The first four days of legal recreational marijuana sales generated $3 million in sales revenue and about $500,000 in tax revenue, putting Nevada on pace to achieve an estimated $30 million in sales revenue over the next six months of recreational sales, according to the Nevada Dispensary Association.
The sales figure was generated from Saturdays first day of recreational marijuana sales to Tuesday. The tax rate for recreational pot is 33 to 38 percent, depending on local regulations, with all state and local taxes included.
We had a higher demand than everybody initially thought, dispensary association director Riana Durrett said. It shows this market really exists.

They’ll need to spend it on more cops.
More cops? Not likely.
It depends on the price. Legalization made it legal to smoke marijuana, no matter where you get it. If you can get ditchweed for $100 less an oz, that’s where many people will go.
My BIL smokes the cheapest weed he can get and my sister makes him smoke outside because it stinks up her work clothes. I can’t even eat at their house because it might be loaded.
Taking money out of the economy and giving to the government, AND inebriating the masses is not a good thing
I’m buying stock in Fritos and bean dip.
38%? LOL. Pot heads were high to agree that “a plant” needs a ridiculously punitive taxation rate.
Cheaper on the street.
I see bigger government budgets coming. Stupid.
Supposedly they are only “allowed” to buy it at the state approved locations. How would anyone know? Anyway, quite a few of those we know indulge in what I refer to as skunk weed because that what it smells like to me. The 25 foot away from the entrance rule should be put in place to the establishments we have our jam sessions. Guess I/we are just boring as hell since neither of us drink booze, and don’t do drugs and both quit smoking cigs. ;-)
I guess it remains to be seen how much it will cost the state in criminal and social impact.
I just did quick research for "negative impacts from legalizing marijuana". Consider that it hasn't been legal long enough to assess the long-term impact. Does it increase homelessness and cause an increase in the jobless population? Will that in itself increase crime? Dependence on gov handouts? There already are impacts shown in these articles, and they're short term.
I don't see how you can assume that long term there won't be more need for police when marijuana is legal. More people will be dependent instead of being self-reliant. I realize that there are those who will do just fine in normal society if they use marijuana, but that doesn't address the problems of those who won't.
Legalization made it legal to smoke marijuana, no matter where you get it.
The point of the legal vendors is that they are the only legal sellers. Everyone else is still committing a criminal act
To be immediately used for mental help those who have psychotic episodes from the demon weed.
Even if it’s only a few percent of the stoners. Mental health is expensive.
Colorado just busted 40+ people for...wait for it....selling marijuana, something the government does legally.
It’s fine but it opened that door that you cannot close. People have been selling weed for decades. They aren’t going to stop just because it is illegal. Obviously.
I do prefer the law where you can grow your own. I wonder if deer would eat it.
Freedom & capitalism together in Las Vegas. A wonderful combo!
LOL! Yeah, specially since it’s still a federal offense.
As a resident of Nevada, I worry about the consequences of the drug use—crime, road crashes and injuries, and growing number of people thrown out of work because of their drug use, then burdening communities with their welfare costs because of drug use. Drug users are unemployable, burdens on society, and destroy their families. Sad to see pot legalized in Nevada.
This does not also take into account the damage being done to the brain and the long term costs associated with impaired mental capabilities....but maybe that's what dims want.
What a stupid idea.
As someone who uses cannabis to treat my mental illness I beg to differ.
