Republicans on Capitol Hill are surprised and "confounded" that the leader of their party, President Trump, sided with top Democrats in the debt ceiling debate this week, hiking it for three months.
He even earned a bit of rare praise from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Then, Trump twisted the knife even further by taking the advice of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi in regards to DACA. At her urging, the president tweeted out a rather compassionate message for illegal immigrants who currently benefit from the program. They don't have to worry during the six-month delay, Trump told them.
What gives, the GOP wondered.
Trump, hearing the criticism, immediately pounced on the opportunity to send this reminder.
Republicans, sorry, but I've been hearing about Repeal & Replace for 7 years, didn't happen! Even worse, the Senate Filibuster Rule will....— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 8, 2017
...never allow the Republicans to pass even great legislation. 8 Dems control - will rarely get 60 (vs. 51) votes. It is a Repub Death Wish!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 8, 2017
In other words (those that can't fit in a tweet), if Republicans failed so miserably in regards to health care - something they've been screaming about for seven years - how can they be trusted to enact meaningful tax reform and rein in our debt?
A few Republican leaders, who although admit they were taken aback by Trump's reaching out to Democrats, acknowledged that this is an OK short term solution. House Speaker Paul Ryan told the press Thursday that while not ideal, it is "perfectly reasonable and rational."
On Twitter, the president urged Republicans "to start the Tax Reform/Tax Cut legislation ASAP."
"Hurry!"
You miss the point.
Think of the process as a good old fashioned ass chewing by the boss. The problem is not Republicans, but a few recalcitrants who need to be encouraged to toe the line.
what is most important.....America or Planned Parenthood? Well, john you pissed everybody off, are you going to get back in the fold or must we make you cancerous life more difficult?
Trump got his hurricane money and the debt ceiling is not worth fighting over in September 2017.
Sure, make deals with the same people who are drafting articles of impeachment. Makes sense to me. Art Of the Deal. Appease Democrats in hopes of shaming your own party. In the end you get two parties that hates your guts. I guess that’s a form of Bi-partisanship. You don’t deal with terrorists or democrats. It always ends poorly.
“You could be talking about Ryan and McConnell or Schumer and Pelosi.
Trump is a doer. He doesn’t equate talking with accomplishment.
Also remember that he made deals with enemies often - NY government officials, rivals in real estate, etc. You and I would refuse to acknowledge liberals, but Trump deals with them in order to get his end goal.
The Republicans have proven themselves worthless. I don’t think he had many options. I’m willing to see what he has in mind.
Bingo, that’s the bottom line. And Trump doesn’t want to sit on his hands the rest of his term.
Perhaps also he sees the midterms switching power in Congress. With the lackluster performance of the Republicans, it’s a good bet. So he’ll get what he can from the dems.
“You don’t work with the very people who have a vested interest in your destruction.”

Is it Obama holdovers within the DOJ? Or is Trump getting ready to do the same to hordes of left-wing groups, using the non-prosecution of Lerner as precedent?
"Trump and Koskinen are old buddies. I suspect that Koskinen is covering for Trump on taxes, and Trump is leaving the IRS alone in exchange. This is pure speculation on my part, but it fits the behavior."

They'll stab Trump in the back (politically speaking...) at their first opportunity and twist the knife for good measure.
The enemy of my enemy is not my friend. Where's that in "The Art of the Deal?"
“However, Trump’s tweets on DACA are not encouraging, nor is the position he has so far taken”
I agree. And it really angered me at first. But then I decided to be hopeful and see what came of it.
It could be that he’s going to use DACA to get the wall. Do some negotiating and give them something relatively small for something Huge. It won’t make the base perfectly happy but it’ll be better than what we have. Tweeting that Congress needs to get started on legislature hopefully is just him pushing them in starting a bill so his negotiations can begin.
And him supposedly getting asked by Pelosu to tweet something to calm the dreamers down I found that disturbing. However he did add in there that they don’t need to worry for six months. That’s a given since that’s what he already gave them. All he did was verbalize it. Although it might sound comforting, he did warn them they only get six months. Perhaps he doesn’t want them to hide in the shadows so they can be easily found to be deported.
None of this is what I wanted, but then I am getting nothing else because of the RINO Congress. So I will see how it plays out.
You mean the 1s and 0s of virtual "wealth" the Fed and its banskter playmates auction/lend out of their fractional arses?
"COMMERCE BETWEEN MASTER AND SLAVE IS _________"?
After Siding With Dems, Trump Responds to GOP Criticism With a Reminder...
...the Dems suck a whole lot more.
That would be my reminder.
Problem is, these "extensions" never end. It will ALWAYS be something.
They'll bend some on some issues...Obamacare; Trump didn't realize the GOP had no inkling of a replacement plan...And then he found out they lied and never had any intention of replacing Obamacare...
So Trump will get nothing of what he wants on healthcare unless he deals with the Democrats and gets some of what he wants...
While the Republicans are the majority, it's the liberals that control Congress...
Trump out-flanked McConnell and Ryan who sought to damage Trump on Tax reform. Trump is not governing as a Republican or as a Democrat. He is governing to Make America Great Again!
“Maybe this is the bucket of cold water in the face they’ll need to get with it. “
Yup, a bucket of cold water is just what GOPe needed.
Now dems might start believing they can advance their agenda if they’re “nice to Trump”.
Brilliant politics. He’s making the Swamp look stupid and petty.
“He kept that promise, from day one. No fan of McConnell’s, but he did not have to have his teeth pulled on Gorsuch.”
Which now makes me believe Gorsuch will be another Kennedy or Roberts.
The silly Debt Ceiling is just another way for Democrats to berate Republicans.
Has it accomplished anything except given the Democrats Political points?
Gas it stopped one dollar in Federal Spending and adding to the National Debt, one damn dollar?
DACA was a trap set by Obama. Whenever “children” are involved, the Republicans lose. Children are the Democrats Human Shields, and they wield them very effectively.
My primary reason for supporting Donald Trump was the SCOTUS and the other vacant Federal Bench Judicial Appointments. He is doing his best to get those spots filled and doing so sets a Generational trend in the Courts.
The Democrats knew long ago that owning the Courts guarantees their Agenda will be fulfilled, even if Legislation is passed that thwarts it.
Republicans are slow learners. They have allowed the Left to control every facet of our Society, the Constitution be damned.
I disagree with the POTUS on things, but the alternative would have been far worse. Not one of the GOP Contenders would have Won the 2016 Election over Hillary, not a one.
He could, undoubtedly, just blame Congress for not passing a stand alone Harvey bill, but you know darned well the MSM, Democrats, Rinos, NeverTrumpers, et al, would unfairly lay the failure right at HIS feet. His message is loud and clear: “You’re not going to blame YOUR lack of movement on ME!”
Trump needs to next opening ask about new leaders to support in the next elections. Maybe: “Everyone! Get your senators and representatives to act, else find new ones that will. #MAGA”
We don’t have that info. For all we know he has been doing those things and the GOPe has been blocking him or at least dragging their feet so much it equals the same thing.
Nope; I’m not throwing Trump under the bus. Am I happy about what appears to be an alignment with the radicalized left wing? Of course not but I don’t have all the info President Trump has. I don’t know what his options are.
I will say I don’t like it that he appears to be surrounded by leftists in his cabinet and government. I’d feel a lot better if he had voices of reason close to him. Then again he may be on the phone with those people covertly so it only gives the appearance he is listening to leftists. I wish I knew but at this time; I don’t. For all I know; this is a play to box the GOPe weanies in so they have to take action or publicly look like the feckless obstructionist weanies they are.
One thing is for sure; there’s nothing normal or usual about this presidency. Very unconventional. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing; just that it is. We wanted/voted for change and we are getting it.
I am disappointed with the DOJ decision to not prosecute Lois Lerner. The IRS doesn’t blink an eye when prosecuting citizens; why should it be any different when someone within the IRS commits a crime?
