BREAKING: FIRST CHARGES FILED IN MUELLER INVESTIGATION (CNN)
CNN ^ | 27 Oct 17 | Pamela Brown, Evan Perez and Shimon Prokupecz

Posted on 10/27/2017 5:47:01 PM PDT by Drew68

Washington (CNN) — A federal grand jury in Washington, DC, on Friday approved the first charges in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to sources briefed on the matter. The charges are still sealed under orders from a federal judge.

Plans were prepared Friday for anyone charged to be taken into custody as soon as Monday, the sources said.

It is unclear what the charges are. A spokesman for the special counsel's office declined to comment.

Mueller was appointed in May to lead the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Under the regulations governing special counsel investigations, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who has oversight over the Russia investigation, would have been made aware of any charges before they were taken before the grand jury for approval, according to people familiar with the matter.

On Friday, top lawyers who are helping to lead the Mueller probe, including veteran prosecutor Andrew Weissmann, were seen entering the court room at the DC federal court where the grand jury meets to hear testimony in the Russia investigation.

Reporters present saw a flurry of activity at the grand jury room, but officials made no announcements.

Mueller is authorized to investigate "any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation," according to Rosenstein's order.

The special counsel's investigation has focused on potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, as well as obstruction of justice by the President, who might have tried to impede the investigation.

CNN reported that investigators are scrutinizing Trump and his associates' financial ties to Russia. Mueller's team has also examined foreign lobbying conducted by former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and others. His team has issued subpoenas for documents and testimony to a handful of figures...

Anyone remember the name of the DC lawyer here who tells what the gossip is in the halls of the power brokers. Rocket docket resignation should be causing some talk.

Imagine they actually put Manafort or Flynn on trial. I mean his attorney is going to have a target rich environment for depositions etc. Various pieces of information during testimony. We would have many things that we have thought... confirmed before it was done. And in the end Trump would give him a pardon.

I remember thinking at the time that it was very convenient with the Uranium One thing heating up that they were out of the country. Did they ever come back?

Mrs. Clinton was in NYC last night and received the "Wonder Woman Award"...I kid you not.

Huh? No... it’s an old joke from the Bill Clinton era about how everything happens when he’s not doing his show so he can’t comment on it. Clinton always timed releases for Friday after 3 pm.

Please understand.

This “News” that Mueller has filed “Criminal” charges is a TACTIC by Mueller.

Mueller is a Master of legal tactics.

He is trying to assert his position as “Special Counsel/Prosecutor” over ALL of these investigations by being first to file charges.

It will “Lock up” all other investigations.

Mark my words.

This is what is happening.

How would you indict Manafort but not Podesta when Manafort worked for Podesta’s firm?

I believe lots of FReepers will be surprised next week. I believe this has been planned for a long time and it is going to go our way. I’m betting either Comey or Podesta will be the first indicted. The indictment will send a shockwave through D.C. The libs will finally realize their coverup failed and that Trump co-opted Mueller.

Since CNN knows about the charges, I suspect CNN also knows the name. They would report it if it was someone close to President Trump. It will be interesting to see if it leaks over the weekend.

Of course I could be totally wrong.

“Interesting coincidence out of rocket docket. Boente resigning”

From AP:

“U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Dana Boente is resigning from his post but plans to stay on until a successor is in place.

Boente, a career prosecutor who has served as acting U.S. attorney general, announced his plans Friday in an email to staff. His spokesman, Joshua Steuve, said the email does not spell out a reason for the 63-year-old’s departure.

Boente briefly served in the top spot at the Justice Department earlier this year after President Donald Trump fired Sally Yates in a dispute over the administration’s proposed travel ban.

Boente is also serving as acting assistant attorney general for national security, and will vacate that post once his successor is confirmed by the Senate.

Boente was appointed to the Virginia post by the Obama administration.”

Look, reality is ...

If we don’t do something...

who will?

My God, I feel as if all is lost between the propaganda and the old leftest elites... they’ve won.

They’ve freaking won without so much as a challenge. Our protests ignored, our 501 applications denied, our legal efforts meaningless...and yet...taking Washington DC under President Trump, back from the mafia/mob/racist/DNC is a crime?

I am so done with what I see happening? Republicans have the power to stop this and join in cleaning up DC...hard work yes...yes, very hard work, dangerous work....

We’ve won...and yet our hands are still bound.

I could see Manafort being in trouble here. When I saw the story about the raid on his house I immediately suspected something interesting:

1. The Mueller team had all kinds of evidence against him that had been gathered through the FISA surveillance last year.

2. The FISA warrant is for intelligence gathering and probably cannot be used for criminal prosecution because of the shadowy nature of the process to secure the warrant for surveillance. Any evidence gathered this way would likely be considered inadmissible in court.

3. Therefore, the Mueller team needed to find other evidence through "legitimate" means that reinforced what was obtained through the FISA surveillance but would actually be admissible in court.

I cant come to the conclusion since he had no plans to resign a few days ago. his work being done on one case doesnt mean its time to resign at 63

However..it is clear that it is possible he was lying a few days ago..knew he would resign..but didnt want to telegraph it yet

Lots if speculation but no clear answers

So basically what does that mean..that no charges will be filed on Monday..that Mueller wants to show everyone he is “Impartial” by filing charges against Manafort AND the Podesta brothers to show that hes an impartial guy and a straight shooter?

“It’s not odd, it stinks to high heaven. Even CNN is commenting how unusual the leak is and that Mueller will be criticized.”

Mueller is trying to justify this investigation. These charges are his way of doing it. He probably did not want to file the charges just yet but the heat for his own wrong doing is increasing.
