President Trump called on Congress to “legalize” DACA late Tuesday, just hours after his administration announced the repeal of the amnesty for children brought to the country illegally — promising that he will “revisit this issue” if Congress does not turn DACA into legislation.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the repeal of the Obama era executive order — known as the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program — both on constitutional grounds and also on principle.
“The effect of this unilateral executive amnesty, among other things, contributed to a surge of unaccompanied minors on the southern border that yielded terrible humanitarian consequences,” Sessions said. “It also denied jobs to hundreds of thousands of Americans by allowing those same jobs to go to illegal aliens.”
The move saw significant opposition from Democrats and voices in the media, while even some Republicans who formerly opposed DACA called for Congress to act to resolve the issue with legislation.
The rollback includes a six-month delay so as to allow Congress to act if it so chose. The White House had expressed hope that the issue could be included as part of a broader immigration legislation package, with Trump tweeting that he hoped to work with Democrats and Republicans for a reform “that puts hardworking citizens of our country 1st.”
But by late Tuesday, Trump appeared to have turned into a paper tiger on the key campaign promise to get rid of DACA, saying he would “revisit this issue” if Congress did not “legalize DACA.”

In my opinion, President Trump’s added statement is brilliant strategy. If Congress decides to punt he will “revisit” by doing exactly what he’s promised & follow through with what Sessions state oh so clearly yesterday.
DACA is RESCINDED!!!
For the same reason why they passed repeal after repeal of Obamacare: Obama wanted it, and they knew that they could make a completely meaningless gesture and Obama would protect them from the consequences. They could look tough on immigration, appeal to some of their base, and the Dreamers would still be here. Well the time for meaningless gestures is over. Now they're on record, and the record will show most of them voting to let the Dreamers stay.

So, if they take the EO, make it a law, and send it to Trump....does he sign it?
DACA is currently rescinded. Will he reinstate it?
No, he has to end it because it was illegal for Obama to do it and it’s illegal for him to continue it. If Congress doesn’t do something, it will end in six months. Revisiting it doesn’t mean he will let it continue. Revisiting could mean a total end to it. Either way, DACA as it is now, will be gone. Congress is the only one allowed to permanently change immigration law. If Congress does something, DACA as it is right now will be stopped and changed and if it’s done correctly, they (illegals) won’t be able to keep doing this in the future. As it is right now, parents can keep sneaking kids in knowing they won’t be deported.
I’m trusting Trump to get what he wants out of this. He has said repeatedly that he sympathizes with kids that were brought here illegally as small children through no fault of their own. That doesn’t mean he thinks it should continue to happen. If these kids are grown, parents must be deported. The kids (some now adults) should also not be allowed to collect any benefits, school loans, voting rights, etc. as long as they aren’t citizens. There are a lot of good ways he can work it and he’s smart enough to get what he wants.

Last week it was a gaggle of people that swore that Trump would never end it.
Now they’ve moved onto the next thing they swear Trump is doing.
I have been critical of Trump on a few issues but I actually think he’s playing Congress here.
I think he’s challenging them to own DACA and put their own asses on the political line and telling them they need to fund the wall.
I’m not sure how much I agree with this strategy but I think that’s where he’s going with it.

You know, if Trump were the master dealer/strategist he claims to be, Harvey and Irma would be the perfect pretext to push his infrastructure bill through.

This is the exact same mistake he made on Obamacare. He didn’t care what he signed as long as he got something to sign.
With no guidance, Congress couldn’t come up with anything.

I agree with Trump’s approach. Make Congress approve the things that Congress is supposed to approve. That means the Obamacare insurance bailout, DACA, and the Obamacare funding for congressional staffers.
The GOPe Congress has gotten away with Obama doing things they wanted by fiat, leaving them free and clear of any responsibility, and giving them plausible deniability.
I am now convinced McCain voted against the Obamacare repeal to give Jeff Flake cover to vote for it. Now that Flake is polling so poorly, he has given up his cover, in hopes the Democrats in Arizona will cross over in the GOP primary and put him back in office.
The emperor has no cloths, but the emperor is the GOPe Congress, not the POTUS.

You don’t need to revisit something that is going to end anyway. He is saying if Congress won’t do the job he will revisit it. This IS TO GIVE HOPE to Dreamers
The very fact that I WILL REVISIT IT is said after telling Congress to do their job and if they don’t he will..means he will take another course if they don’t.
But he can’t...because Sessions said he can’t.

It's no coincidence that this DACA announcement from the White House came just a few days after GOP Rep. Lou Barletta of Pennsylvania -- who has personified the battle against illegal immigration more than anyone else in politics over the last 10+ years -- announced that he'd be challenging incumbent Democrat Bob Casey in the 2018 U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania.
This is where he REALLY needed Steve Bannon to message this. As another poster indicated, he’s managed to completely piss off not only the open borders crowd, but his own base.

They're not on the record, and I predict that they WON'T be on the record. They're never going to vote for anything that lets these "Dreamers" stay unless the bill contains some very punitive measures that ends up encouraging a lot of them to go back home.
