Multiple Republican senators broke with President Trump on Wednesday after he announced on Twitter than transgender troops would be banned from serving in the military.
In separate statements, GOP Sens. John McCain (Ariz.), Joni Ernst (Iowa), Richard Shelby (Ala.), and Orrin Hatch (Utah) all criticized Trump for his decision that Obama-era rules allowing transgender troops to serve would be reversed.
McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, ripped the call and said that Trump shouldn't be making policy announcements via tweet.
The Presidents tweet this morning regarding transgender Americans in the military is yet another example of why major policy announcements should not be made via Twitter," McCain wrote in his statement.
The statement was unclear," he added. "The Department of Defense has already decided to allow currently-serving transgender individuals to stay in the military, and many are serving honorably today. Any American who meets current medical and readiness standards should be allowed to continue serving."
"There is no reason to force service members who are able to fight, train, and deploy to leave the military regardless of their gender identity."

Probably because of the deletrious effect on morale, combat readiness and America's defense.
The usual suspects.
He knows that. James Comey is the Commander-In-Chief. [/sarc]
When we are against the wall, it'll be all hands on deck, so to speak, and it won't matter if you're a 4ft male or a 7ft female, it won't matter if you are 70 years old, have coke-bottle glasses, a limp, a stutter, hypertension, diabetes, and irritable bowel syndrome. If you can hold a gun or stop a bullet protecting someone who can hold a gun, you'll be needed.
Thankfully, we are not at that point. I have no trouble with the military deciding the qualifications for service. (I'm still not clear what special skill was missing from our volunteer male force that necessitated accepting women, but I'm a dinosaur.)
So the real news is only four Republicans broke with Trump, nowhere near the 2/3 or 67 votes it would take to force through legislation overturning the ban and overriding a veto....
The Constitution makes the President Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. I would assume that means he can set policy without Congressional approval. After all, did Truman get Congressional approval before integrating the military?
More like "eunuchs" The female Democrats have more balls than Rinos. These Republicans have no balls.
Dear Senator John "Fake War Hero" McCain:
I hope this letter finds you well, and your cancer treatment progressing successfully.
The U.S. Department of Defense is an agency of the executive branch of the U.S. government. As such, it comes under my authority as the President of the United States and the Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces. It does not come under the authority of a corrupt U.S. Senator and failed presidential candidate from Arizona.
Sincerely,
President Donald "Covfefe" Trump
P.S. -- I'll send out my policy directives to the agencies under my authority however I damn well please.
P.P.S. -- Make America Great Again!!
The commander in chief (President Trump) has the final say in this matter.
If the commander in chief says that there will be no accommodation for transsexuals in the military, then that’s it, end of discussion.
The military follows his orders, and the leftists are SOL.
If the DOD brass have a problem with that, then they can resign their commission, and make a plea to the 60+ million Americans who voted for President Trump.
Shut Up McCain, you did not need to even open your stupid trap about this, but you did...
Remember ‘Songbird’ you were the one stupid enough to fall for a russian prostitute fake story...
Mostly Senators who have nothing to lose.
Mission readiness and budget should be primary over feelings.
Easy to preach from their ivory tower. In a just world we could wave a wand and make all Senate bathrooms unisex.
Good for the prez! 0b0z0’s in-your-face EOs to the military and the country were appalling. Reversing them is appalling to the commies. Fine with me.
One thing that worries me, some of the GOPe Senators may ‘collude’ to switch to dems and give the Senate to the commies just to get back at Trump.
It only takes three. Two of them were a no-vote for bringing the HC repeal to the floor of the Senate. They would be the media heroes who McPain will defend and give cover.
With schmukie Schumer as Majority Leader, an even ‘softer coup’ would be executed.
I absolutely agree with you. And, how many have now, just gone into the military, only for the sake of having some disability time and all of the surgery and hormones paid for by us? It is ridiculous, and a huge insult to all who have honorably served and sacrificed for us.
“Some of these Senator are going to get blow back.”
Yeah, Linseed Graham said he wasn’t too worried about that.
Thank god Trump did that. I don’t cosign the left’s transgender BS either. That emperor has no clothes.
Guys (humans with a wiener) that want to dress as women are, well, a bit weird, but whatever. I don’t get it, but they don’t bother me much.
But when you do that, and actually think you ARE a woman, that’s irrational. It means the dude is mentally Ill. There’s a diagnosis for it: gender dysphoria. Dude needs serious mental help.
Either way, he/she/it doesn’t belong in the military, period. It’s disruptive as hell, and not conducive to cohesion or unity during times of great stress, like war. And yeah, I’m ex military.
Kick them all out, let the chips fall where they may.
Where did you come up with that stat? What about those who have gone thru the entire surgical process?
I have no problem with a guy that feels he should be a she.
I have a problem with people with mental illnesses being in the military.
but if they want to live as anything other then a guy and do any of the medical treatments they are in the wrong place.
I assume by the wrong place, you mean the military. I could care less what they do in other walks of life. But that is not the issue or subject of this thread.
McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, ripped the call and said that Trump shouldn’t be making policy announcements via tweet.
