EXAMPLE

The most valuable gift you can give another is a good example.

"For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you." (John: 13:15)

In his autobiography, Armand Hammer, known as much for his humanitarian efforts as for being chairman and CEO of Occidental Petroleum, an advisor to presidents from Roosevelt to Reagan, and an industrialist, reveals the roots of his giving spirit:

"My father had become a prominent and greatly loved figure in the area. . .It was an almost ecstatic experience for me to ride with him when he was on his doctor's rounds. Patients greeted him at their doors with such a warmth that waves of pride and honor would surge in me to find myself the son of such a father, a man so obviously good, so obviously deserving of the affection he received. He could have, however, made himself many times richer if he had insisted on collecting all of his bills; or if he could have restrained himself from giving money away; but then he would not have been the man he was."

"I have seen, in his office, drawers full of unpaid bills for which he refused to demand payment because he knew the difficult circumstances of the patients. And I heard innumerable stories from patients about leaving money behind to pay for the prescriptions he had written when he visited people who were too poor to eat, let alone pay the doctor."

What a wonderful legacy to leave your child...the "business" of loving and giving to others.

LT S. Edwards, CHC, USN

A nice, restful weekend for me, son is coming over tomorrow.

Well, it sounds like the caretaker knows dinner, that meal sounded yummy.

I know it's tough for you and your Mom, best wishes, hope all goes well, Kathy!

Good evening, radu, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.

Did your day go well? Any rain? Babies all have eyes open and getting to explore? How is their roommate with the new, probably noisy, kids?

I was never able to finish my “good evening” to you last night. d:o( Just too many Mom things going on. And tonight, every time I sit down at the computer, a call comes. She wanted to “putter” around the house. She is finally in bed and watching TV.

Howdy, Kathy!

I figured you had a lot of “mom” issues to deal with tonight since you weren’t around very long. I hope she’s going to stay quiet now that she’s in bed. It sounds like you’re ready for a break!

We got rain all right. It hit early this evening and there was a line of strong storms along the leading edge. Not much lightning but strong winds. We don’t know if we have any tree damage but will find out tomorrow when it’s light.
The rain finally stopped a little after 10:00 so I made what was supposed to be a quick run to the Wal Mart 3 miles south of us for cat food and a few other things. That section of town is pitch black - - power knocked out. So it was off to the Wal Mart 12 miles north of us instead and it was packed. And there were only TWO cashiers. I’m frazzled but the kittehs have something to eat now.

The kittens do have their eyes open but aren’t roaming freely yet. They’re still confined to the box. And they’re pretty quiet so far so Ellie doesn’t have her nose out of joint yet. But once they’re allowed out of the box, all bets are off. LOL

Such fun driving all over creation knowing you can’t go home without procuring the things on your list.

I am off to bed.....finally had to wake my Mom up. Lots of yelling in her dreams. They don’t seem to be pleasant ones.

Good night and rest well when you get there.

I do all my other shopping in that town so the drive doesn’t bother me. The big pain was the crowd in the store and the lack of cashiers. All the others who normally would have been at the Winchester store also went to Tullahoma so it was a fiasco. No one counted on the power getting knocked out by the storm.

Your poor mom. Even in her sleep she doesn’t have much peace of mind, does she? Gotta be rough. I hope the rest of the night is calm for her so you can both get some good sleep.

You quote Armand Hammer, the Soviet apologist. Perhaps you would like to know something about him:

“While most historians (such as Beverly Gage[14] and Nigel West[15]) state that Julius had performed the abortion, an opposing position has been put forward by author Edward Jay Epstein. Epstein in his book Dossier: The Secret History of Armand Hammer puts forward the claim that it was Armand Hammer rather than his father who performed the abortion and his father Julius assumed the blame.[10] Epstein’s claims come from interview comments made by Bettye Murphy who had been Armand’s mistress.[16] According to Murphy and Epstein’s account the legal strategy was that Julius did not deny that an abortion had been performed, but insisted that it had been medically necessary, and that a licensed doctor rather than a medical student would be more convincing in presenting that argument.[17] Epstein’s take on events remains controversial and a minority position.[according to whom?]

After Julius was imprisoned he sent Armand Hammer to the Soviet Union to look after the affairs of his company Allied Drug and Chemical.[10] Hammer would travel back and forth from the Soviet Union for the next 10 years.”[

Good Morning

The power, phone and internet are back. Some soil and grass are emerging form the 2’+ of snow. In one month the days will begin to get shorter.
