Chickens Come Home to Roost: Massive Layoffs Predicted for ESPN Broadcasters (Bye, Bye Losers)
Breitbart ^ | 4-2-2017 | Robert J. Marlow

As reported extensively by Breitbart News, ESPN has suffered severe losses in cable subscriptions over the last few years, the repercussion of which will rear its ugly head in the form of significant cutting of on-air talent in the near future. According to comments made Thursday by ESPN’s Jim Miller on SI Media Podcast with Richard Deitsch, dozens of employees will soon join the unemployment lines.

“The way that I’ve heard it—and I’ve kind of run the numbers on it, I think we’re looking at between 40 and 50 people,” Miller said. “And look, there’s a lot of uncertainty about who it’s gonna be and why. Remember, this is not quantum physics, so it’s not an exact equation.”

The plight of ESPN is no trivial matter for entertainment giant Disney, the parent company for the “Worldwide leader in sports entertainment.” In February, The Wrap reported, “Cable networks, particularly ESPN, have been an albatross on Disney’s stock price even as the company’s two other major prongs, movies, and theme parks, continue to perform well.

“As cheaper TV alternatives began to proliferate, ESPN hemorrhaged subscribers during the course of 2016 and is now at less than 88 million, compared with a peak of 100.1 million in 2011. At an estimated $7 per subscriber, that dip has been a substantial hit to Disney, especially considering media networks made up 49 percent of Disney’s profits during fiscal 2016.”

Miller presented a potential revised line up for the beleaguered network:

Unfortunately they will still be spewing their liberal S#!t. The networks have shown they care more for their liberal agenda than for the truth!!

There is a secular decline in the sports broadcasting sector. It has virtually nothing to do with politics.

Mmm-hmm. I see. Consumer anger against the sports networks for their support of idiots like Kaepernick and the conversion of sports (as with everything liberals touch) into a social experiment had nothing to do with it. Total Sasquatch observation.

Oh, by the way... what color is the sky on your planet?

I like to watch the game not listen to the stupid prattle of the color commentators talking about everything but the game; but even then it’s stupid. When you’re at the game you don’t hear that nonsense and it’s great.

Dear sportscasters, now you are free to express your talents.

Try Starbucks or McDs.

Buttwipes.

I wonder if there is a website somewhere with a list of possible layoffs with odds for stay or go. If there were such a thing, I’d put $20 on Michael & Jemele staying in spite of the fact they can’t hold an audience even with all the promos they run.

Maybe they should hire Colin Kapernick as a combination game analyst and political commentator. He’d get a job, they’d get two for the price of one. A win-win for everyone except the viewers.

They've decided they would rather do LIBERAL politics than sports.

And they paid way too much for product while dropping popular offerings like "Australian Rules Football".

I can’t comment on the ‘talent’ since I only watch ESPN for college football, but my prediction is that they’ll can the white male sportscasters and keep the political commentators, the more liberal of the blacks, and the chicks.

No. Not liberal elite frat boys, but sodomites (Lucifereans), who want to groom little boys of the moral masculine Christian males who make up a lot of the audience, into homosexuality and Ba’al Rites for their sodomy orgies, like they frequent in Hollywood (Corey Feldmen).

Their Sparta homosexual pagan “push” for that Man/Boy culture of Ba’al rituals is obvious to any moral Christian parent. The satanic sodomite rituals at halftime Super Bowl games has been going on for a decade as the vulgar promotion of Men pretending to be Women. They even use irrational (PC) language “for the boys watching, of course”.

Most TV/Movies are promoting sodomy, pederasty, baby-killing, fornication, hyper-sexualization of children—to normalize meaningless sex (vice) and their NWO where Slavery is Freedom, Vice is Virtue and Boys can be Girls (total dehumanization— and removal of Truth and Virtue in children).

“Reason” and Truth (God) has been vilified 24/7 as “Feelings” and moral relativism (satanism) is promoted 24/7 in most of TV “programming”and all public skools. It is their agenda to destroy Reason and Virtue in children and embed irrational, unnatural emotions. It is working on those children who consume the sodomites’ messages and programming. All Common Core embeds vice and puts a Marxist lens on children (only “collective” worldview where Reason and Logic (individualism) is destroyed).

Homosexuality, a vice, is a learned nihilistic behavior like all evil behaviors like killing one’s own genetic offspring. With the brainwashing, all common sense and natural instincts will be destroyed. Without Virtue formation in children, freedom is impossible.

Without knowing details, you got my point immediately. Like you, I’m definitely about college football but I do enjoy Mike & Mike in the morning. However, the PC is palpable and irritating.

When you’re holding a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

In your case, when you’re a political ideologue, everything is political.

That show is completely unwatchable. Any two randomly selected co-workers of mine are more knowledgeable about sports than they are.

Most cable networks are losing viewers, as more people “cut the cord.”. The question is whether the rate of decline is higher at ESPN than at Fox Sports or other sports networks. I don’t know the answer to that question. Do you?

MTV went downhill when it became "about the music" rather than "music."

ESPN is well down the same road. They don't understand their opinions on any number of subjects aren't worth listening to.

Talk about a lose-lose scenario for the hapless cable customer! they are subsidizing the sports freaks, as well as the cable content providers which control all content which ultimately end up available through companies like Comcast, which is "owned" by ???

The Media Monopoly and Pricing Pirates

I cut the Cable Cord over 6 months ago, and now get my entertainment through the air and via niche web sites based in foreign countries, which are beyond the reach of the news/entertainment Monopolies.

Don’t care.

Honestly, the decline in sports will be a net good for the Culture.

I love football, but ESPN, the exploitation by the the universities (many players have no business graduating for high school, let alone college) and the concussion scandal has dulled my fire for them.

ESPN Loses Another 1.5 Million Subscribers As Cord Cutting Accelerates

Here's a discussion at a sports-focused website. Subscribers to sports channels are declining across the board. The situation at ESPN is more notable because 1) ESPN has more subscribers to begin with, so the absolute numbers of lost subscribers is higher in absolute terms; and 2) ESPN costs significantly more than any other sports channel meaning that it is the first to be foregone by non-sports fans.

Sports-centric sources are better incented to understand the secular decline in the sports broadcasting business than political websites. As I said before, to political ideologues, everything is a political problem.
