A restrained and detailed account of a colonel escorting a deceased marine pfc home for burial. It encapsulates the message the general was trying to convey about this sacred time, as well as the respect for other emblems of the marine uniform and the high regard for the flag.
I'd never seen it until he mentioned it.

A truly remarkable movie. A must see for all Americans. Should be required viewing in high school IMO.
Good luck making it thru the movie with dry eyes.

Yep.
I thought Kevin Bacon did a great job. Very serious, contemplative and respectful.

I agree. It’ll happen right after schools teach Flag Code...

True. When it came out several years ago, as a USO volunteer, we were given many copies to pass along to our guests. Kevin Bacon, excellent.

Saw it years ago. Powerful & moving. Kevin Bacon was excellent in the role. The men & women who attend to our fallen heroes are incredible. Everyone should see this movie.

Army Officers had some Additional Duties associated with a deceased Soldier.
Casualty Notification Officer
Casualty Assistance Officer
Funeral Detail Officer-In-Charge
Escort Officer
I never served as an Escort Officer, so I don’t know much about it.
Casualty Assistance Officer was hardest of the three that I did.
When you receive your orders, there is no end date. You serve for as long as the family needs you. This is while you carry out your regular duties, too.
I took part in computerized war games where some people would stand and fight to the last man. I always wondered if they had ever been Casualty Assistance Officers.

I heard that too. I had it on my watchlist, so I watched it last night. The TV got a bit blurry quite a bit. An excellent movie. Non political; I highly recommend it. 🇺🇸

Along a similar vein, watch the movie “Grace Is Gone” staring John Cusack. Get the tissues ready.

Great movie. Probably the part that teared me up the most was when they were on the two lane road, and every car behind (dozens) patiently turned on its lights and no one passed.
The care we give our fallen soldiers/sailors is impressive.
