As the violence in Charlottesville has reignited a national debate over monuments dedicated to Confederate-era and other controversial figures, New York City is conducting its own review over "symbols of hate" and possibly taking aim at Christopher Columbus. New York City Mayor Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced a 90-day review by a commission of all "symbols of hate" on city property in the wake of violence at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, that was protesting the planned removal of a statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee. The move has opened questions about a variety of monuments in the city, including a 76-foot statue of Christopher Columbus in the heart of Manhattan's Columbus Circle. City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito said on Monday she thought Columbus' history and treatment of indigenous people in Caribbean "has to be looked at." I will wait for the commission, as I said Christopher Columbus is a controversial figure to many of us particularly in the Caribbean and I think that that has to be looked at, when you have to look at history we have to look at it thoroughly and clearly," she said. "I know some people may take offense to that but for many of us that come from the Caribbean islands, we see him as a controversial figure," she added. Her remarks came during a rally calling for the removal of another statue, that of J. Marion Sims, a surgeon heralded as some as father of modern gynecology but whose breakthroughs came from experimenting on black slaves without anesthesia.

First they came for the Confederate monuments and I remained silent....So what's to stop these a**holes from demolishing the Holocaust museums and destroying their artifacts because they offend the tender sensibilities of their Islamic comrades-in-arms. They're also a bunch of BDS-holes. Even that dumb b*tch Merkel hasen't contemplated destroying what's left of Auchwitz, at least for the time being.
mohammed was pro slavery.
Lets see if they truly oppose slavery.
It’s not important to me that Columbus is given credit for discovering the Americas. There are other claims to the discovery all the way back 10,000 years.
He is one of several who could stake a claim in semi-modern times, and it doesn’t bother me that we celebrate his achievement.
What bothers me is the knee-jerk (emphasis on jerk) people who are angered that he is given some recognition.
His achievement against long odds was real. He hadn’t discovered the back route to India he thought he would, but a mistaken discovery was still a discovery.
It certainly doesn’t damage anyone, the fact that he did this. Sooner or later Europeans were going to come to the Americas, and sooner or later the negative impacts of disease were going to happen.
People are explorers. Who knew?
People who get upset at the idea Columbus gets some positive recognition are simply ‘freaks’.
The leftist/progressive state that the protests against Confederate Memorials and for their removal are for two main reasons
1. They were traitorous rebels who seceded from the union
2. They supported slavery
Yet these same leftist/progressives grandly and publically support:
1. The California secessionist movement (Calexit)
2. Islam
To include the founder, Mohamed, who was a slave hunter, slave trader, sex slave trader and child slave trader.
To include the holy books (Koran and Hadith) of Islam which have specific holy instructions on how to take slaves, how to trade slaves, how to keep slaves and how to rape slaves.
Why are there no protests at Calexit meetings and at Mosques? Why are leftist/progressive so supportive of these secessionist and slavery movements?
We all know the reasons.
These protests and their largely sympathetic press coverage have nothing to do with healing or cleansing our past of sins or Slavery or secessionists.
They are temper tantrums and a way to delegitimize to the legally elected president.

An Unofficial Guide to the Exhibit
Take the 68th Street subway exit on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and walk over to Park Avenue. Two blocks north, on the street divider in the middle of four lanes of heavy traffic, a 10-foot-high steel sculpture of a Mao jacket greets you. Then on the building to the right is a big banner with a drawing of Mao Tsetung surrounded by images of workers, soldiers and youth marching with red flags, Red Books and rifles. This is the outside introduction to a new exhibit at the Asia Society Museum titled: Art and Chinas Revolution.
In the next couple of months, tens of thousands of drivers will zoom past the huge Mao jacket, prompting many to do a double take. It will jog some peoples memories back to the 60s when millions of people around the world, including here in the United States, looked to socialist China as a truly liberating society. For some it might bring to mind Andy Warhols pop-art image of Mao, which you occasionally still see on t-shirts and greeting cards.
After being bombarded by decades of being told that communism is dead, most people who drive or walk by will probably consider these artistic references as icons of the failure of socialism. But for those who actually go through the revolving glass doors of the museum and see the exhibit, this can be an opportunity to examine and think more about what Mao and the Cultural Revolution and socialism are really all aboutand to look at, and reconsider, the accepted wisdom on the effect this historic struggle had on art and artists; and in turn, the role art and artists played in this historic struggle. ..."

Same organization (RevCom.us) put out this regarding the recent controversies...
Keep in mind as you're reading that Mao Zedong murdered many millions more people than did the Nazi Hitler, by a factor of at least 3.

Around 100 racists rallied in Charlottesville, Virginia, on the night of Saturday, May 13. They railed against the citys plans to remove a statue of Confederate general Robert E. Leewho led a war to defend and expand the enslavement of Black peoplefrom a public park. The crowd carried torches that evoked a KKK lynch mob, and chanted We [white people] will not be replaced and Blood and Soil (a slogan from the Nazi German regime that carried out the genocidal slaughter of six million Jews and millions of other people in the mid-20th century). ..."

Until, we see a call for Islamic symbols to be removed, these people cannot be taken seriously, instead they are hypocrites and no better than Isis who wishes destroy historical records that document the wests growth from tribalism to a fredom, unlike the Muslim symbolism which the left defends and wont call ever for removal, to the contrary they are Islam's biggest supporters outside the Arab world.
how about if ‘leaders’ listen to the American people for a change: 94% of which believe it’s better to learn from history than try to erase history, 90% believe leaving Mt. Rushmore alone is the right thing to do, and 88% believe statues of founders shouldn’t be removed.
Another one where the jokes practically write themselves.
So what happens when de Blasio is considered a symbol of hate? He definitely qualifies in my opinion.
You fail to mention the Statue of Liberty, which likely will be considered a symbol of hate. Course, it is federal park land and they might not be able to tear it down so quickly.
These foolish Leftists can be summed up thus:
Hi, I am an ignorant, spoiled, narcissistic, anarchistic, cool, hip, Woodstock wannabe, Marxist, privileged, entitled whatever and I believe the time has come to tear down all the hate symbols committed by my ancestors because I have a guilt complex. Besides, I want to be seen as a cutting edge radical against the “system”.
Those that disagree with our agenda must be silenced at all costs for I stand for freedom and free expression, peace, love and dope...
Isn’t pronouncing the statues “symbols of hate” beforehand a bit prejudicial to the outcome of any review? Columbus is a major historical figure with major accomplishments regardless of any negative aspects he may have had. Furthermore, I doubt anyone ever intended the statues to be a symbol of hate. And I guess Italian Americans are not allowed by the left to be proud of their heritage...
Columbus brought Christianity to the Americas. His first act was to pray with a priest when they set foot on the island beach. The ultimate goal of the leftists is to eradicate the moral culture that our society is based upon so it is natural that Columbus is their enemy.
At present the largest hate mouthpieces in America are CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, ABC, and ESPN. There are more but these come to mind. Let’s have the “hate speech” debate and let’s identify the haters by name.
A Whole New World: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Nope: Its “ a “Brave New World”
We have idiots whop WANT totalitarian government to acheive their Utopia.
And they are also arming themselves.

You speak from knowledge of history and common sense. The people doing these things do not know history and do not care for it or for common sense. Further more, most of them are probably high on whatever substance they can get their hands on. They have one goal and that is to break and destroy things and the people who do not look or act like them. That includes the laws of their country, their city, their neighborhood and anywhere they live. If they could accomplish that, their victory would last only a week or two until stronger people, perhaps from another nation, would intercede to restore order. Then you would have dictatorship but, at least, the crazies who started it all would be gone.
A word to the wise: if you’re in the Philadelphia area and you want to visit Constitution Center and then inside of that Signers Hall
(where life-sized statues of the signers of the Declaration of Independence stand) you’d better get there soon because I have a feeling this will be the next target for the unhinged left.

You are SO right! To stop the hate and biased reporting, it has to be exposed for what it is. News presented from the personal bias of the reporter is not news but propaganda. Today, Drudge has a headline telling us that, finally, a person of respect in the media, has stood up to oppose such reporting in his own newspaper, the Wall Street Journal. He has called out the reporters there who want to increase the bashing of President Trump from their own bias and, essentially has told them to stop or find employment elsewhere. Do you want to “shout out” for that good man? I do and I suspect millions of others do, as well. All of the news outlets you mentioned want to report that 2+2=5 and to not have any opposition to that falsehood so they can achieve what they believe is the reality they want. First, however, they have to use the force of journalistic fascism to achieve that. As a country, we are not there, yet. It is past time when the “hate speech” exposure should have taken place. The difficulty is that such a thing has to occur from within the media itself. Many more need to stand up and be counted, as the editor of the WSJ has done. If that could happen, America would stand with them.
Joe Piscopo 12 noon rally @ City Hall today. NYers come out!! Don’t mess with Columbus statue!
There should be statues in addition to the historical Columbus making the facts broader in scope to include (for example) The Norse, Erik the Red, the Berber sailing out of Tarshish, the Asians sailing down the West Coast into South America (et al)
How about a Clovis statue? Keep in mind that nobody really “discovered” America they just sort of stumbled upon a couple of additional continents occupied by migrations long past, lower tech but adventurers nonetheless.
Maintaining that the Oceans weren’t an obstacle, but that the oceans were the conduit (in highway)!
What Will they do about the Columbus Day Parade?
