Former President George W. Bush delivered a public repudiation of President Donald Trumps political identity, suggesting many aspects of the current administration are fueling division in the United States and around the world.
The former president defended the ideas of globalism, free trade, and free markets as well as foreign interventionism around the world in a speech at the George W. Bush Institute.
We cannot wish globalism away, Bush said, noting that the United States must sustain wise and sustained global engagement for the future of the country.
Bush indirectly accused Trump of fueling dangerous ideologies that threatened the unity of the United States and global stability, spending a large portion of his speech complaining about social ills in the country.
Weve seen a return of isolationist sentiments forgetting that American security is directly threatened by the chaos and despair of distant places, he warned.
Bush urged Americans to recover our own identity, citing a commitment to global engagement, free and international trade, and immigration.
Weve seen nationalism distorted into nativism, and forgotten the dynamism that immigration has always brought to America, he lamented.
Bigotry seems emboldened, our politics seems more vulnerable to conspiracy theories and outright fabrication, he said. There are some signs that support for democracy itself has waned especially for the young.
But Bushs criticism wasnt merely on Trumps America First political ideology. He also criticized the tone of the American political system led by Trump.
Weve seen our discourse degraded by casual cruelty, he lamented, noting that argument turns too easily into animosity and disagreement escalates into dehumanization.
He criticized the rise of bullying and prejudice in national politics, suggesting that the country lacked positive role models.

George! Where are you in the last eight years?! Didn’t hear you at all during the highly divisive and reckless obamaturd years.
Whatever Dubya. You lost me when the first thing you wanted to do after reelection was use your “political capital” to push amnesty.
I TRULY believe that there has never been a time as bad as today, when people were able to know the truth, but choose to disbelieve it.
There have been many times when people believed lies, but quite often, they had no way to test the lies. Today, I believe there is so much information out there, you have to choose to be ignorant. And this is predicted in scripture - If you don’t want to know the truth, fine. Go ahead and believe the lies:
2 Thessalonians 2
1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
Hey, Bush...it’s not being wished away. It’s been trashed away, you globalist hack.
nothing... Bush and his father have ALWAYS been for the New World Order!
Worst thing Reagan ever did !
Drain That Swamp..
Drain That Swamp..Drain That Swamp
..
Some of us recognized the ‘real’ Bush while he was still in office. He lost me when he started his 2nd term with Social Security reform, ran into some opposition, and dropped it. Then, he turned toward Comprehensive Immigration Reform.
It was kind of fun during that 2nd term and even into the Obama years to occasionally make disparaging remarks on FR about GWB, as that would bring out the Bushbots in droves to protect and defend their guy.
Since then, many of those now former Bushbots have seen the light.
I’m sure this is how he truly thinks.
Mr. Globalist kept his mouth shut for years about Obama.
Almost no respect left for the guy.
The correct question is “What do they have on him?”
What a stooge.
I guess allowing the economic system of the United States to melt down and almost destroy the nation, wasn’t enough.
I take it back. This guy isn’t just a natural loser. He works at it. He worked at weakening the nation during his tenure. He’s now back to working on it.
What do GW and Obama have in common? They both want to see Trump fail so bad they couldn’t care less if the U.S. ended.
Neither one has the slightest clue what our Founding Fathers achieved, and that it is extremely good.
Oh I don’t think even the most ardent Trump supported believes globalism is going away... its just we aren’t going to let those globalist elites and institutions dictate to, and rob us blind any longer.
His ‘True Colours’ are sure coming thru.. NWO Supporters R US.
How about pushing globalism on all the third world failed countries first period after globalism cleans all of those countries up then come knocking on the doors of the United States
The loser knows his legacy of 8 years is a joke compared to just 9 months of Trump.
Great post, sir.
[Mr. Globalist himself speaks...]
Confirmation on how close AMERICA was to losing her sovereignty before the election.
Trump is flushing them all out of the woodwork....
Thank you President Trump.
Free trade, and free markets are also in Trumps agenda...he simply wants the deals to be “fair” and good for “our country”.... He does not oppose those. This does not ake one a NWO Globalist.
Globalism IS what it is and always has been trade and markets. The difference is when it’s NWO Globalists. There are distinctions.
