Country Music Star Describes Arming Police Officer During Las Vegas Shooting (John Rich)
Daily Caller ^ | 10-2-2017 | David Hookstead

Posted on 10/03/2017 4:06:28 AM PDT by servo1969

Country music star John Rich handed over his own firearm to a police officer who used it to defend civilians in a bar during the Las Vegas strip massacre.

Rich, who is the star of Big & Rich, explained how it all went down on Fox News.

“I had an off-duty police officer, it was a Minneapolis police officer, off-duty, was in my bar hanging out. He came up to me and showed me his badge, and he says, ‘I’m officer – I forget his last name – and I’m [a police] officer and I’m not armed for the first time ever. I can’t believe it. Are you armed?’ I said yes I am armed. I had my concealed carry. He asked, ‘can I have your firearm so I can hold point on this door?’ So I handed over my firearm to him, everybody got behind him and for two hours he held point on that door without flinching,” Rich said during his appearance on Fox News.

This is such an incredible story. Of course Rich, a huge pro-America guy, had a gun and gave it to the police. I would be surprised if he didn’t have a gun. Good for him. Is there any genre of music more likely to have armed singers than country music? Didn’t think so.

um... ever heard of luggage ?

too much second guessing from people who are obviously sleep deprived or something.

In Texas it makes a difference, not sure about Nevada. Fire arms are illegal to posses in a bar unless you own/manage the bar.

Actually, not by definition. If the establishment is a RED 51% location yes, otherwise, carry away.

Even with a handgun, you are helpless at trying to shoot someone with a machine gun as far away as the shooter was. As for the shooter, he was guaranteed kills because with a full crowd of 40,000 people and a height advantage, hits were guarateed for him. Best bet is that now hotels need X-ray machines to check suitcases for guns.

A handgun wouldn’t have helped in this situation, but could in countless others

Oops... misread your post... sorry. Although most rifles are sighted in for 100 yards.. and they train at that range... would need to make haste towards the target... suppressive fire into glass windows where you can’t see the bacstop would prove problematic I would think... open to ideas

Well, I imagine thug rappers are armed to the teeth with mostly illegal guns.

“You can have a firearm in a bar?”

And apparently you can just walk in, tell them you’re a cop and they’ll give it to you to “hold the door”.

Badge or no Badge, I demand a plan from someone I’ve never met before asking for my gun during a mass shooting. So I know who I am saying “No” to.

No the best solution is to stage snipers on 2-3 rooftops around events like this and take him out after one volley or so.

Thanks for the correction - I wasn't going to say anything.
Most others spout off without actually reading...

I was thinking about what our officers carry in their vehicles - ARs with optics - and the shooter is obviously shooting through a blown out window and is vulnerable to incoming fire as well.

Modern buildings have concrete floor structure and rounds going into his room through his open window would impact his ceiling and go no further.

I've seen video and the muzzle flashes clearly mark the shooter.

A 100-yard zeroed weapon (5.56mm) will shoot a couple of inches low at 200-300 yards.

I have wondered, watching the coverage, why police didn't lay down suppressive fire on those windows.

The shooter was like a member of the Taliban up on a hill blasting away at GI's in a valley down below. Except unlike the Taliban, the shooter potentially had human shields on every floor of the building and couldn't be taken out by airstrikes for fear of collateral damage. He's provided a very useful ploy for mass killers on one way missions. May he spend eternity being tortured in the manner of Greek legend.

I’m NOT a cop.

I have one!

Well damn - you found the weakness of my plan. Cancel the airstrike.

The odds of accidentally shooting a hotel guest in their own room goes way up.

Wait for the HUNDREDS of lawsuits AGAINST Mandalay Bay for NOT stopping the shooter in the first place!!!

Very convenient that all the concert goers were stripped of their guns.

What good would a pistol have been returning fire at a shooter on the 32nd floor?

Wouldn’t have to be a mass shooting. Or even anything real.

When shooting horizontally.

Did the perp have an outdoor area where he could practice from that range and downward angle?

Plenty of remote areas in NV & AZ to do just that.

There’s a cigar bar in Greenville with a sign stating, “This is NOT a gun free zone.”
Great cigars. Great drinks. Great crowd.

“You can have a firearm in a bar?”

In GA, if you can carry legally (permit), then you can carry in a bar providing the bar owner doesn’t mind and providing you aren’t drunk. Didn’t used to be that way, and I’m not sure when they changed it.
