The number of patients who regret their sex change surgeries, especially among biological males who underwent operations to look like females, is on the rise, according to a leading genital reconstructive surgeon.
Professor Miroslav Djordjevic, who runs a clinic in Belgrade, Serbia, said that the number of people who have come to him with regrets over their gender reassignment surgeries has been increasing over the past five years, according to The Telegraph.
Djordjevic spoke about the "crippling levels of depression," including suicidal thoughts, that those wishing for a reversal have shared with him.
"It can be a real disaster to hear these stories," the 52-year-old surgeon said.
Djordjevic said that he performs around 100 surgeries a year both at his Belgrade clinic and New York's Mount Sinai Hospital, and called for greater understanding into the field.
"Definitely reversal surgery and regret in transgender persons is one of the very hot topics," the surgeon said. "Generally, we have to support all research in this field."
He also revealed that all of the reversals he has carried out so far have been transgender women aged over 30, who have made the decision to restore their male genitalia.
The surgeon shared his concerns that the average age of patients undergoing sex operations is declining, and could be legally reduced to include minors.
Djordjevic stated that he will not carry out such surgeries on people under 18, however.
"I'm afraid what will happen five to 10 years later with this person," he explained. "It is more than about surgery; it's an issue of human rights. I could not accept them as a patient as I'd be afraid what would happen to their mind."
He also said that he has deep reservations about treating children with hormonal drugs before they reach puberty, which is under debate.
"Ethically, we have to help any person over the world starting from three to four years of age, but in the best possible way," he said. "If you change general health with any drug, I'm not a supporter of that theory."
Reports written by medical experts and scholars have questioned the safety and effectiveness of pressuring gender-confused children to undergo "radical" and "experimental" puberty-blocking hormone therapy.
The recent "Growing Pains: Problems With Puberty Suppression in Treating Gender Dysphoria" report argued that there is little evidence to show that puberty suppression is "reversible, safe, or effective for treating gender dysphoria."
Djordjevic's comments come amid a controversial decision by Bath Spa University in the U.K. last week to block researchers from looking into cases concerning gender reassignment surgery regrets.
The Sunday Times noted that James Caspian, a psychotherapist, wanted to study for a master's degree in counselling and psychotherapy, but was refused permission to look into this area.
The university apparently explained that such research is potentially "politically incorrect," and could open the institution for criticism online.
Caspian, who specializes in therapy for transgender people, said that Bath Spa is violating "the most basic tenets of academic and intellectual freedom of enquiry," however.
Galileo had similar concerns back in his day. Oh wait, that was the inquisition and his life was at risk. And he did the science anyway. Other than that though...

I find it hard to believe that “bottom” surgery is reversible to any satisfactory degree.
I transported a man from hospital to rehab center about a year or so ago.
‘He’, now ‘she’, had just had a sex change done.
I watched him in the mirror as I drove. He looked terrified for the entire 20 minute trip.
Wait till they get in their mid 40’s.
Crazy, ugly and no $$$ is not a winning strategy with women approaching mid age.

Transgender pilots are no longer considered to suffer from a gender identity disorder — that’s according to an updated medical guide at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which changed its terminology from “gender identity disorder” to what it now calls “gender dysphoria,” a more widely-accepted term within the LGBT community.
The FAA tells ABC News that the change was intended to streamline the process for transgender pilots and make sure pilots receive medical certification as quickly as possible. The federal agency was quick to note, however, that there is no new policy and the vast majority of transgender people who seek an FAA medical certificate get their certificate as long as they do not have disqualifying medical conditions.

While it’s tempting to attribute such disturbing phenomena to medical and chemical causes, this removes the aspect of free will and assigns one’s thought processes to those of an automaton.
More likely, in my opinion, is the concept of polymorphous perversity.
It is an idea that was popularized by the neo-Marxists of the 1960s, and ever since the normalization of homosexuality has reached a critical mass. It basically states that society will be less fascist/authoritarian with the advent of “free love”, aka perversion in as many forms as possible.
“Gender” confusion is something that is actually natural. Children in their tender years do not have well-formed ideas about their identities. They are as likely to say “I want to be a girl” as they are “I want to be a fire truck.”
In the “progressive” society, though, children’s thoughts about their “gender” is now sacred and enshrined in political correctness, rather than eliciting any sort of parental correction.
And that’s where most of the millennial problems have arisen from - awful, permissive, progressive parenting.
IMO, a condition known as Autogynephilia likely accounts for many M2F patients.
Autogynephilia is defined as a male's propensity to be sexually aroused by the thought of himself as a female. It is the paraphilia that is theorized to underlie transvestism and some forms of male-to-female (MtF) transsexualism.
Loss of testosterone can lessen the effect of Autogynephilia, leading to reduced arousal by the though of being female. Thus the patient may lose the desire that lead them to seek reassignment
Some M2Fs figure this out and after the surgeries and acquisition of secondary female characteristics from estrogen therapy then switch and take testosterone to return to the mental state they had before surgery.
There is a more involved M2F surgery that is reversible... this seems a more sensible option for many IMO.
It is NOT possible to fashion a functional penis at this time...this makes for a poor result for both F2M patients and for M2F patients who wish to undo what has been done.
For F2M the best that can be done is to administer testosterone and hope for enough clitoral growth to form a small penis. [The penis and the clitoris are actually the same body part...it's a vestigial part for the XX genotype]
So...there is NO such thing as an addadictome?
While I have never been one to promote suing doctors for doing what you asked them to do, perhaps some lawsuits from the “victims” will send a message and generate some publicity, that might cause some of these demented individuals from being determined to “change gender”. JMHO
