NASHVILLE, Tenn.--Las Vegas Police Department Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said on Wednesday night the man responsible for the largest mass-shooting in America's history was also heavily armed with explosive chemicals. Sheriff Lombardo stated Stephen Paddock, responsible for the deaths of 58 people and over 480 injured during Sunday night's Las Vegas shooting, also had large amounts of ammonium nitrate and tannerite in his vehicle outside the Mandalay Bay Hotel.
Someone who works for company that cleans Mandalay windows said that none of the windows open, and there were no broken windows lower down...FWIW
I have heard this. I also heard there were “vent strips” of about 1/2 inch there that, using a crowbar, could be opened wider.
I’ve heard this too. Can’t find anyone to absolutely verify one way or the other.
Someone found another video and pointed out that the “muzzle flashes” from the lower floors could still be seen several hours after the shooting stopped. That was the first clue that they were not muzzle flashes at all.
That’s a possibility too.
And again, we are not looking at the same thing. I know what you’re talking about. Yes, that strobe is there. NO, that’s not what’s on the muzzle flash video from the cab.
Has anyone heard where his car was parked in relationship to his room, the concert venue and the storage tanks? Close enough to hit from the room and drive more people into the kill zone?
What seems rather strange about that video, is that these guys could obtain some and blow it up on a lark.
Talk about a how-to video.
The shooter probably intended to use the tannerite as a detonator for an ammonium nitrate (ANFO) bomb made from the ammonium nitrate he had in his possession. ANFO bombs are very powerful explosives but they are very stable and can only be detonated by explosive detonator
The shooter no doubt planned to use a ANFO bomb detonated using tannerite as a detonator ignited by a rifle shot
There may be one or more caches of ANFO/tannerite devices hidden in the area that the shooter never got to set off
Looks like he may have had an escape plan using explosions of fuel tanks and ANFO bombs to create diversions as well as mass casualties
You sure? Heard today from someone associated with window cleaning of Mandalay that NO windows will open...
If this is true it’s interesting! It’s not something the ordinary good time Charlie gambler would normally know.
It raises the complexity.
ABC World News Tonight said the shooter had rented rooms at OTHER Las Vegas Strip hotels the night of the shooting.
When the shooting was happening in real time, there were police reports of shots being fired from the Luxor Hotel (that’s the pyramid-shaped hotel with the Egyptian theme, for those unfamiliar with Las Vegas).
I dismissed that early report as reverberations coming from the rounds fired from Mandalay Bay, but now I’m wondering WTH?
There was a police scanner report of a shooting at the same time on “Reno & Giles.” Nothing appeared later.
Yet his live-in Philippino lady friend, according to her mouthpiece, knows nuttin'.
Yah, sure.

Been there,they do
I wonder if tannerite would actually set an anfo bomb off...if so I'd expect it to get banned soon.
I would be interested to know if a rifle bullet can be used to set off a jet fuel (kerosene?) explosion reliably.
mythbusters could not replicate setting off a car (gasoline) explosion using a bullet:
if the answer is that it is difficult, then that might help answer the question of whether there was expert terrorist collaboration involved. i think it would be unlikely that expert terrorists would invest so much effort in a plan that did not have a reasonably high expectation of success, if for no other reason than that their action would likely to result in making future targets more terrorist-resistant to the particular manner of the attack. this would imply that the guy was more of an amateur, DIY type of “lone nut.”
also i wonder how much protection (such as double lining, etc) jet fuel tanks already have. if i had to guess, i would imagine that they are already terrorist-resistant to a significant degree by code and/or convention, since one can often find such tanks near airports and so they are a relatively obvious target.
i think there were two problems with the shooting where improvements could be made.
1. holding concerts away from tall buildings whose upper floors are open to the general public, so as to give potential terrorists less opportunity to stake out such high ground for a surprise attack on large groups of innocent civilians.
2. better crowd dispersal in the presence of a terrorist attack: multiple points of exit that can be opened by security guards at the first sign of an attack; and well and reliably lighted large emergency signs that illuminate the exits in case of attack to direct event attendees to the exits in an orderly manner.
I have not been religiously following the matter but i have not seen such improvements being mentioned in coverage so far— to date, all i have seen are discussions on whether or not there is enough gun control.
Realistically Las Vegas and some other cities have been reasonably obvious targets for terrorists to hit ever since 9/11.
one other thing about the nature of the suspect which was mentioned on fox this evening is that the guy had lots of assault rifles (and i hope i am using the term correctly; my apologies if not, since i am not an expert on any of this stuff). some counterterrorist experts interviewed said that the reason the guy had so many weapons was that he expected jams, and the easiest way to deal with a jam is to set the weapon aside and use a different weapon. they said that jams were likely under the circumstances of the shooting due to overheating and expansion of the parts, and that some weapons were found to be jammed by authorities. they said that an expert would be able to deal with jams and continue using the same weapon. an open question here imho would be how could an overheated weapon be unjammed and returned to fully functional. iirc the only way to deal with a machine gun whose barrel was overheated by too much use is either to wait until it cooled down or to use, in the design, a water jacket with a pump.
This has been explain. It’s very likely that the lower floors have windows that open, and look exactly the same as higher windows.
