Good assessment, well worth reading.

My own take (so far) is that the VC/NVA and the Hanoi brain-trust are presented as heroes ... cunning, intelligent, so much smarter than the Americans.
While America and especially the troops are stupid, evil and just not able to keep up with the - oh so superior - North Vietnamese.
And as to the scumbag, cowardly protestors ... they can go eff themselves. They're the real reason we lost the war.

The film casts the antiwar movement in a moderately favorable light. Are the protesters the real heroes here?

The communists in Viet Nam, USSR, and the demonicRAT Party certainly think so.

The media sold out the military. The force disturbance of Liberal BS is strong. Why now? Could NK be the real reason? The Liberal media prepping the ground for a repeat performance?

I served during the Vietnam era...but not in SE Asia.I knew as soon as I heard "Vietnam","Burns" and "PBS" that it would be an absolute travesty.

And it sounds like I wasn't wrong.

Did we expect any different from Kenny “buttboy” Burns?

He probably carried pictures of Uncle Ho through the streets of Boston in ‘68.

Now that the memory of Pol Pot, the mass executions and the re-education camps of Vo Nguyen Giap in South Vietnam, he can come out with a POS rant like this.

Let him explain all of those things away.

I watched last night. Over and over again the vets interviewed said they went into the Marines to serve our country.

They were pretty balanced on the Pro war protests—which we not as large or loud as their opposite parties.

I think no one is going to a good job describing what went on for those years. Hindsight is twenty twenty.

In the end, we need to be careful to maintain support of those serving, while speaking out about being a guy walking around with a hammer, hitting everything. And then trying to rebuild it in our image.

I love the vets and I respect our military very deeply.

I despise the government that sends them to do our dirty work.

Nothing at all new about this series: same old, same old. All they show is the Left's version of history - the South Vietnamese government was inept and corrupt, the enemy were motivated to "reunify" Vietnam (which had never been a single country), and all they show are the battles where we came out poorly.

They'll never show us winning - like Operation Hastings in '66 where we annihilated the NVA 308B Division - and they'll never interview veterans like me who knew exactly why were there, what we had to do, and was willing to suffer what I needed to, to get the job done. They will never show the refugees coming to us rather than the enemy and they'll definitely never discuss the communist pro-enemy connections of the leadership of the "antiwar" movement.

My husband was in the Air Force and stationed in Taiwan. According to him, everybody was using a lot if drugs. Could that have anything to do with the outcome?

Bing West: “We all know the story ends badly. But when it’s over, we aren’t told why we lost.”

We didn't lose.

We left.

Been watching the show and it’s not missing at all.

Also has more on the scheming among the Vietnamese Politburo than I’ve ever seen on TV.

Something I'm sure everyone here already knows, but that infuriates me to no end, is that libs seem to take a smug pleasure in the result of the Vietnam War. I can't recall how many times I've argued with idiots who say, "the US military got its ass kicked a bunch of rice farmers! That's why America lost!"

The military won the war. Washington lost it.

Not watching it. I already lived it, so no need to go back because it is 50 years in the past.

Three things:

• Giap admitted to losing 600,000 – which means it must have been a LOT more. THEY did all the dying.

• Of all the minority Americans who fought in Nam, over 75% were volunteers, NOT draftees. To a man, every one of them did honorable service. To suggest anything else is a slap in the face to all of them.

• When we left there, S Vietnamese in the 10’s of thousands ran to the coast to board the most dangerously unseaworthy craft. They took their lives in their hands to head out into the S China sea to escape the Communists. THESE are the same courageous people who for YEARS-sat still for privation, sacrifice, destruction of their homes, carpet bombing, etc. because it was worth it to save their country and their lives. Knowing the US was out of the fight, they would rather leave and take their chances in the ocean in those flimsy boats, than to stay and be murdered by the Communists.

Facts and statistics mean absolutely nothing to Liberals

Will not argue with what Bing West says on the matter; just wish he had made more clear the nature of our “loss”, at least for the benefit of those who were not even alive at the time.

Our troops did not lose the war on the ground. In fact we decimated the VC and NV and they were no longer able to field an effective combat force - which is why they signed the peace accord in 1973. Our combat troops left in orderly fashion and under no duress.

The “loss” occurred some two years later in 1975, after we left, due in large part to the actions of the communist-enablers and various other opportunists serving in the U.S. government. Most clearly, it was a political loss not at all due to the conduct of our military force.

The “panicked final pullout” he refers to was also somewhat orderly, at least on the part of the U.S. - it was as hurried as that of any embassy staff facing the approach of hostile combat troops, and because of the U.S. effort to evacuate as many SV personnel as possible.

And why are we surprised? I’ve not watched it nor care to. His so-called documentaries are slanted and biased towards liberalism; conveniently leaves out a lot of history that proves otherwise to his thinking.

The war would have ended in 4 to 6 months by invading and taking the North and extending the front across Laos facing China against infiltration from surviving NV troops and the Chinese.

Lame brain and idiot LBJ was wrong. The Soviet Union would not have started a nuke war over Vietnam. They ain’t that stupid.

It would have stabilized the South and the North could have been pacified and the probable reunion of the country, but the US would have to commit troops for an undetermined period to keep the peace.

>They’re the real reason we lost the war.<

Not entirely...the demonrats in Congress, along with not so few Repub’s, were the final reason the war was lost.

When I left, that war was won.
