Wisconsin elementary school bans Halloween costumes
American Thinker ^ | 10/14/17 | Rick Moran

On one level, an elementary school banning Halloween costumes or any mention of Halloween isn't news. The childhood ritual - like most American childhood rituals - fell victim to the purveyors of political correctness years ago.

But in this case, the school in question - Hillcrest Elementary School - had allowed Halloween costumes to be worn by kids during their annual Fall Parade. Until this year, that is.

Check out the school's reasoning that goes far beyond the "non inclusive" nature of Halloween.

Washington Times:

Officials at Hillcrest Elementary School in Waukesha took references to Halloween out of its annual Fall Festival years ago, but that apparently didn’t go far enough this year, a local NBC affiliate reported. Now students are being told they can’t participate in the tradition of wearing their Halloween costumes to the event, because some children were left out.

“We want to be inclusive of all families including those families who don’t celebrate Halloween or find purchasing a costume a hardship,” the school said in a newsletter to parents last week, NBC reported. “Also, there have been behavior and time management concerns related changing into and out of costumes.”

The first, and last school Halloween party, more a school carnival, I went to was in the fall of 1956.
That was the last for many years as the school used the excuse of the “Polio epidemic” to never have one again till around 1964.

Could be they can’t ban it for religious reasons so they have to find some other reason?

We always had a Halloween party but we didn’t do the wear your costume to school thing that a lot of schools are doing now. The whole purpose of the party was to get and eat junk. lol

“At least they won’t be collecting for UNICEF.”

Instead, the school will celebrate “Hat Day” on Halloween, where students are encouraged to wear a “school appropriate hat” and bring a $2 donation for hurricane relief.

“They are worried about those that can’t afford to buy a costume.”

They want $2 a head for “hurricane relief”:

If some kids cant afford a costume, then the teachers can, over the next year, just assemble bits and pieces of costumes, and have the kids just make something up from a big box of miscellaneous stuff.

A crown here, fake nose there. A cape and a clown wig. The kids wont care. They likely will find it more fun.

No kidding! I can just imagine how a school might get in front of it:

“Che Guevera Elementary School will not be participating in Halloween Celebrations nor sponsoring a costume contest this year and going forward. We have learned that our student body usually finds a way to wear a bit of Halloween costuming in their daily attire and we now encourage this practice.”

At least they won’t be collecting for UNICEF.

The poor kiddies won't get to listen to my anti-UN rant. :-)

I would posit the party was a safety relief valve. It was to let off the steam of halloween excitement.

I personally don’t remember any halloween activity at school.

I went to school in the 60s. We never had Halloween costumes or parties at school. We were too busy being miserable with the multiplication tables.

Teachers had a lot more authority over what took place in their classrooms back then also...I don't recall too many school wide activities besides some general assemblies.

Sounds like the clowns are running the show at most schools anyway.

It’s a circus and Halloween all year round.

Wanna know how to get hem back? Tell them “Thank you for supporting Christian Faith by banning this pagan ritual”. Then claim credit for its removal in the name of Christianity. Even if they don’t bring it back you will have loads of fun watching the fireworks from the left...

Wouldn’t count on it, Waukesha is strongly Republican, smack in the heart of Paul Ryan’s district. They love him there.

I think when they were being told that the Baltimore Aquarium and Smithsonian were no longer approved functions/field trips.. the two oldest flipped. The “new” field trips were “in house” and featured “cultural experiences” like dance. The entire school could participate from one PTA fee. So, no cool bus rides, no cool dolphins, no cool historic sites... just dance. Of course, it was presented like it was “all fair” and “good”. You can only fool children for so long and they see the writing on the wall. :)

I can remember on a Halloween number of years back, some teenage girl at a high school nearby came dressed in her costume as a Playboy bunny (complete with bunny tail). Apparently, the principal did not think much of her outfit and sent her home to change, lol.

because some children were left out.

Whaaaa! It's not fair that everyone didn't win the spelling bee! Whaaaa! It's not fair that Suzy failed the test but Kai got an A and a smiley face on his test. Whaaa! It's not fair George gets to use the girls restroom but Billy and Jesus have to use the boys. Whaaa! It's not fair that Katie made a soccer goal at recess but DeShauna's attempt was blocked. Whaaa!
