President Trump plans to unveil a new White House office on Monday with sweeping authority to overhaul the federal bureaucracy and fulfill key campaign promises such as reforming care for veterans and fighting opioid addiction by harvesting ideas from the business world and, potentially, privatizing some government functions. The White House Office of American Innovation, to be led by Jared Kushner, the presidents son-in-law and senior adviser, will operate as its own nimble power center within the West Wing and will report directly to Trump.
Viewed internally as a SWAT team of strategic consultants, the office will be staffed by former business executives and is designed to infuse fresh thinking into Washington, float above the daily political grind and create a lasting legacy for a president still searching for signature achievements.

Kushner is positioning the new office as an offensive team an aggressive, nonideological ideas factory capable of attracting top talent from both inside and outside of government, and serving as a conduit with the business, philanthropic and academic communities.
We should have excellence in government, Kushner said Sunday in an interview in his West Wing office. The government should be run like a great American company. Our hope is that we can achieve successes and efficiencies for our customers, who are the citizens.
The innovation office has a particular focus on technology and data, and it is working with such titans as Apple chief executive Tim Cook, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Salesforce chief executive Marc Benioff and Tesla founder and chief executive Elon Musk. The group has already hosted sessions with more than 100 such leaders and government officials.

You are apparently not aware that it was Jared Kushner that got Trump Elected. He saw a campaign that was not functioning well and applied his magic. He went to San Antonio Texas and established a working group that applied cutting edge technology to discern when and where to apply the limited funds.
He is better than you...... he knows more than you. He will do what is wanted by his father in law
I always believe everything the WaPo writes about. I had to do a double take because I thought this was FR. Instead I got what looks like the dump.
Media is salivating now because they have us right where they want us. And it took only 2 months!
“they have Jamie Gorelick advising them on ethics.”
Oy!!
I’m glad I’m old and won’t see what will happen to America in the not-too-distant future. The whole situation is a hot mess.
Kushner and his crowd actually believe they can sashay into a few meetings and make substantial changes in government? I’m not saying it is a terrible idea or it’s not, but we do have a Legislative branch and rules to follow.
That bothers me, too.
Please, God, do not let President Trump be assimilated by the DC Borg.
Maybe we should understand the facts and stop trashing Trump. He tried working with Rep but they just spit in his face. So why try again? If the Dems (blue dog) want to replace Ocare and work with Trump, that is fine. Maybe, just maybe, this is Trump’s way of saying to the Rep that blocked him “get on board or get out of the way”. So have some faith!
“Such confidence could certainly be a positive thing, if directed properly...”
If they confidently decided to decouple opioids from the popular and much less harmful drug marijuana, by ending federal laws against the latter, that would certainly be a positive thing. I’m not holding my breath.
WOW, you must have supported Trump for what a minute or so? If you believe in the Trump Doctrine, then you must trust in his way of controlling government. I can see this as the best thing to get around government bureaucrats to get things done. Don’t forget it was Kushner who propelled Trump to the finish line with the data mining and strategy of where to campaign, e.g. PA, WI, MI, etc. Have some faith and stop trashing a plan that might be better than that outlined by the WP. WOW, how quick some people turn.
I once worked for a Large energy concern in the Midwest. During my tenure in the 1990’s, the company lost capital and investments; they halted what were once quite coveted stock and associated dividends. They hired a new CEO.
One of the first things he did was streamline the organization creating a 3-tier hierarchy where any single employee answered to a Manager who answered to an Operational Vice-president. Each OVP was tasked with executing their corporate mandate.
This left the C-level to focus on GROWING the business. I wonder now, if this same template can be used to SHRINK the government?
It appears a lot of people on this tread are trashing Trump’s idea because what is presented by the WP. WOW, have some faith. All these billionaires are much better at solving problems than you or I or anyone here. They made it when everyone was against them. I remember when Amazon first started and every media outlet said it wouldn’t work against brick and mortar. Now who is laughing.
I’m sure that Trump wouldn’t have started this idea if he didn’t see a vision on how to get around Washington and actually fix something that all other politicians only talk about. Have some faith and when Trump (NOT the WP) outlines his plan, you will be enlightened too !!
I’m not sure what to think of this.
Back in December before Trump even took office, the media was desperately trying to turn Trump’s base against him in a play to divide and conquer.
But Trump’s moves in the past week have been curious and troubling.
while I know his strategics are part of his specialty, I can’t help but be unnerved by a lot of it.
His tweet about conservatives, his support of that disaster healthcare bill, him putting immigration on the back burner...hell, even his move to give Preibus the COS position...I don’t like it and I don’t get it.
He’s out there blaming Democrats and Conservatives for the American Care Act failing. yo, dude, you can blame us, the people who put you in office. WE demanded our representatives do what we put them there to do. Take the hint.
Well said...bump.
more sound and fury signifying nothing.
I remember this when Al Gore did it.
Seriously, Kushner may be a brilliant guy and a great guy. But in the real world, he would be hoping to make junior partner right about now.
In the Trump White House, he is reinventing government AND brining peace to the Middle East. I mean, if the dude succeeds, we should just make him President for Life, shouldn’t we?
I like and support President Trump..... but I hate this move.
I’m sorry but Kushner is too cosy with the Washington DC Establishment.
I don’t like this move at all. Hope President Trump proves me wrong.
Sorry, but we have a multitude of ‘think-tanks’\groups that do this type of thing FREELY already!?
Dust ‘em off\pull ‘em from the circular file and put them into ACTION.
I can only think he’s getting bad advice, or allowing shills to run the works. I can’t see biz. man duplicating work that was given away.
Garbage in = garbage out.
As someone who has seen Demming, Kaizen, ISO, etc etc, it is as one Financial Wonk on Fox said, team Trump will bring Six Sigma to DC.
I have been on a screed for years this is what is needed. They will squeal like a stuck pig and either self select out, or go with the program.
Outstanding......
Imagine if you owned a sucessful business and the Department of Education was one on your subsidiaries and it was consuming boatloads of capital every year. Would you dispatch you best managers to throw some more money at it?
Look out America, here comes Jared Kushner with some "business ideas"!
Why all the hate for Kushner? He is the one who ran Trump’s campaign and won the race on a shoestring. I like this move and this is what Trump ran on. If you like your big bloated inefficiencies, you can keep your big bloated inefficiencies. I prefer streamlined and run like a business.
