Ellandra,
they should be ok with Jose. If they survived a direct hit from Irma they should be able to survive a peripheral blow from weaker Jose.
To bug out they need to go to the airport and request a change of departure flight to what ever is available to where ever, whenever. But I wouldn’t play that game until after Jose has passed. The airport likely won’t be open until after Jose anyway. So they should find a strong place with water and elevation to ride it out. Then get back on track with departure.
Just like marriage, they need to be flexible and compromise.
That would be a direct hit where my brother and SIL (emergency response team workers) are Broward County. Think Ft. Lauderdale area.
Which resort? We vacation in St. Maarten and are just sick about it.
This is Polk county... Everyone is armed.
NOYB and OT.
Yeah, sister and BIL are evacuating Indian Rocks Beach tomorrow. Mandatory evacuation in Pinellas Zone A which is all the barrier beaches. 150,000 residents. They’re going to a friend’s at Bellair Bluffs at 40’ elevation.
This middle of the state track is bad. Storm surge on both coasts + the water table inland gets pulled up a few feet. That means my place will likely flood at least a foot. Oh, well, my Labradors will have fun.
25 degrees less. NW is 315.
Were about 3-4 miles from St Jons river & we dont live in a flood plain or an evacuation area.
While I hate all the noise a hurricane makes Im not worried about Irma harming our neighborhood.
Somebody is going to get hammered with a track along the spine of the state. Just hope it’s not us. We have a newish build home so hopefully that will help. Some of these older properties with older homes and mobile homes could get cleaned out. This area is gentrifying rapidly. Irma will probably help that along, unfortunately.
South Beach is a pretty large area, though.
What are your contacts saying?
Charley was a 4 when it hit, but became a 1 soon after. If this maintains at a 3 or 4 once it hits land, we’re going to see quite a bit of destruction.
Outside of Summerville. Have offices in Kennesaw, Calhoun & Chattanooga. I’m all over the place.
I figure we will get hit with CAT2 winds if Irma comes right up the middle of the state.
Our house is a very low to the ground stone bungalow as are the majority of homes in our neighborhood. It was built in 1950 so it’s survived all manner of hurricanes over the years. During Matthew last year our power stayed on the whole time. Hopefully this storm will be the same in that regard.
I’m prepared either way.
Stay safe!
I didn’t look through ALL of the 500 posts, but I wanted to add this link because we can watch Irma in relation to the rest of Earth at this link:
https://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/surface/level/orthographic=-86.73,0.45,266
And if I’m not mistaken, looks like there’s yet ANOTHER storm behind Irma! Yikes!
And when Irma gets closer to land, we can see her here:

Prayers Up! Stay safe! :)
My prayers are with you and yours.
Update: My friend made contact with someone in the US Navy who is conducting rescues in St Thomas. He is talking to his CO about extending that to St Maarten.
Steve and Kati are doing what they can. They’re both first-responders, so their skills have been in high demand. They’re trying to organize an evacuation for all the Americans on the island, not just themselves. I may not know Steve all that well, but that is so Kati.
Thanks(!), but actually what I’m curious about is the timing.
Are the highest surge and highest winds more or less coincident?
Thank you the way I see it, we just got to make it through one long day and I am still near his doctors and hospital...I just hope we don’t eat all the junk food before the hurricane gets here...
