Relics of the past should be preserved, for the sake of history, art, and future generations. But the current frenzy to demand removal of (and in some cases actually violently destroy) Confederate monuments, and even American monuments threatens to erase large swaths of American history -- noble and deplorable alike.
The arts are certainly not immune to the hysteria. In response to a theater in Tennessee cancelling a showing of Gone With the Wind, because of its insensitivity, New York Magazines Vulture published a piece calling the film, a cinematic monument to the Confederacy. However, Angelica Jade Bastien, the essayist, argued that the film should in fact be preserved. Why? When watching Gone With the Wind, white audiences today who are willing to examine their racist failings must also examine how they specifically propagate the mythology that upholds white supremacy, she reasoned.

Failings...nothing more than failings..
The men of the 1700’s would so ashamed of whatever the h*ll it is that we have become.
Yeah - right after Black Americans face up to theirs... and then La Raza and...
It seems to me that asians, Polynesians and Indians and even hispanics have no problem succeeding in America.
And as for the fake notion of “white privilege” - look at all the white people in trailer parks.
Begone from me you racist bigots - I tire of you.
“-———how they specifically propagate the mythology that upholds white supremacy,
When the sub Saharan nations in Africa become successful, wealthy 1st world countries I’ll re-evaluate my thinking.

It’s ironic that at the end of the Civil War, Lincoln and many of the Union and Southern Generals urged their populations to put the war behind them and forgive each other.
I am tired of this racist, white hatred expressed by these haters. What a bunch of degenerate losers who can’t stand on their own two feet. Their “reparations” should be to be exiled from this wonderful country. Ingrates...losers...uncivilized reprobates.
Anyone who watches Gone with the Wind and thinks it glorifies the South has not watched the Movie. Scarlett does not come out smelling of Roses nor does Ashley.
Agree. It is a story about individual human beings, and every human being. It could be set in any time of conflict in any society undergoing disaster.
Frankly therut, I don’t give a damn. ;-)
A few days ago on a thread concerning some anti Christian diatribe from someone connected with the show “Modern Family”, I remarked on how if Walt Disney were to come back and see that show and other unabashedly anti American and anti family leftist garbage that is produced by a mega corporation bearing his name, he would most likely need to head for the nearest porcelain goddess for prayer purposes.
They didn't see a way to make big bucks by keeping it alive.
This is a downside of a "compassionate" society.
In the Middle East, we have wars that get won by one side, and the losing side declares victory and holds a series of parades.
If the Nazi's had done that in the summer and fall of 1945, they would have been massacred. Their "victory parades" would have been fired upon by heavy machine guns, they would have been strafed from the air.
But because of "compassion," these things don't happen today. The result is, you have cancerous societal thought-viruses — mental malware — that grows and propagates and poisons people and ruins their lives, and there's not a thing that can be done about it. Except to do your best to spread the truth and resist the lies, keep your own mental house in order.
It's a result of "compassion," and mass communications technology that makes it possible to spread lies across the world at the speed of light at essentially zero economic cost.
I am disgusted and sick of this “racist” crap being shoved down our throats. If I love my boss and hate the BLM agitators who beat up people am I racist? Both are black.
One behaves like a decent person the other doesn’t.
That doesn’t make me a racist...that makes me a realist.
Very sick of the whole use of the word and it’s one size fits all connotations to try to intimidate anyone who doesn’t love the left’s latest meme.
I examined them, and they all got passing grades. Do they get participation trophies, too?
But because I am white I am somehow responsible for slavery?
And tell how when my high school promoted a black guy to attend West Point over me, he flunked out of school, I graduated, where is that fair?
So my white ancestors had nothing to do with US Slavery, but now because I am white I am responsible? My white privilege got me 2nd place, I do see where I stopped anyone from getting anything.
There really is no difference between the Left and ISIS.
"White audiences are racist", she says.
Well, I'm white and I'm not racist. So that makes her comment racist.
Reality is racist.
