Children think it's cool to be transgender and they're trying the self-identity out in droves, claims an Australian psychiatrist.
Psychiatrist Stephen Stathis, who runs the gender clinic at Brisbane's Lady Cilento Children's Hospital and is responsible for diagnosing gender dysphoria, reports that many youth are trying out being transgender in order to stand out.
Apparently, declaring oneself transgender is trendy. One said to me, Doctor Steve ... I want to be transgender, its the new black, Stathis related.
Dr. Stathis also says many girls want to be transgender as a result of sexual abuse. The girls say, If only I had been a male, I wouldnt have been abused, Stathis explained.
Some are so convinced their life would be better if they were the opposite sex that they do something drastic or permanent. Ive seen genital mutilation, some who try to cut off their penis, Stathis said.
Australia began a new, government-funded "gender service" for children at Lady Cilento Hospital, which expects to assess 180 youth this year. The goal of most of the gender-confused children is to get puberty blocking chemicals and/or sex change hormone treatment.
Most patients, however, are simply going through a common phase of adolescent life, Stathis explained.

Agreed. I think there might be something to what you are saying.
I thought this technology would be good for people who were shut in or elderly, and still think it might be okay for them, but for a lot of other people it hasn’t turned out that way.
I know they exist, but its not yet a civil right.

Slippery slope ain’t just a logical fallacy any more.
When you see one “civil right” used as a template for other deviance to be introduced, then it’s just a matter of time.
Like a camel’s nose in a tent. Soon, the whole camel is coming in. Just the fact that millennials take trans-anything seriously means the camel should be beaten about the face and shoulders until it gets back out where it belongs.
I agree. Unless we experience that EMP attack that some discuss, the technology will continue to promote pathology.
I have the original Powerglide in my 1958 Impala. I've had it rebuilt for your price above and it runs great, but still leaks somewhat. I'd rather have a Turboglide since it has 3 gears but won't replace an original tranny. All my power train numbers match.
I'd go with the Hydramatic to get away from the Powerglide higher rpm's at speed and lousy mileage. Interestingly, the Powerglide was popular with the early dragsters with their high torque and the run was short. But then, they "blew a lot of trannys". Kinda like a Frisco bathhouse. Ha!
Yes, I realize that. However, we aren’t there yet. Nobody is threatening you with lawsuits if you tell your child he isn’t really a puppy. Yet.
Right, it could also be the problems are more glaring or visible and the benefits aren’t as attention getting. There are a lot of folks that get emotional support over the internet. I still have a hard time imaging it is ultimately going to be a benefit 100 years for now. Wait until they come up with good virtual reality and internet hook up skull implants, ha.

Isn't that already called a sheep herder?
Muslim
Definitely. Also, it's possible that the problems are "worser" than the benefits are "better." For example, the capacity for texting and other smartphone use while driving is increasing auto accidents and death very dramatically. That's really bad. On the other hand, I can send my husband a text, "Get milk, spinach pls," saving a phone call or trip to the store. That's a little good.
Imagine what would happen when the generations that always have had unlimited portable internet suddenly get cut off from it. I doubt many really have any idea of how to occupy or even entertain themselves without it.
We currently have a society where the poorest are the most likely to be obese, something that has never happened before in all of history. So I think any sort of sustained civil unrest is unlikely while that is the case. But maybe it would be more likely if all electronic devices ceased to function at once.

The texting while driving was always bad but it is way worse now that most phones don’t have an actual key pad. Kids used to be able to text by feel of the buttons on flip phones, now they have to look at their phone’s screen.

That list left out “WTF”.
It’s true, I could text without looking on my flip phone.
The young adults in my family are very distressed if the Internet even slows down. They have some non-electronic interests, fortunately: books, running, drinking in bars.
I know this is true and it’s very sad. The consequences will be life long.
Hunterdon Central in NJ
is that the one in Flemington...?
I think we are probably eventually going to look back at the advent of instant portable internet access and social media as being simply a disaster for society and culture, especially for younger girls.
perhaps, but I think social media simply replaced hand written diaries as more visual and shareable records of young female angst...
That could very well be. But as you say, no written diary was ever disseminated, shared and spread in real time among family, friends, and strangers in huge numbers like this social media stuff is. I think it probably changes the way a person thinks.
