Naaa...not really. His swamp-dwelling UniParty puppet masters allowed him to “toss a bone” to the conservatives and the POTUS to keep them at bay.
Trump needs to shit can the mild & meek old UniParty fart and get himself a real bulldog that ain’t afraid to take on a fight.

The guy with the technical knowledge of pardons in the DOJ is Larry Kupers.
Pretty much a Swamp Dweller but the pardon power is critical for any president and would be defended as such.

B.S.
The U.S. Justice Department wanted this case to go away completely after President Trump issued his formal pardon of Arpaio. The problem here was that the timing of the pardon was terrible. The pardon was issued after Arpaio and his legal team had already filed a motion to have the conviction overturned. Rather than simply accept the pardon and go home, it was Arpaio and his legal team who insisted on pursuing the challenge to his original conviction.
Like I said ... the DOJ, and the judge in the case, would have been happy to walk away from the case. But since Arpaio insisted on going ahead with his challenge, the judge had to issue an order a few weeks ago that compelled the DOJ to file a response to Arpaio's challenge. Go figure.
Apparently they filed the only response that even came close to making any sense, in light of the circumstances. LOL.

And since Trump pardoned him in the mean time, the only thing the govt could do was re-iterate the Presidents official position.
HA HA I love it !!

It would not surprise me if Jeff is doing this so Joe can run against Flake. That would mean least 3 in the Primary which is what the GOPe wants. The only way l see Flake surviving is if the base is split.

Let Joe Arpaio organize the Federal prison that will house the criminal element from the Democrat Party: Obama, Clinton, Holder, Jeh Johnson, Susan Rice, etc.
I suggest locating the facility down by the Yuma Bombing Range near Ajo.
The prison industry could be collecting trash dumped by aliens. The other task could be planting cactus....this group has experience handling prickly objects.

“and the judge in the case, would have been happy to walk away from the case.”
Judge was the one who “tried Arpaio” all by herself. She was the reason he was convicted because she had her panties in a wad about “illegal’s rights.” The followup step should be to remove her from the bench, because all of this was about “her views” on illegal immigration which are counter to the laws of the country.

Most contempt of court cases are tried by a judge without a jury. Under Federal law, I believe any minor criminal charge does not require a jury ... and “minor” is defined as any charge where the maximum sentence is six months or less.

All the same Susan Bolton is a POS who should be removed from the bench, but sadly about half of the Federal Judiciary is in the same boat.

“Under Federal law, I believe any minor criminal charge does not require a jury ... and minor is defined as any charge where the maximum sentence is six months or less.”
And if the fascist judge finds you guilty of 10 misdemeanor charges, with consecutive sentencing, you’re serving five years in prison. That’s more BS brought to us by the vile fascist pig William Rehnquist.
