Recep Tayyip Erdogan didnt just win his constitutional referendum he permanently closed a chapter of his countrys modern history... Whether they understood it or not, when Turks voted Yes, they were registering their opposition to the Teşkilât-ı Esasîye Kanunu and the version of modernity that Ataturk imagined and represented. Though the opposition is still disputing the final vote tallies, the Turkish public seems to have given Erdogan and the AKP license to reorganize the Turkish state and in the process raze the values on which it was built.

Before we kick them out of NATO we’d best sneak our nukes out of Turkey and as many other military assets as possible. Too many marxists in Greece for their own good, but they’re very poor marxists these days. They’d love $ from Trump instead of with Merkal’s strings. So lease some replacement bases from them! Only serious question should be do we want bases on Greek half of Cyprus as it begs the question of whether to let Turkey keep the other half.

The Turkish home people voted “no.” The Turks throughout Europe swayed the vote. All the Turks I know hate him!
The West is turned from the West, unless something gives in France, Germany or Norway’s elections.
I wonder how the Armenians are holding up.
You and your incessant anti-Russian nonsense ... ponderous

another oportunity for the CIA to stir up another "civil war" and flood the civilized world with islamodorks...can hardly wait for the next wave of ingrate immigrants...we can fund their living allowances with our "social security" [/sarcasm]
Worth noting here that Mein Kampf was a Germanic version of the koran.
Since most of Turkey never left the 15th century or earlier, getting the big cities like Ankara and Istanbul in line should not be too difficult.
The EU is in terminal decline
the EU lacks the will to live
My guess is once they get too close to anything resembling too much tolerance, they crack.
They are drawing from a hateful book.
It can never end well in the long run
So a dictatorship is part of Nato and the EU? Serious?
Anti-communist and part of NATO -- that was certainly "Western" in the Cold War.
But in any case, a country could still be "turned towards the West" without being "part of the West."
If they've turned away from the West, that will become clear soon enough.
It is a sad time for Turkey, and I don’t see how they’ll be able to stay in NATO much longer. With all that Erdogan stands for, I can see him easily joining the putin, Hezbollah, Iranian mad mullah alliance.
Great post elhombrelibre you are right it won’t be long until Turkey is out of NATO and into the ill fated alliance with Russia and Iran in a invasion against Israel as was foretold by the Prophet Ezekiel some over 2,000 years ago.
Well a nation with a lot of fools, and as pioneers of secular democracy, it’s sad to see. I bet a lot of people in this country would have voted to give Obama dictatorial powers.
I am hearing though that these results are not legit, in fact there is little reason to believe they are. The Sultan stuffed the ballot box. I do not think he’s a jihadist, I think he’s a wanna be Putin style dictator (and now he can lose the wanna be part) who uses religious rhetoric to gin up the vote from ignorant rural peasants and wants to expand his countries power. And that’s bad enough.
Turkey is one of those countries with no one for decent people to vote for, not since the Sultan took over the center-right party.
I hope there’s a coup at some point, preferably a real one this time. The last one was either staged entirely or most the pathetic attempt since Venezuela 2002.
While the assclowns are “worrying” about Assad, they’re completely ignoring the much greater danger in the region - Turkey.
“Islam, this absurd theology of an immoral Bedouin, is a rotting corpse which poisons our lives.”
-Mustafa Ataturk
He is/was 1000000000000000% right.
