Diana Montelongo came to the United States as a 6-year-old from Mexico, brought by her parents in search of a better education.
Now a graduate of UC Berkeley, Montelongo teaches math in Natomas to middle school students.
The day after the 2016 election, she decided to share her story.
I came into the classroom and students were crying and hugging each other, Montelongo recalled. There were students that had to be sent home because they were afraid their parents were not going to be there when they returned.
Montelongo, 23, is one of about 5,000 educators working in California schools who are not just working with undocumented students but are undocumented themselves.
If DACA is reversed, we are losing teachers who want to be in the classroom, Montelongo said. Its impacting the students directly. We already have students who have had long-term substitutes the entire year.
Montelongo landed in her Natomas classroom through Teach for America, a national nonprofit in which teachers commit to working in underserved neighborhoods in return for additional training and mentoring.
She has been educating other Teach for America participants on how to support students who are undocumented and fear they and their families will be deported.
Its definitely a sense of fear, not knowing what my future holds, Montelongo said.
But if she has to leave her job, Montelongo wants her students to know why.
I want to be here, she said. I want to be here for the students. If I have to leave, I want my students to know it isnt because Im leaving them.
The Sacramento region has more than 13,000 DACA recipients, more than most states, according to the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank in Washington, D.C.

Dont believe these Lying Leftist Media outlets that proved themselves during the 2016 campaign to be operatives of the DNC and intentional liars. They are presumed to be lying and we should presume what they publish is a lie. The presumption can only be rebutted with the outlet providing clear and convincing evidence they are not lying.
Quite a few legal citizens would have loved that college slot at Berserkeley.
Her parents broke the law-—and she has to pay a price.
That’s the way it is.
When American citizens are imprisoned their kids pay a price——and the MSM ignores their plight.
This whining is getting tiresome,

Mexico desperately needs 7th grade math teachers.
How does this work? Does she have an SSN? Isn't she employed illegally?
There are a lot of Guatemalans in our area - they do yard work and landscaping, mostly. One such “dreamer” I know is 19 years old, a high school dropout, and a loser who has ditched any opportunity this country offers. I had to fire him and his Mexican co-worker for drinking and fighting in my yard. All they had to do was spread out some bark around our shrubs and they failed. See my tagline.
So she not only was brought here illegally, but she stole an education at a public university, probably helped by affirmative action, that could have gone to a citizen. Well, I’m sure whereever she came from needs teachers too.
Her FUTURE is NOT in jeopardy. The future is coming, regardless. Of course, she might not be in the USA and instead be in her home country. But, she still has a bright future with many assets available that others can only dream of. Good luck to her.
“Diana Montelongo came to the United States as a 6-year-old from Mexico, brought by her parents in search of a better education. Now a graduate of UC Berkeley...”
She graduated from a university so I would say she found that “better education”. Now it’s time for your parents to take you home, honey.
We’re paying for schools that hire illegal aliens to teach illegal aliens - - all of whom are demanding general amnesty.
Our republic is lost.
Adding or subtracting INTEGERS? Whole numbers? As best that I can recall, I was adding and subtracting integers from about the 1st or 2nd grade. Adding and subtracting whole numbers with different signs was probably about third .. maybe fourth.
What in the blazes are these students doing in a 7th grade math class just learning to add and subtract integers!!??
Deport now!
The same way Barry got into Occidental College, Columbia, and Harvard. By enrolling as a foreign student.
Here come the boo-hoo sob stories. Pull at the heartstrings of every woman or emotionally driven person.
Who paid their tuition?
Illegal Aliens get Non-Resident Status because they can not legally reside in California. Then they get an Illegal Alien Credit for being a Criminal Invader through no fault of their own, then they get a Free Education and Food and Housing for being Oppressed by American Taxpayers.
ITIN. Which is like SSN but a replacement for non-US citizens. They use it to pay taxes or whatever. I know some who use it who are here illegally.
The only way to end this BS is put a $10,000 cash bounty on illegals and report them like CrimeStoppers. Believe me, a lot of legal mexicans would love to do that to their fellow illegals.
Don’t they have 7th grade in Mexico?
Policy By Anecdote is one of the hallmarks of the Left.
1. Was she given advantages that were not offered to legal citizens of the USA?
- Scholorships?
- Admissions priority?
- Welfare?
- Other freebies such as housing, medical care, food, clothing, obamaphone, etc.?
2. To what extent does she embrace our language, culture, and heritage? Does she speak English, exclusively. Does she teach in English?
3. If she were at an NFL stadium, would she proudly stand tall and salute Old Glory, with no hesitation?
4. Is she taking the place of a United States citizen who would love to have that teaching job?
5. Has she considered returning to mexico and teaching there?
.
Now that's what I call a target rich environment.
Sounds like foreign territory.
