The first four days of legal recreational marijuana sales generated $3 million in sales revenue and about $500,000 in tax revenue, putting Nevada on pace to achieve an estimated $30 million in sales revenue over the next six months of recreational sales, according to the Nevada Dispensary Association.
The sales figure was generated from Saturdays first day of recreational marijuana sales to Tuesday. The tax rate for recreational pot is 33 to 38 percent, depending on local regulations, with all state and local taxes included.
We had a higher demand than everybody initially thought, dispensary association director Riana Durrett said. It shows this market really exists.

That sounds like an argument for, not against, legalization given government's appetite to regulate everything in existence & not risk its tax revenue. That is, when something is illegal it is unregulated.
What percent of the population drink alcohol? Two Thirds
Contaminated products happen in this world. With or without federal inspectors. It’s a natural by-product of greed. Sometimes it gets caught by inspectors, most of the time it’s gets caught by people getting sick.
I’d estimate 10:1 cost:benefit.
Reminds me of the arguments for the first legal state lotteries in the sixties. “It’s for the children.” Look how much state lotteries (and their follow-on brethren Indian casinos) have helped society. All of this is a huge drag on morality and a huge cost to society for zero benefit. Our kids today are far, far more stupid than they were fifty years ago. But liberals will never measure the success of projects. Their success is improving feelings.

Prevalence of Drinking: According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), 86.4 percent of people ages 18 or older reported that they drank alcohol at some point in their lifetime; 70.1 percent reported that they drank in the past year; 56.0 percent reported that they drank in the past month.
Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug (22.2 million people have used it in the past month) according to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Its use is more prevalent among men than womena gender gap that widened in the years 2007 to 2014.
I figure that 22.2 million is closer to 30+ million since its a 2015 study & not a 2017 study. More states have legalized recreational cannabis & medical cannabis since 2015. Still, a far cry from “the inebriated masses”, dontcha’ think?
Waiting for the Commercials warning about the effects of second hand smoke in 3, 2, 1.
Oh never mind, that only works for EVIL Tobacco.
Want to smoke Weed, cool. Just do it in your own Home (if you don’t have any minor Children living with you).
Unlike where marijuana is illegal and everyone gets taxed to enforce those laws.
In Washington State it is legal and law requires that if caught with weed on your person or vehicle that it be in the original package it was purchased in, minus what may have already been rolled in a joint, in a pipe, or edible wrapper.
I’d rather see someone using weed than opioids.
Both have inflicted a lot of ill on society.
I've never considered getting high as recreation.
Everything I've read and seen from Law Enforcement tells us the weed is the gateway drug for other drug use.
There’s a limit to how much approved and taxed dispensaries can charge, when people can just get their own seeds and grow their own.
You can get primo weed for free, or nearly free if you know someone that grows. “Ditchweed” refers to the hemp growing beside the road across the country. Wouldn’t get a gnat high. But growers will also give away leaf, which can smell pretty bad. Used to live with some hippies. I was walking home one day, and about 2 blocks away I started smelling the rankest weed ever burned. Got home and the girls were burning sage to “purify” the air. Fail.
The chances of me knowing someone who grows is slim and none. But if I get me some seeds.....
“Alcohol is a MUCH bigger problem than weed is,”
Alcohol is legal and Weed was not. Hello...
Weed is still federally illegal.
Do you really think that they won't?
Yes...I'm well aware. Prostitution is legal in Vegas also...doesn't mean it's good.
I'm also well aware of the problems associated with alcohol.
I hope there are no alcoholics in your family nor do you have an encounter with a drunk driver or a driver high on weed.
They probably will. SOP I believe.
In Oregon, legal weed can be had for 5 or 6 bucks a gram. Pretty sure that at least matches the street price. And, believe it or not, some people do follow the law and give away weed. You can grow more than you can legally possess, so it’s legal to give away amounts of up to an ounce at a time.
