Army Ranger Says He ‘Made a Mistake’ Standing For National Anthem Without His Team

Former Army Ranger Alejandro Villanueva was the ONLY Steeler to come out for the National Anthem on Sunday. He stood in the tunnel while the rest of the team hid in the locker room like disrespectful cowards. Villanueva stood with his hand over his heart and sang along with pride during the National Anthem.

The 28-year-old former Army Ranger is a bronze star recipient and served three tours in Afghanistan.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said he noticed Villanueva during a preseason game because of the way he stood during the National Anthem, according to an article in NFL.com.

Imagine being Villanueva. He fought for this country and then has to play side by side with teammates who blatantly disrespect his service and the flag.

He forgot the “Code”.

DUTY - HONOR - COUNTRY

It’s not just a catchy phase, for some of us it is a way of life.

He didn’t make a mistake. The rest of the team did by not standing with him, in solidarity.

Villanueva probably doesn’t want to be Tebowed. This is probably going to be his last season, whether the billionaire owners get rid of him or the millionaire union thugs arrange for him to be injured.

There’s no room for free speech in the NFL.

He is getting a lot of attention both good and bad.

Most Veterans I run into these days, don’t want the ‘high profile of attention.’

God Bless him for his service and valor on the real battlefield, for standing on Sunday because he knew it is the right thing to do, and may God and the public make sure he knows he is doing the right thing and millions of Americans appreciate ALL he has done.

No ‘jackass.’ His Army/military brothers supported him and now his coach and team let him down. To a Veteran with 3 tours of duty and likely some level of PTSD to have that support pulled out from under you...damn them, just may God damn them. They did worse than spit on a Veteran, they spit on a true American hero.

Some here will be furious with him, what he is facing now psychologically is truly betrayal ...maybe a realization ‘domestic enemies,’ it would be hard to be in his head right now. My heart and support goes out to him.

Looks like Villanueva would rather compromise his principles than be shunned by a bunch of over-paid players made stupid by pride and arrogant ignorance. If they were not blinded by arrogance and belief in their so-called ‘moral superiority’ they would see .that by trashing our nation, our President, and middle class workers they are cutting off the privileged branch they’re sitting on, in other words, digging their own graves.

He’s standing in the middle of the road now.

Well. It shows how when trump says something and then doesn’t back down after threats it’s always a winner for him

So, he made “a mistake”?

Big parts of our culture are “a mistake”.

The fawning adulation of pro sports people, for instance.

I can’t wait for the Great Cleansing. It is overdue.

He doesn’t want to be a poster boy. 70% of the NFL is black and they all hate him now.

I suspect you just hit the nail squarely on the head.

I'm disappointed. I believed Alejandro Villanueva to be a man of high character and integrity after seeing him stand in the entrance to the tunnel during the national anthem. To see an Army Ranger back down like this, I'm stunned.

I'd be curious to know how he reconciles this with Ben Rothlisberger's statement that he now regrets not going out to stand for the National Anthem?

It saddens me that the symbol that used to unite us all, the American Flag has become such a divisive issue today. The progressive/alt/liberal left and the media and democrat party have done more to divide and damage this country in the last 8 months than in 8 years under Obama IMO....

This is the beginning of the end of NFL. It passed its high water mark a few years ago in interest and attendance.

Activism was demanded by the NFL when players started wearing pink looking ridiculous and distracting. NFL supported activism took an ugly turn with the misguided, treasonous, and counter productive disrespect for the United States of America. It was embarrassing and humiliating to see ignorant and rich thugs give the finger to us while standing on foreign soil in London, especially the Ravens.

Add to that the Democrats magnifying concerns about concussions, and complaining that the NFL is not dumbing down to be more inclusive because they only use the best of the best athletes. Many Democrats are displeased because free enterprise does not support socialism.

He should quit and today. And say he was sorry for saying he was sorry

But today. After that his life’s going to be miserable in the NFL anyway

It’s just money

A soldier apologized for showing up for the playing of the national anthem at Soldier Field. Bizzare.

I am profoundly disappointed in Villanueva.

My respect for this EX-ranger just took a nose dive.
I hope other Rangers do not follow this turd’s example in disrespecting the flag and country.

You’ll never find a SEAL, SWCC or Marine Ranger doing something like this.

When I read what he actually said and not the headlines, it is too different stories. He is not sorry he stood for the flag, he is sorry the other team leaders did not join him because of confusion in the locker room. The team captains were going to stand with him, but it got screwed up. It looked like he was trying to show up his teammates which was not the case.

Media gets it wrong all the time.
