Gingrich: Freedom Caucus Saved House Republicans From Destructive Vote

Monday on Fox Business Network’s “Cavuto: Coast to Coast,” former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said the House Freedom Caucus saved House Republicans from a politically destructive vote when they refused to support the House Republican health care bill which only had a 17 percent approval rating among voters.

Gingrich said, “Not voting on Friday was really good. The Democrats lost their majority for the first time in 40 years after they tried to push through Hillarycare. The Democrats lost the majority again in 2010 after they pushed through Obamacare. If we had all the House Republicans line up and vote yes on a bill that was at 17 percent approval — that means four out of five Americans were not approving — I will guarantee you the Democrats would have had a field day.”

Newt is right here. TRUMP has to be more careful and stop trusting the wrong people, some of whom are too close to him.

Implying Trump didn’t plan it this way in the first place. He’s not as dumb as you assume.

I'm glad Mr. Gingrich is saying this publicly. I've been posting it all over FreeRepublic for the last few days, and it is the only relevant fact about the AHCA debacle that anyone needs to consider.

I'm sure he has also made sure that President Trump has gotten the message.

The Republicans have had 7+ years to craft a replacement bill. Let’s see it.

To be fair, Trump’s own Twitter posts sometimes leave a lot of us scratching our heads. LOL.

This is true. He does have a unique negotiating strategy.

Get rid of Obamacare (2015 bill dusted off and already in committee) and let the free markets take over.

The 100% crap sandwich known as Obamacare tastes better to Newt than the 50% crap sandwich known as AHCA?

OK, whatever....

If Ryan actually believed in Republican principles he would bring up the same bill they offered for Obama to veto. He would force all members of the House to go on record for a vote that would pass with Trump this time around or fail in the house due to RINO members. (Let the scumbags be primaried afterwards!)

Next time the Dems will vote for it and show the GOP stupidity of 8 years of effort, win in 2018 and reinput Obamacare. Then it will live on. The Freedom Caucus is full of it. They live in Utopialand. I want Trump to represent us. Next thing I see blowing up is getting trade jobs back.

It’s good to hear that Newt remained conservative on this.

I’m with you. Trump is not dumb and I think he reads people well. Trump had a reason for following Ryan - I just don’t know what that reason is yet.

More like an 80%-90% krap sandwich. Unworthy of Mr. Trump’s support.
