Hurricane Irma Live Thread
NHC/NOAA ^ | NHC/NOAA | NHC/NOAA

While thoughts and prayers are with our Texas FRiends and neighbors, we are at the peak of the Atlantic Tropical Storm season. Hurricane Irma continues its trek from Cape Verde across the pond and toward the Hebert Box (see below). People with interests in the Southeastern U.S. and Gulf of Mexico should be alert to the forecast path updates for this powerful storm. It is important to note that the average NHC track errors are about 175 and 225 statute miles at days 4 and 5, respectively.

Hurricane Irma originally had a small wind field. In the past 24 hours, however, the wind field has expanded with hurriance force winds up to 40 miles from the center, and tropical storm force winds up to 140 miles from the storm center.

FL Governor Rick Scott reminds Floridians: Families should take time today to make sure you have a disaster plan and fully-stocked Disaster Supply Kit. Florida residents from West Palm Beach to Tampa Bay are heeding the alert. Store shelves are emptying of bottled water.

I wonder if a temp that low might be enough to move her north before she gets to Florida. Probably not, as she is still far away.

Prayers for my family, please, all, we have an octogenarian with dementia to care for through this. Hope we don’t lose our home in the meantime.

As the current model run seems to show, we are in line with Miami/Fort Lauderdale almost a direct hit. Prayers please.

Some of us are thinking of evacuating north in the next day or so. Others have to work.

I learned first-hand a few hours ago that hotels on the FL Gulf coast are getting scarce.

My best guess, as things appear now, would be sometime early Friday if they were going to give an evacuation order. Earlier if it takes a turn to the north sooner than expected. Even if it remains offshore in the Atlantic, being that far east would probably still result in an evac order in the storm is a cat 4. Glad you’ve made the choice and plans you have.

Plan to be in Tallahassee by Wednesday night.

The thought of being stuck in on I95 while Irma is bearing down on us is frightening. Thought I wanted to move to Florida. Not so much now.

My sister runs a popular restaurant/bar on Anna Maria Island. Wonder how they will do there?

We are in Port Charlotte just S of Sarasota and relying on FR to collate data. Now considering closing the shutters and going N.

This may be the last night to have a nice glass of wine, relaxing with my sweetie.

Thank you all.

Love the quote!
I’ll go with your forecasts anytime.

The worst thing about hurricanes is TV reporting...” WOW! It’s really really windy..OH MY GOD..DID YOU JUST SEE THAT BRANCH COME RIGHT OFF THAT TREE! OH nooooo, I’m standing in 3 “ of water!
