico had to get “criminal’ and Trump in the same sentence.
Absolutely. Not to mention, his uncapped budget means Mueller would require approval for his appointment from the full Senate. Neither of these issues is mentioned in the article, of course.
He and his team’s objectivity is most definitely in question. Lots of skeletons.
“Stacked with some of the countrys premier prosecutors . . ..”
Bull. They are political hacks and federal bullies. The feds win cases that are dead simple with lots of evidence that any prosecutor could win, OR, they use all the coercive power at their disposal to bludgeon a defendant (victim) into taking a plea deal. The plea deal is usually to a lessor charge ancillary to the original investigation.
We are seeing the feds in action here.
Agreed, but look beyond that nuance at the average Joe who thinks Mueller is on the Russian/election meme. Manafort has a very good case, and discovery favors his side.
Mueller had a choice. He could have kept the Grand Jury in northern VA, which is racially and politically diverse to hear and decide the case. The trial juries have the same makeup. Any decision to remove a POTUS, made by this diverse group, would have some legitimacy: a true jury of your peers.
But he chose to move the proceedings to DC. In DC, the Grand Jury and trial jury will reflect the community: all Black and all Democrat. His team, who will decide whom to prosecute, are all Democrat. The judge is a Democrat.
In Trump’s case, his fate will be decided by Democrats. No hint of any cross section of America.
How well will America accept their judgement? Not well from me.
Can we now have a special investigator check into his role in the democrat Uranium collusion with Russia?
Ken Starr’s authority was challenged on a daily basis, including the so-called “media”.
We need a special prosecutor to look into Mueller’s collusion with Russia.
