As the 4 p.m. non-waiver trade deadline grew closer Monday, baseballs championship contenders pushed their final chess pieces into position. In the preceding days, the Rockies made a move for catcher Jonathan Lucroy, the Royals for Melky Cabrera, and the Yankees for Todd Frazier, Tommy Kahnle and Jaime Garcia.
Entering the day, rumors swirled about Sonny Gray, Zach Britton and Yu Darvish, three top-notch pitchers generally regarded as the best available.
Britton stayed. And at the very last moment, Darvish moved, about half an hour after Gray did.
Heres what went down, team by team.

Here’s a quarter, call someone who cares. Just why is this “breaking news?” So we get to read here on an adult blog about this year’s crop of overpaid a$$holes who throw a ball for a living!
Years ago the trade deadline was June 15th. Now it’s July 31st. When did it change and why did they change it?
Why did you click on the thread? Baseball fans are interested and many will appreciate the post.
YAWN.
Used to be a huge baseball fan, still love to play softball, but when the greedy players expected us to blame the greedy owners and canceled the World Series in 1994, I’d had enough.

someone holding a gun to your head and making you read this...?
I was a huge baseball fan, and I also stopped watching after the 94 strike. It didn't hurt my feeling that they struck; but it went on for so long that by the time baseball started up again, I found I wasn't interested. A couple of years ago, I started watching the Astros again (I live in the Houston area), and have gotten back into the sport again. The lack of interest I had for baseball all those years has transferred to football. I was already losing interest in it, but when the NFL got political and allowed the players to turn the NFL into BLM, I bailed on them entirely. The only sports I watch now are Astros baseball and the PGA Tour.
They changed it in 1986 due to divisional play and playoffs. Now that they avhe wildcards, some people are advocating that they move it even later.
Texas traded Yu Darvish? Wasn’t he their best pitcher? Now the Dodgers have to clearly be a favorite.
Yes, just a minute or two before the deadline.
LA also picked up two lefty relievers. But their rotation has had health issues all year and we’ll see if Watson and Cingrani can be the bridge to Kenley Jansen, because that’s been one of the Dodgers’ weaknesses so far this season.
Thanks for sharing. While doing painting around the house last month, I caught most of the all-star game for the first time in a long time. Great game, but I still wouldn’t give up anything in order to watch a game anymore.
Darvish wasn't all that good.
He is an adult with no free will apparently.
In Darvish’s last start for Texas against Miami on July 26, he gave up 10 earned runs in 3.2 innings. Darvish is overrated, but the Dodgers are desperate for starting pitching due to Kershaw’s injury.
They're already up 40 games over .500. How much more of a a favorite can they be? LOL. But don't worry...the Nationals will take care of them in the Championship series.
I agree!
Don’t forget about the Cubbies, looks like now they’re finally playing with a sense of urgency.
I think he posted it just to piss you off. looks like it worked!
I can't forget them. The way they're playing it looks like it will be Washington and Chicago in the Divisional Series. Washington needs Strasburg and Scherzer to get well fast.
