Others have given you the definition - but the thing about belt fed is that outside of a few civilian owners that are heavily regulated, belt fed weapons are almost exclusively the realm of the military and it is extremely unusual for one to be used in a crime. Belt fed weapons are big, heavy, complex to load and use and are generally not the weapon of choice for your average criminal or generic terrorist. The Paris attack involved automatic rifles using magazines, for example, not a belt fed machine gun.

Sadly, you should expect many more casualties and fatalities. Belt-fed weapons tend to be more effective and lethal than automatic rifles.

So there likely were SPECIFIC threats.

I’ve been speculating that the long pauses between belt dumps were because they may have been changing the barrel. 15 second pauses to reload the belt are a bit long even for new gunners, but adding a barrel change to it would explain it.
