Fresh off a defeat on U.S. healthcare legislation, the White House warned rebellious conservative lawmakers that they should get behind President Donald Trump's agenda or he may bypass them on future legislative fights, including tax reform.
The threat by White House chief of staff Reince Priebus to build a broad coalition on tax reform that could include moderate Democrats came as the Republican head of the tax-writing committee in the House of Representatives said he hoped to move a tax bill through his panel this spring.
House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady said his committee had been working on tax reform in parallel with the failed healthcare reform push.
"We've never stopped working," Brady told Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo." "We will continue to make improvements."
Brady said the committee plans to move on the bill in the spring. He said he wanted the House blueprint to be the basis for Trump's tax reform plan rather than have competing versions from Treasury and the White House.
Both Trump and Priebus have scolded hardline conservatives who rejected legislation backed by the White House to overhaul Obamacare.
Speaking on "Fox News Sunday," Priebus held out the possibility of working with moderate Democrats as well as Republicans to pass other aspects of Trump's agenda, such as his proposed budget, the revamp of the tax code and a renewed effort at healthcare reform.
"If we can come up with a bill that accomplishes the goals of the president with Republicans alone, we'll take it and we'll move forward with it," Priebus said.

This is why I said last year that a combination of Donald Trump in the White House and the Democrats in control of Congress could potentially become an unmitigated disaster.
I didn’t ever say, no would I, that the HFC is at fault.
I said it was Republicans in Congress, and that is CLEARLY the case.
Ryan conceded the argument that there is a Federal entitlement to healthcare. That was never part of the Republican platform, and refusing to support that position was the correct one.
Sure this is not fake news?
Let’s wait and see.
Strange. I'm looking at the Wiki list of Freedom Caucus members and former Freedom Caucus members and I don't see his name.
Must be a mistake that he's not listed. Right?
As I said in another post on this thread, Trump puts a premium on loyalty and trust, but seems to forget this is a two-way street.
The only people who can truly destroy Trump’s presidency is his base. If he keeps doing some of things he’s doing, he’s going to accomplish that in short order.
It’s still early.
“He would have had all of them on board and that was/is all he needed.”
Not so. The further the bill moved toward liberty the more “moderate” Republicans they lost. They tried to thread the needle in the GOP caucus alone and found that middle in the GOP caucus to only be about 190 votes wide.
A “Repeal Only” bill would lose with 420+ votes NAY.
That’s our sad political reality.
LOL!
“Hell get nothing done if he sticks to Republicans alone”
That is a political truth.
Hannity Ban non Cotton Rand Ted etc need to do an intervention on trump and explain he is headed for destruction and a one term.
Obama’s illegal DACA program becomes Trump’s illegal DACA program if he continues it.
Be refusing to accept legislation that won’t work, we let the even worse legislation fail even more miserably. And get none of the blame. That’s a far better outcome than signing on to legislation that will also fail, but for which we will then own.

Exactly! And this should be Trump’s position (maybe it is?), but Trump thought it would be advantageous to attack the FC, and by extension, a portion of his base. I’m growing weary of people trying to convince us that this is “brilliance” we’re witnessing. Helping the Left to divide our base is not brilliant...it’s just plain dumb!
Hahaha, ok there buddy. Enjoy the air up there.
I'm still waiting for Donald Trump to post a sarcastic Twitter message thanking him for saving Obamacare and Planned Parenthood's funding.
The Twitter silence on this one is deafening.
“Ryan supported, voted for and passed a January 2016 ACA repeal only bill. “
That same bill would lose by over 400 votes in the House today.
I believe a lot of us warned this was coming. Im sure well get true conservative legislation when the freedom caucus votes are replaced with democrats.
And how much “true conservative legislation” have you gotten with the freedom caucus? Jim Jordan is great flapping his gums on TV but couldn’t get his wonderful bill out of committee.
If you put together a book containing all of Trump's Twitter posts and you didn't know who authored them, you'd probably conclude that they were written by either a mad genius or by someone who was mildly retarded. LOL.
This is from Reuters. Just sayin’.
Trump was on record in support of single payer more than 20 years ago.
Dozens of times during the primaries and the general campaign he stated “Everyone will be covered”. In front of 10s of thousands of people, millions if you count the home audience.
He would sign a single payer plan.
