No, in setback to Ryan. They still don’t get Trump’s negotiating and I’m tired of explaining it to people. This was RYAN’s bill. Trump gave him cover while privately meeting with Freedom Caucus, Cruz, and Paul to fix it.
I agree, this is Ryan’s set back — not Trump’s — he is negotiating and now has the stronger hand as Ryan was unable to get the votes.

Well stated. Obvious to me that those who view this as failure have never been involved in a large impact negotiation. Stops and starts are usual and sometimes very valuable in getting to the desired end state.
That is total and complete bull shit and you know it. Trump has endorsed this bill inside and out. Trump has said this is a great bill and has threatened to primary those who vote against it. I would say that makes this as much Trump’s bill as Ryan. So Trump gave him cover? Sounds like they’re partners to me. Call a spade a spade.
Thanks, LS. Good perspective.
It's funny to see the Trump-haters come out of the woodwork whenever they see an opportunity to undermine him.
This isn't a setback for President Trump at all. Eventually, something will be passed, even if it's unrecognizable as the bill that Ryan initially introduced. The more influence true conservatives are able to exert over it, the more likely it will be something that might actually succeed.
I think the President's greatest risk is to sign some kind of GOPe garbage that won't even solve the issues with 0bamacare. So any delays which end up improving the bill are fine by me.
This notion that this is a setback for the President is the height of wishful thinking on the part of Trump's detractors.
This is a setback for Ryan and the GOPe, because the President will still succeed ultimately, by signing whatever is passed. I just hope he's smart enough to make sure that whatever is passed is something that he can be proud of having his name attached to, because that will certainly be the case...
Trump cheered for the Ryan children playing in the front yard, while leaving the back screen door of WH open for the Freedom Caucus.
I remain highly optimistic.
This is just d#mned deal doin’.
Yes, it was Ryan’s. He did not allow others to touch the bill much less have any changes/amendments, etc.
It wouldn’t matter if 100% of the people understood it after you explained it. ABC would still report it this way.
Exactly so.
Your explanation doesn’t match President Trump’s rhetoric and actions since the bill started being worked on, and certainly not his rhetoric from the campaign trail. He said it was the government’s job to “take care of everybody - get used to it, conservatives!” Trying to blame Ryan exclusively for something that has the President’s fingerprints all over it is not accurate. If anything it is President Trump that has been pulled to the right on this.

Where he stands on the issue is not a mystery - he’s been perfectly clear.
Yep, this was a setback to Ryan. As was noted, while the RyanCare bill continued step-by-step through the committees, the speaker was able to tout his returning to regular order one of his pledges when he first ran for speaker to block a conservative from succeeding Speaker John Boehner (R.-OH).
