Attorney General Jeff Sessions says he plans to stay in role, despite Trump’s comments about him

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Thursday that he plans to stay in his job despite the president’s public assertion that he would not have nominated Sessions to the post had he known that he would recuse himself from the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

At a news conference ostensibly meant to announce the takedown of an illicit online marketplace, Sessions said he had the “honor of serving as attorney general,” and he planned “to continue to do so as long as that is appropriate.” Asked how he could keep working, having apparently lost President Trump’s confidence, Sessions responded: “We’re serving right now. The work we’re doing today is the kind of work that we intend to continue.

“I’m totally confident that we can continue to run this office in an effective way,” Sessions added.

On Wednesday, the New York Times published an article about an interview with Trump in which the president said he would not have appointed Sessions attorney general had he known Sessions would recuse himself from the investigation into whether the Trump campaign coordinated with Russia to influence the 2016 election.

Smokescreen, so Sessions can get the job done.

Takes the focus OFF of him.

I'm going to wait and see what happens. Because I remember that Trump is more intelligent than the MSM and that he plays a complicated game.

So I will keep my powder dry and hold my fire.

This isn't done, or anyway close to being over.

“I don’t agree. There is nothing in his background or character that would suggest Sessions is not honorable.”

He is indeed an honorable man just not right for the job.A fine, distinguished old school southern gentleman against the DC establishment? Mismatch...we need a knife fighter.

You are right The FBI works behind the scenes until something is ready for disposition.

We still know nothing of the "behind the scenes" even though we listened to Comey's testimony. All Comey said was he talked with "anonymous" FBI people.

I do think Comey committed a crime when he "leaked". But you have to wait on that lest you jump the gun.

I’d like to believe there is a game plan going on between Trump and Sessions.

Otherwise it’s ugly.

I'd like to have believed there was a game plan going on with Trump and Paul Ryan regarding TrumpCare. Or a game plan when Trump was trashing and bashing House conservatives. There wasn't a game plan.

And it was ugly.

Yep. And where are those indictments? Last I checked Bill, Hillary, Huma, Podesta, Comey, Lynch and Obama are still free.

And each day, week and month that passes only makes it that more difficult to garner public interest into rectifying their crimes and scandals.

They ‘look the other way’ (actually bury their head in the ground) when it comes to Hillary and Bill Clinton. BUT.. when it comes to TRUMP, they give conduct anal exam to see if there’s any Russians hiding.

#22: "I just do not see any evidence of this 3D chess game Trump is playing"

Correct. There never was any 3D chess game.

“see if there’s any Russians hiding.”

On the elevator TV this morning it said Mueller was expanding the investigation to include Trump’s business transactions. Haven’t seen it anyplace else.

have re-commit his recusal including the statue that is supposedly it fell under as if any them would EVER reicuse.

I believe that was internal policy not statute.

I know this, he accepted the post KNOWING the President would not appoint him per ‘Recusal’. That is dishonorable.

The situation is so screwed up now it is hard to say whether his leaving would change things. There were to courses that Sessions should have taken. 1. He should have clearly anticipated the ongoing Russian witch hunt on the Hill. Knowing this and with his belief (though misplaced) that he was conflicted out of managing the matter on behalf of the President, he should have refused to take the job. 2. If he only realized his supposed conflict after being appointed, he should have promptly resigned since he was unable to fulfill his duties on behalf of the President.

” Do your job Sessions like you said today. Doing your job is at least hiring a special counsel to investigate the criminal Democrats. Quit making excuses.”

EXCELLENT SUGGESTION........Hillary’s criminality is legendary.

Does Sessions really work for the GOPe? A special prosecutor exploring Clinton & Obama crimes would make the impeachment of Trump unlikely.
