Washington (CNN) A federal grand jury in Washington, DC, on Friday approved the first charges in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to sources briefed on the matter. The charges are still sealed under orders from a federal judge.
Plans were prepared Friday for anyone charged to be taken into custody as soon as Monday, the sources said.
It is unclear what the charges are. A spokesman for the special counsel's office declined to comment.
Mueller was appointed in May to lead the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Under the regulations governing special counsel investigations, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who has oversight over the Russia investigation, would have been made aware of any charges before they were taken before the grand jury for approval, according to people familiar with the matter.
On Friday, top lawyers who are helping to lead the Mueller probe, including veteran prosecutor Andrew Weissmann, were seen entering the court room at the DC federal court where the grand jury meets to hear testimony in the Russia investigation.
Reporters present saw a flurry of activity at the grand jury room, but officials made no announcements.

Mueller is authorized to investigate "any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation," according to Rosenstein's order.
The special counsel's investigation has focused on potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, as well as obstruction of justice by the President, who might have tried to impede the investigation.
CNN reported that investigators are scrutinizing Trump and his associates' financial ties to Russia. Mueller's team has also examined foreign lobbying conducted by former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and others. His team has issued subpoenas for documents and testimony to a handful of figures...

Mueller and Rosenstein should be fired for giving their approval. I see a firing coming not so far in the future for those two.
And indictment here is a desperate move.
Podesta
Poop. Read it fast and in my fantasy world my brain jumped to Mueller was being investigated.
My guess, Manafort will be the scapegoat. Repub tied to Trump with Russian ties. Perfect goat.
If it is a Trump “associate” can we decide that NO... Muller is NOT working with/for Trump??
If it involved Trump it would have been leaked.
deflection from killery and the uranium and Muller and the rest of the crooks involved.
Rush was on-point today during the 45 or so minutes I listened during my commute, talking about how they just didn't expect to lose and be out of power.
Uranium One and the Dossier were messing up the narrative so they had to act quickly.
The traitor will charge Trump for some made up minor BS t try to get Uranium One off the front pages which has Zero and Hitlery in the crosshairs.
What a joke of an investigation.
I doubt it will be anyone we think it should be.
Fluck him....
That’s not real. Can’t be.
Purely coincidence that it comes just days after the Clinton/DNC dossier revelation.
Just a question about the mandate. How is it possible to have a mandate to investigate all matters arising from the investigation ? That is absurd.
Plans were prepared Friday for anyone charged to be taken into custody as soon as Monday, the sources said.
Taken into Custody?
Since When does that happen?
Its CNN...gonna wait for a real news source to verify this story.
