The Cancer in the Constitution
NEW YORK TIMES ^ | 06 OCTOBER 2017 | TIMOTHY EAGAN

Posted on 10/06/2017 3:28:24 PM PDT by Extremely Extreme Extremist

Not so with guns. The Second Amendment, as applied in the last 30 years or so, has become so perverted, twisted and misused that you have to see it now as the second original sin in the founding of this country, after slavery.

It wasn’t meant to be the instrument for the worst kind of American exceptionalism — setting up the United States as the most violent of developed nations. But it is now. The more we stand out for random mass killings daily, the more the leading cause becomes clear: the warped interpretation of the freedom to own lethal weaponry.

Any penchant toward violence is in the personal character, NOT in the gun, or the knife, or the rock, or the ax, or the machete, or the bomb, or the fist, or any other object by which violence is committed.

It is the social atmosphere, in its materialism, its morals, and lack thereof, its political and social exaggeration and demand of a constant with us or against us mentality, that permits and even encourages the already violence prone to use a socially manufactured excuse for their violence, by whatever means. Absent that it matters not which instruments are available, and with all of that it matters not which instruments are available because the violence prone will either find one or make one.

Instead of attacking objects of violence Liberals should quit all the ways they help manufacture social excuses for it, in which they only condemn it when it suits their political narrative, helping to create the mentality that it is sometimes socially excusable.

The already mentally unstable, for whatever reason, are NOT protected from the environment that excuses violence for social reasons. They absorb it and can act on it as readily as the “protester”, “rioter for ‘social justice’”, urban, “poor”, minority criminal or anyone else. The random violent person can say: “If the violence of someone else is socially excusable, why not mine?” But who is it that makes politically convenient excuses and even justifications for social violence? Democrats and that is telescoped by their friends all across the media.

The only thing that would have made it better is if it protected Christianity as the National religion, not a specific denomination, but Christianity in general.

If the Redcoats in Boston in 1775 had been armed with M16s, the Second Amendment would mandate that every American must own two of them.

Imagine a future where the government of the U.S. is dominated by people like the antifa professor who was recorded hitting people with a bicycle lock on a chain during a Berkeley protest. Imagine a future government controlled by the harpy who stole a MAGA hat off a man and went to the police because she thought they would somehow protect her from having to live in the same world as such men.

The future looks challenging enough as it is without having to face it unarmed. Here in Kalifornia we have already been assured that evil assault rifles will be eliminated by outlawing pistol grips, collapsible stocks, and flash suppressors. Now they want to outlaw what is actually just a spring-mounted butt plate on a rifle.

The article claims that the last 30 years has seen a dramatic increase in the lethality of our weaponry. I recall clearly that the liberals wet their panties even before then when they discovered that people could own collections of artillery pieces.

There will never be an end to their wish to disarm the innocent. I say, "Hell No!"

Timothy Eagan (bless his heart) doesn't realize that his whole line of argument is a moot point, and really nothing more than a lament.

At this late point in America's history, the individual right to own lethal weapons is part of the woof and warp of our culture and base societal organizing principles. It's simply not possible to put the genie back in the bottle - especially considering the fact that there are close to 400 million guns in civilian hands.

Even if Congress were somehow able to pass a constitutional amendment abolishing the 2nd Amendment, it would not be recognized by enough citizens to make it legitimate. Such a decision, if ratified, would only spark a bloody confrontation between the statists and free Americans.

There's no question which side would win in that conflict.

The history of slavery and gun violence belongs to the Democratic Party!

May God bless us, guide us and protect us all!

1st Amendment - Colleges are now protesting against free speech.
2nd Amendment - Democrats & NYT says eliminate gun rights.
3rd Amendment - So far, we’re safe from housing soldiers.
4th Amendment - Civil forfeture without a conviction is already OK in many states.
5th Amendment - Doesn’t apply in Grand Jury hearings. Too bad.
6th Amendment - So far, OK.
7th Amendment - .not sure
8th Amendment - not sure
9th Amendment - not sure
10th Amendment - Nullified by the Supreme Court.

We are #154 in the world in gun violence. 3/4 of the world has higher gun violence than we do.

you have to see it [the Second Amendment] now as the second original sin in the founding of this country, after slavery.

Actually, Timothy Eagan's rumored support of pedophilia [he's failed to denounce it] is a cancer.

NYT degreates what is IN the Constitution while supporting concepts that are NOT in the Constitution. They should be intellectually honest and advocate for the repeal of the Billof Rights. But that would require intellect.

...............fact check one: as far as I know, in all mass shootings the shooter was a Democrat.

fact check two: Our forefathers did not know or have a clue about fact # 1 or they would have outlawed the Democratic Party in the Constitution.

The upcoming Convention of the States needs to put in their deliberations outlawing the Democratic Party. It does more harm than any other single institution in America.

I’ve also read the same about Japanese Americans in that they have about the same homicide rate as those in Japan itself: basically non existent.

Exactly. The homicide rate is culturally related.

So when someone says "the United States as the most violent of developed nations" I have to ask, what other developed nations share our demographics?

Little Timmy the traitor should leave the United States now before he’s forcibly shipped one-way to North Korea.

The alternative is getting hanged from a lamppost.
