BART police are beefing up patrols at Oakland stations after dozens of juveniles terrorized riders Saturday night when they invaded the Coliseum Station and commandeered a train car, forcing passengers to hand over bags and cell phones and leaving at least two with head injuries.
The incident — the first of its kind in recent memory — occurred around 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Witnesses told police that 40 to 60 juveniles flooded the station, jumped the fare gates and rushed to the second-story train platform. Some of the robbers apparently held open the doors of a Dublin-bound train car while others streamed inside, confronting and robbing and in some cases beating riders.
“At least two victims suffered head/facial injuries requiring medical attention,” said a police summary prepared after the incident.
Alicia Trost, a BART spokeswoman, said Monday that seven people were robbed — with the victims losing a purse, a duffel bag and five phones. Six people were robbed inside the train car, with a seventh confronted on the platform, she said. Police received no reports of guns or other weapons being brandished.
The attack was quick, police reported, and the teenagers were able to retreat from the station and vanish into the surrounding East Oakland neighborhood before BART officers could respond. The train was held for about 15 minutes as authorities interviewed victims and witnesses and tended to the injured.
Trost said police arrived at the station in under 5 minutes, but the robberies took place in just seconds. No officers were at Coliseum station at the time, but were patrolling Oakland stations, she said.

So glad I stayed away from BART this weekend!
The incident brings to mind previous experiences I'd had on the Pittsburg/Bay Point-San Francisco line ("Yellow" line). A group of youths would board, generally at the West Oakland station (for a San Francisco-bound train) and begin an impromptu period of entertainment (beginning with "Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen") which included dancing, rap, music played on a boom box, and maybe also some gymnastics from the overhead grab bars. After the presentation, they'd ask for donations. Show over, they'd move on to the next car.
Nothing violent about this, it was mildly annoying, but it kind of makes someone used to disruption. The "performers" were never more than two or three in number.
It made me wonder if people used to these "presentations" would be more inured to the mass swarm that happened at the Coliseum station.

When I first had to learn to use a computer at work my teacher was a young black guy who was from Oakland. He used to tell me stories of the horrors he went through because he applied himself early and wanted to go to college.
He was beaten and had his school work destroyed so many times that his father who was a navy vet arranged for him to go live with a former shipmate in the central valley. He said his junior and senior years were trouble free even though he was one of only a few black students in his school.
He laughed when he told me the hardest part of his adjustment was because he was not a jock. Everyone just assumed he could run a 9.5 hundred and dunk from the top of the key.

When my parents divorced in '66, my siblings and I were thrust face first into the civilian black community, which was almost completely alien to us. To say our re-adjustment was difficult would be a massive understatement. In many ways, we never did fully meld with our black peers.
Quite honestly, you're from where you're from, and there's no faking it. In time I learned not to, and became quite popular by just being myself. I also had to earn respect by standing my ground, and never backing down from a fight, though I never once started one. I definitely finished plenty.
My teenage years were one helluva learning experience for me. I don't necessarily fear being in areas with high cocentrations of blacks, but it's only because I developed an acute and highly tuned situational awareness during my time in the ghetto.
More than that, I developed what I can only describe as a psychic response mechanism. When some black predator locks onto me, I instinctively send back a matching wave that lets him know I'm a dangerous target that's best avoided.
Scratch a liberal, find a communist.
The ideological forbears of today's radical libs killed 100 million people in the 20th century. They are a FAR greater threat to us Normals than any feral blacks.
Those we can deal with, with a bit of common sense, good situational awareness, and tough law enforcement. It also helps to live in a state that respects and upholds the 2nd Amendment.
The weapon would be confiscated for evidence most likely to never be seen again.
A hook up and a ride to copopolis to get it sorted out several hours later.
A release and a wait wait while the DA sniffs the current political winds to judge whether it would be politically advantageous to charge no matter what the circumstances.
A further wait for a possible civil suite from the assailants family and associated legal fee's.
This is all predicated on you not dying in the initial

I'm not sure that real situational awareness can be taught, but living in a truly dangerous environment does tend to naturally enhance the ability.
