Officials at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, are warning airmen and nearby residents to avoid a perimeter around McKinley Climatic Lab after an unexplained explosion occurred at the on-base facility Wednesday.
"A little before 10 a.m., an explosion occurred at McKinley Climatic Lab," Eglin officials said in a Facebook post.
No injuries have been reported.
First responders established a 1,000-ft perimeter, and surrounding areas were evacuated, the post said. Officials said to avoid contact with smoke from the blast, even as it continues to dissipate.

Its just workplace explosion
“McKinley Climatic Lab”
Too much Global Warming in one place? ;)
Prayers Up for anyone hurt...
Odd. Chlorine derivatives or Freon residues in the smoke? Their reaction makes little sense, except today even a 1 gallon oil leak is treated as a catastrophe.
Someone dropped a CFL bulb.
Every AFB has a LOX plant. Was that what possibly blew?
When stationed at Eglin, I used to get a kick at the huge piles of snow that were occasionally dozed out of the McKinley Climatic Lab.
Officials first warned the smoke may have contained methyl chloride, but later said, "It has not been determined that the smoke contained methyl chloride. However the incident occurred in an area within close proximity of said chemical."
My Father worked at the Climatic Laboratory for several years.
They could get the entire hangar down to 65 below zero and some of the rooms large enough to hold a fighter, much colder than that.
When they had it really cold, the workers would wear parkas just like those in the Arctic.
They used to have a huge thermometer showing the temperature. People driving by could read it.
The Building 440 is an insulated, refrigerated hangar. There is an office and instrumentation building, a cold-weather engine test cell, the refrigeration system, mechanical-draft cooling towers, and a steam-heating plant
The All-Weather Room is 42 feet (13 m) by 22 feet (7 m). It has a temperature range from −80 °F (−62 °C) to 170 °F (77 °C). Rainfall can be as high as 15 inches (380 mm) per hour and the wind can be as high as 60 knots (31 m/s). Snow can be made in the chamber.
Rapid uncontrolled climate change?
When I worked at Eglin, they often tested snow tires in the lab during the summer.
Hahahaha!! That’s a good one!
Reminds me of pumping gas in the 70s you would spill a bit on the concrete and a dixie cup would spread out to 10 by 10 feet and the customer would say you spilled a couple gallons and want some money back
Someone ate too many tacos on the 4th.
The aliens got loose
Hank over inflated the weather balloon?
Was stationed at Tyndall in the 50’s and often visited Eglin. The chow was better at Tyndall.
