Police found a note in the hotel room of Stephen Paddock, the gunman behind the mass shooting in Las Vegas, that had hand-written calculations about where he needed to aim to kill as many people as possible.
In an interview that will be aired Sunday on CBS's "60 Minutes," Officer Dave Newton from the Las Vegas Police Department's K-9 unit said he noticed a note on the shooter's bedside table after officers entered the room. The note was next to one of the windows that Paddock smashed with a hammer to clear an opening to fire into the crowd from his 32nd-floor hotel suite at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
"I could see on it he had written the distance, the elevation he was on, the drop of what his bullet was gonna be for for the crowd," Newton said. "So he had had that written down and figured out so he would know where to shoot to hit his targets from there."
Using semi-automatic rifles that he modified with a "bump stop" to increase their rate of fire, Paddock on Oct. 1 killed 58 people and injured nearly 500 others. Paddock, 64, killed himself with a gun before police entered the room to find his body and 47 weapons.
More than 20,000 people were attending the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival when Paddock began shooting into the crowd, which was about 400 yards away.

Police said all chargers do match phones belonging to Paddock. I think that came out early today.
Actually, I went back and listened to the video. At about the 3:11 mark in the video you can hear the first shot. At about the 3:17 mark you hear a second shot and and at 3:20 a third shot. At about 3:27 the person recording the video pans the camera and at about 3:37 you can see the crowd begin rushing for the exits.
At 3:45 someone asks what's going on. At about 3:50 the first long burst of full auto fire is heard. So, actually, the crowd disperal was well underway by the time of the first long burst.
I wonder what possible explanations exist for the initial single shots?
True, McCabe is “in charge” but not on the ground nor running the show. The local FBI SAC is, and not 5 days ago Lombardo spoke highly of him and it was sincere. Of course in a case like this, loyalties can change depending the pressure from various people inside.
Dunno, just don’t like how it looks.
That is why you hand your long rifle to a police officer.
It looked like my two pound sledge. Easy to put lotsa force behind it. Breaking the window was probably pretty easy. I’ll bet he even practiced “someplace”...dump...construction site...
I lean toward the theory that there was a second person who was in Brian Hodge’s room with the second broken window and was watching the camera on the food cart and maybe firing rounds out the window.
He got out in time, closing the door connecting to the Vista Suite and perhaps running up the stairs to the Four Seasons. Need to more about the claim that the fire door to the stairwell was somehow ‘blocked’ when it should open out into the stairwell.
Hillary is baaaack.

She won’t be leaving until after Christmas. Remember she is selling a
book and once the Holidays are over I expect her to halt the book tour.
Those hotels are bristling with cameras.
He would have had to vacate before guard got there in 4 minutes. Not likely. And the food cart blocked that rooms exit.
He should have had better notes.
Buy guns and ammo.
Get rooms with a view.
Use the binoculars to make sure Mohammed pulls the car to the tanks.
Then and only then, break the windows and proceed as planned.
There is a woman running around the internet commenting and posting a link. She says it’s a video of one of Paddock’s neighbors saying Paddock was a Trump supporter.
I didn’t hit the link, but I’ve seen her in about 3 spots today.
Sure, bristling with cameras in the casino and public areas.
Yet we have been told there were no cameras in the corridors with the guest rooms. Seems surprising but if true probably no cameras in the fire stairwell either.
Is this sarcasm? I sure hope so...because if not...it's pretty stupid. Unless someone in the audience is carrying a scoped rifle...they ain't hitting a guy shooting from 1100' from the 32nd floor.
I cannot IMAGINE 20,000 people shooting back at a hotel full of people not knowing where to really aim at. Much less trying to shoot at a target 320'+ in the air and 1100' away. Talk about carnage!
I remember the guy in Reno at the Trump rally just before the election who posed as a Trump supporter and then rushed the stage. He was jumped on by the crowd and then taken out by security.
Yes, but some say he had some in the room.
With his money, it wouldn’t be hard to get some.
“And nobody in the crowd could shoot back.
If that were possible, this chap might have thought twice about his fish-in-a-barrel idea. Fish in a barrel that shoot back are not nearly the fun.”
He counted on the democrats “shelter in place” bull shit...eg crouch, lay down etc right in the field of fire.
Sniper ad litem?
“I wonder what possible explanations exist for the initial single shots?”
No need to wonder, just make something up!
I keed, I keed, though many are certainly coming up with, um, ‘creative’ theories.
They're holding back IMO. I believe they know exactly what his motive was and have simply declined to reveal it at this point.
That would explain why no hotel video of Paddock's movements, no autopsy report, etc.
FOX said it didn’t this afternoon. Guess they’re behind.
