The only thing I would like the President to do here is mention that even if we were staying in this deal, it is a treaty and needs to be ratified by the Senate, which it never was. He should say that any new agreement will be treated as a treaty and ratified by the Senate.
He should do this because just as sure as I am sitting here some Federal Judge will be asked to rule that the U.S. can’t withdraw from the Paris Accord. As a fall back position, I would like to see it on record that the treaty was never in existence in the first place because it wasn’t ratified, therefore, it never really had legal effect and the plaintiff (whoever it will be) does not have standing to sue.
It won’t matter much to the Ninth Circuit Judge who rules we can’t withdraw but it strengthens the case at the Supreme Court. It makes it easy for them to dispose of it without John the “Brave” (cough) Roberts having to put his opinion of Global Warming on the record, or rather, risk that his opinion could get read a certain way that excludes him from the most fashionable cocktail parties. That won’t end well.
Anyone who was “concerned” about which way Trump would go on this issue may as well be a NeverTrumper, because they have no understanding of the man at all.
There are no words to describe how proud I am of the President.
You cannot listen to him speak about this country and not hear and feel the patriotism of his heart.
