Frustration Mounts Over Premiums for Individual Health Plans
KOB4 ^ | September 03, 2017 | RICARDO ALONSO-ZALDIVAR

Millions of people who buy individual health insurance policies and get no financial help from the Affordable Care Act are bracing for another year of double-digit premium increases, and their frustration is boiling over.

Some are expecting premiums for 2018 to rival a mortgage payment.

What they pay is tied to the price of coverage on the health insurance markets created by the Obama-era law, but these consumers get no protection from the law's tax credits, which cushion against rising premiums. Instead they pay full freight and bear the brunt of market problems such as high costs and diminished competition.

Put half that money into savings each month you will probably do very well.

You would like to think that but then they’ll come up with the single-payer and they’ll sell it and people vote for it.

Your VA must be the exception because in my travels the VA has provided substandard care everywhere I have seen it ( Dallas, Boston, Miami, Richmond Virginia and Temple Texas).

I wish POTUS would just reverse every single regulation that has been enacted to make Obamacare “work”.

Also agree. President Trump is surrounded by people with no balls. They keep saying "I wouldn't say that" or "too strong a reaction, go easy" or some other appeasing crap. President Trump just needs to ditch every support beam under Obamacare to make it collapse.

Just for fun check out most of the (R)’s FEC filings. Big money from insurance companies.

President Trump is surrounded by people with no balls.

How long is that story believable? Contrast that with the image he and the media presented of him during the campaign.

Every time I see the leftist media showing some sad-sack American telling the world how Obamacare saved them, I want to go out, find them, knock on their door, and personally tell them - thank ME, because I’m paying $5000 more a year since 2014 to fund YOU.

Yes, I know the VA has HUGE problems across the land. I use the William S. Middleton Hospital in Madison, WI.

They are connected to the University of Wisconsin which is also top-notch and one of the BEST research hospitals in the entire USA. If the VA can’t fix you, they send you to the UW.

Some of the VA hospitals definitely need fixing.

I use WJ Bryan Dorn VA hospital in Columbia, SC and could not be happier. I suspect that the situation in other areas may not be the same though.

I’m in North Carolina. The only individual policy provider is Blue Cross Blue Shield. For me and my husband (non smokers, ages in late 50s) our combined premium is 2300 per month with 5000 deductible each. Can’t wait to see what our increase for next year is.

I almost wound up in South Carolina but here I am in Texas. The Palmetto State is very lovely, much better than the Carolina to the north.

Dreadful.

Silly question——is the $5000.00 deductible annual?

“Those that thought private polices were not going to be affected by Obamacare, weren’t paying attention.”

You can only hope the majority of the are democrats.

Until Hubby aged into Medicare last year our private insurance for 2 people was $1400 per month. More than our mortgage.

“I’m in North Carolina.”

I’m also in NC. Early 60’s. Monthly premium for bronze plan is $2150. Deductible for each of us $7150 and the plan stacks them so we have to meet the combined deductible before the plan pays. Before every year since O’care started our insurer has dropped out of the market and we’ve had to buy from a new insurer.

Prior to O’care we had a catastrophic plan with Aetna. Our monthly premium was $630 and our deductible was $5000 each, not stacked. The catastrophic plan paid 100% after the deductible was met.

My two GOP Senators and GOP Congresswomen aren’t lifting a finger and Trump isn’t lifting a finger to address the situation because we who are paying the full boat are subsidizing others. It is a hidden tax we cannot deduct.

Unfortunately I believed at one time the Republicans would repeal O’care if they took control of both houses of Congress and the executive branch. Now it is clear to me they have no intention of repealing and are happy with the $25,000 a year in premiums I’m paying. I will vote accordingly going forward. Since I have only one choice, Blue Cross, I’m already on single payer. Better to vote for Democrats who will require everyone to move to single payer and share my pain at a lower cost than to continue with the current situation.

Time to ensure your health with a proper diet and lifestyle.

I haven’t bought “health insurance” since my grand children’s parents were in grade school (30+ years ago)

“Single Payer” = nothing plus higher taxes and an early death.
