North Korea openly threatens EMP attack for the first time, changing the game
BY ANTHONY FUREY, POSTMEDIA NETWORK
The news Sunday morning that North Korea had launched what appeared to be its sixth nuclear test and most powerful one to date is troubling enough.
But a statement from the rogue regime took things to a whole new level. The North said it had tested an H-bomb that was a multi-functional thermonuclear nuke with great destructive power which can be detonated at high altitudes for super-powerful EMP (electromagnetic pulse) attack according to strategic goals.
This is the first time it has publicly mentioned its interest and ability in an EMP attack, a devastating weapon that could have catastrophic consequences for North America, the West and their closer neighbours.
An EMP attack, as I detail in my new book Pulse Attack, is a nuclear detonation that occurs in the atmosphere and creates a waveform that can take down the electrical grid below.
In the worst case scenario, this wouldnt just shut off the power for minutes or hours, but weeks or even months, due to serious damage to transformer stations and other integral elements of our power infrastructure.
This wouldnt just mean we couldnt turn on our laptops and televisions; it would shut down our telecommunications, transportation, water systems, our ability to get food to cities and much more.

You make excellent points and I stand corrected.
I think this is why Trump has surrounded himself with generals to the exclusion of campaign populists like Bannon.
He knows we may be forced to mount a devastating attack on North Korea to remove the threat, probably requiring the use of nuclear weapons.
The idea that we can allow the one-man dictatorship of North Korea to build large numbers of ICBMs tipped with hydrogen bombs targeted on dozens of US cities and rely on the deterrence of mutually-assured destruction as we did with the very rational old Russian men who ruled the old Soviet politburo seems like wishful thinking.
Remember, we learned after the fall of the Soviet Union that the Soviets never shared nuclear weapons technology with Mao because Mao actually contemplated fighting a nuclear war and winning it, willing to lose hundreds of millions of his own citizens if necessary in order to destroy the US.
And remember that Fidel Castro encouraged the Soviet Union to launch missiles against the United States.
In North Korea, people are taught to hate the United States from the moment of birth. The propaganda and teaching is aimed at demonizing Americans, and they like to show North Korean soldiers killing blue-eyed American soldiers in their propaganda.
Their doctrine is that the USA is a cancer on the world. (Not unlike part of our own leftwing media/academy complex which teaches that white people are a cancer on the world.)
What if Kim wakes up one day in a certain mood, feeling very emotional over one thing or another, and decides to sacrifice his own country to rid the world of this cancer, the US? Knowing that China will be there to carry on?
And how would China react? Would they be willing to undergo extreme economic hardship in the short term from the destruction of their American market knowing that at the end of the day lies Chinese dominance of the world?
I appreciate what you are saying, but we can’t put this off any longer.
If we have downside now, it’s better than having it two years from now when Kim has 20-30 massive kiloton bombs aimed at us also.
We have to neuter this threat now.
There may be hell to pay, but it won’t be hell to the 1,000th power, like it would be a few years from now.
Vladivostok is a naval port in Russia, not North Korea.
Sorry, I don’t understand what you are saying??...I did not say anything about the port being in North Korea...
The article is discussing the evacuation of RUSSIANS NEAR THE NORTH KOREAN BORDER. If you actually read the headline and article and look at the map in article, the port is in Russia and it is near North Korea...so I don’t understand what you are saying...
Please clarify your post.
Reading One Second After makes it hard to sleep soundly. That scenario, devastating the US with an anonymous EMP strike from a cargo ship in the Gulf of Mexico, I feel will eventually happen. There’s no MAD retaliation to deter it. Better to deal with the Koreans, Iranians and probably Pakistanis now. MAD has worked well for six decades but will soon be obsolete.
Absolutely agree.
It is time to use the god rod.
And hundreds of thousands of Seoul’s residents will be dead.
Not saying we shouldn’t do it.
Just gotta do it with your eyes wide open.
I remember that. I can’t figure them out.
Just take a good long look at the national military stations-navy and other, on the west coast of this nation. A EMP directed to damage the area would in fact do massive damage to the infrastructure there.
The military bases would survive since they are shielded for this, but the civilian infrastructure would collapse. These bases rely on civilian supply for those bases. Trains, trucks, distribution centers, airports, gas, fuel and water supplies, all would be damaged. All computer systems would fail which these systems rely on to run.
In all fairness, I’ve been here a few years and haven’t you always been screwed, literally and figuratively. just saying.
Altitude and magnitude are key. The higher up it is, and the bigger yield it has, the worse the effect. We did several above ground and low altitude tests, and even then there was an EMP effect, but it gets worse the higher in the atmosphere you go.
Remember when people used to raise this possibility and everyone would pile on,screaming that they were a conspiracy theorist and didn’t understand science..?
for me that seems like yesterday.
China needs to understand that Beijing and Shanghai will be held responsible for the actions of Kim.
Nuke Pyongyang, Beijing and Shanghai as necessary, but all three at the same moment.
Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) occurs as a result of a nuclear explosion, lightning, solar flares, or on a very small scale, the arc that occurs when flipping on a light switch. It is a rapid burst of energy in a very short timeframe that generates electrical and magnetic waves that can induce enough voltage into unprotected electronics to cause damage. The “weaponized” type EMP requires deployment in the stratosphere where the burst of gamma rays ionizes free electrons that interact with the earths magnetic field to make the effect stronger than at lower altitudes. There have been extensive studies done to estimate the impact of EMP attacks on the US - search “Starfish Prime” for starters.
When is Bill Clinton going to be arrested for giving China nuke and MIRV technology for campaign cash? Isn't that straight out treason?
If one American ever dies at the hands of NK or China, you can lay it directly on Bill Clinton. Of course Hillary didn't know./s
IMO, things don’t get better from here.
If I thought five years from now we would be free from Kim threatening us, and his nuclear program would be gone, I’d say hold off.
We know that isn’t going to happen.
He is going to build. Whoever is helping him is going to continue to do so.
We have nothing to gain by waiting. There may be downside if we attack, but the downside farther down the road will be exponentially worse.
The advice from Napoleon may be wise. I can’t think that waiting any longer now is.
Will we have fewer people at risk two, three, or five years down the road? No. We’ll have many more people at risk.
The soviets had lost tens of millions to wars and didn’t want to have their top ten cities destroyed. NK and Iran are fanatics. Iran believes they have a moral obligation to bring about the end of the world. kim is dog shit crazy. We can’t hesitate anymore because they are fanatics and should be taken fat their words.
emergency meeting of UN security council tomorrow. maybe we will get coverage of Melania’s wardrobe
