President Trump has floated the possibility of replacing Attorney General Jeff Sessions with his steadfast ally Rudy Giuliani to serve in the top Justice Department post, Axios reported Monday.
Trump broached the idea in internal discussions about bringing in and surrounding himself with staunch supporters, sources within the West Wing told the news outlet.
Before The New York Times interview last week, Trump had already expressed anger and frustration at Sessions for recusing himself from the Russia investigation, Axios reports.
Trump, during the interview, opined that Sessions' decision to recuse himself was "unfair" to him and he would've likely picked another person to lead the Justice Department if he had known this is the move Sessions would make.
In a tweet on Monday, Trump went after Sessions, calling him beleaguered and questioned why the attorney general and federal investigators are not looking into Hillary Clinton for her crimes and ties to Russia.

"To enforce the law and defend the interests of the United States according to the law; to ensure public safety against threats foreign and domestic; to provide federal leadership in preventing and controlling crime; to seek just punishment for those guilty of unlawful behavior; and to ensure fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans."
An AG with integrity would not allow the President to use the DOJ against his political enemies. In the military, they call it command influence.
doesn’t help that right after the election, Trump himself said he’s not going after Clinton..that they were “good people” and that Hillary had “been thru enough”...i really think he was naive and thought they were gonna give him a fair shot after the election. Sure wish he’d govern like he campaigned....
I doubt it. Sessions has it all over Guiliani.
How do you know there isn’t an ongoing Clinton investigation going on right now? The DOJ as a rule does not announce those things.
Giuliani is not the answer.
Anyone who thinks he will go after Hillary is badly mistaken.
He had a chance in 2000 to challenge her for the Senate — he dropped out of that race and basically gave it to her.
He had a chance to challenge her in 2008 but had to withdraw due to a lack of interest on the voters’ part.
“New York City liberals”
Giuliani is very conservative on law and order issues. The crime rate in NY dropped like a rock when he was mayor.
That’s exactly what I was thinking!
FWIW, Trump has expressed that Sessions should have know then, that the campaign was going to be investigated, and that he (Sessions) would not be able to squelch that, becuase, as being part of the campaign, he would have the appearance of being partial so would either follow the conflict regulation, or flout it. If he knew that risk, Trump would have picked somebody else.
I like Rudy but he is getting old. He was starting to get the 1000 yard stare during interviews on occasion towards the end of the campaign. That and he’d never get approved. There’s GOT to be at least one good State AG or Prosecutor that would like to clean up DC.
For one thing, he’s not supposed to hold a press conference to announce that an investigation is underway. Read the letters from Sessions and Rosenstein outlining the reasons why Comey was fired.
Sessions knows more in his little finger than Guiliani will ever know.
“The idea of recusing oneself for ANYTHING”
Yes. That and EVER appointing a Special Prosecutor for ANYTHING either. When Obama took office in 2008, there was speculation he was involved with Blagojevich in ‘selling’ his Senate seat and wanting to install Valarie Jarret there. OBAMA’S OWN ADMIN INVESTIGATED THEMSELVES AND FOUND NO WRONGDOING. I wouldn’t be sad if Sessions were to be booted. He hasn’t yet stood for anything Trump has wanted. Can you just imagine if the Trump Admin would be ‘allowed’ to investigate themselves, instead of having a bunch of partisan Dems looking into EVERYTHING Trump was ever involved in???
Sessions isnt in charge of deporting anyone. That is DHS, not DOJ. His sanctuary city policy so far is all talk.
I understand how supportive sessions has been of trump. That is why so many trump Sessions supporters have been so disappointed in Sessions. He had no problem in the Senate speaking out about every illegal Obama action. Now that he has the power to actually do something about it? Crickets. Blaming democrat obstruction only goes so far. NO ONE is obstructing Sessions from directing investigations or prosecutions.
“sources” say
Personally, I’m thinking there are some “major doings” going on in the DOJ involving some high profile folks and their criminal acts. I do believe Trump was upset with Sessions for recusing himself & not telling Trump first; however, that was some time ago. The first thing I thought when Trump ‘went after’ Sessions this last time was that he’s throwing red meat, not just cheese, at the media so they’re reporting “Trump unhappy with Sessions, Sessions to be replaced”, etc. & in the meanwhile, Sessions is building (legal) coffins & getting out the hammer & nails to fasten down the lids for certain people. Sessions didn’t get where he got by being a wuss and Trump rewards loyalty .... those two things don’t add up to what’s been reported by the media lately, IMO. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong, but I’m a ‘glass half full’ person at this point & I “expect the unexpected” where Trump is concerned .... & when Bannon (in particular) or whoever in the admin tells you “on it”, I believe them. :-)
“When strong, appear weak.”
Who the hell are the “West Wing sources”????
Totally disagree. Your philosophy is an excuse for inaction.
You don't know the answer to that? Trump ruled it out back in November.
Trump will not pursue investigaion of Hillary
I never recall so many Freepers not knowing that facts, or ignoring the facts, as in the case of why an investigation of Hillary has not been pursued.
“Now, he has given up a Senate seat where he was incredibly effective”
Incredibly effective at WHAT exactly?
