WASHINGTON President Trump on Tuesday turned up the pressure on recalcitrant Republicans to support a sweeping bill to overhaul the health care system, threatening wavering lawmakers in his party with political payback if they failed to get behind a measure that has become an early test of his negotiating power.
In a series of meetings and phone calls at the White House and on Capitol Hill, Mr. Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and Republican congressional leaders haggled with holdouts over details as they struggled to assemble a majority to support a bill that would repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. The legislation is scheduled for a floor vote on Thursday in the House.
But at a private meeting with House Republicans at the Capitol, the president also delivered a blunt warning that many of those present would lose their seats in next years midterm congressional elections if the effort failed.
Im going to come after you, Mr. Trump told Representative Mark Meadows, Republican of North Carolina, a prime holdout and the chairman of the conservative Freedom Caucus, a hotbed of concern about the legislation, according to several people in the room who described his comments on condition of anonymity because the session was private. I believe Mark and his group will come along, because honestly, a loss is not acceptable, folks.

I read about the strong arm tactics used by GOP-e and even the President, and I’m mindful of people like my retired, veteran, Army Ranger Nephew, and his unsuccessful race against a GOP-incumbent last year. Jarrin may be young, but he’s seen much more than the average congresscritter. His victor in the 2nd Congressional District in Oklahoma is supporting Obamacare Light. Jarrin posted this on his Facebook page today.
“Politically engaged Americans are watching the largest flip-flop in political history unfold.
“Since the GOP won the House in 2010, they voted 52 times to REPEAL Obamacare. After Trump won the Republican nomination, they added REPLACE to the single issue that won them the majority.
“How do GOP leaders plan to change the objective of such a highly publicized issue?
“Mass confusion.
“The legislative process is specific, lengthy, and (purposefully) obtuse. Americas lawmakers are not supposed to easily pass laws this is the basis of a limited government and the U.S. Constitution.
“However, now those same procedures (outlined in the Jeffersons Manual, the House Rules, and the Senate Rules) are used to confuse We the People.
“Our Government governs by our consent. Lawmakers cant change that, so that confuse it.
“For example, GOP supporters of Paul Ryans plan tell us that a full repeal will defund millions of people who receive healthcare from entities that were bundled into Obamacare Medicaid recipients, county health centers, Indian health care clinics, and nursing homes.
“This tactic uses fear to persuade. You are supposed to get in line and accept whats given to you because, if not, youll lose funding for your healthcare.
“Using the de-funding threat is a common fear tactic that justifies Bigger Government.
“Obamacare was purposefully written to make Americas healthcare system fail. And yes, it was written to make repeal difficult.
“Difficult. Not impossible.
“Congress telling us that we have to Repeal & Replace is a lazy argument.
“First, add an amendment for each healthcare provider (Medicaid, Indian Health Service) that restores its funding to its pre-Obamacare wording use House Rule XVI, Clause 7.
“Chicken Littles will realize that any representative can add a germane amendment to a bill. Providing a funding solution to a bill that deals with appropriations is germane and possible.
“Second, representatives repeal Obamacare with effort, intelligent focus, and political will.
“There are no limits to the number of amendments in the House, which means that every single healthcare provider can be individually accounted for using basic parliamentary procedure.
“Repeat this process (with this mentality) for any other perceived hazard of full repeal.
“Third, Congress makes law (Art 1, Sec 1).
“We empower Congress with the authority to CREATE law. Telling voters that Obamacare is difficult to repeal is really telling us that Congress doesnt understand the totality of their authority.
“If laws are interwoven with difficult language so as to create a fallout effect when repealed, then write a new law with simple language that supersedes the old bill and prevents the fallout.
“Lastly, America did not win independence with half-hearted measures.
“Go bold! Repeal Obamacare because it is immoral, unconstitutional, toxic for freedom.
“Ive made the case for full repeal, but fear tactics and flip-flopping on basic promises is more about a mindset than an issue of possibility. Dont let your representatives overly complicate things. They can write any law that they want to.
“ if they want to.”
No. I’m just saying the NYT is pretty much always full of it, even if they do occasionally get something right on rare occasions.
I don’t know what Trum really said, but I was specifically responding to Parley Baer’s comment that they were twisting what he said.
Of course they’re exempt! This is exactly ObamaCare, with the same mandated coverage and everything, except subsidies are cut for rural, older (mainly white) Americans and subsidies increased for young urban metrosexuals. I don’t understand what the plan is - maybe to get the Bernie people to vote Republican?
Ha ha ha, vote for my bill or I’ll destroy you, ha ha ha. What do you think, do you believe Trump when he keeps publicly talking about how great RyanCare is? Or are you saying he’s lying?
It’s simple. In the Tucker interview, he made the point that whatever passes out of Congress will have virtually unanimous support of Republicans because no Democrat will vote for it. This includes both the Ryan and Rand blocs. It’s the process he trusts. Plan B is let it implode.
Too bad the recalcitrant ones are the ones for repeal.
The entire thing was passed through reconciliation. It should be able to be repealed the same way.
Fake news or not, it was a Drudge headline.
Don't have time this morning to check to see if this is fake news.
If it isn't, it's really bad.
Its simple. In the Tucker interview, he made the point that whatever passes out of Congress will have virtually unanimous support of Republicans because no Democrat will vote for it.

That is dangerous thinking. Incorrect to think no democrat will vote for it.
I’m on record of saying that I’m not worried about Republicans voting against RINOCare in as much as I’m worried about Democrats voting for it.
If Phase I passes, and if - as expected now - Phase II and III fails - we will have a health care plan even worse than ObamaCare.
TrumpCare - A Democrats wet dream.
The Democrats will not vote for Ryancare nor any of its variants, and neither will the Rand wing, they just have different motives. It’s political suicide for both of these groups, again different reasons. We will have to agree to disagree.
I have faith that whatever Ryan and Rand can both agree on will be a good bill. Question is if it even exists.
Illegal invading insurgent criminal colonizing aliens..
How do you really feel? :)
They need to GO!!
They will NEVER pay for all of those things and we both know it!! RINOs have no spine.
Ta the money sent to mexico. 15 percent.
DAM STRAIGHT!!!!!
It’s absurd and moronic and destructive!!
And Ryan loves it.
Ryan SPECIFICALLY kept this provision in!!
Not like he “missed it”
Trump CANNOT pas this bill as it stands.
I have faith in him but I will be crushed if the final bill includes this and he passes it.
Maybe we should remind him in emails and on twitter bout his promise regarding healthcare.
WHY does it have to be replaced so soon!??!
Not one MOTHER ####ING person who loses their health was gonna vote for Trump anyway!!! Or any republican.
If this is the Ryan bill and Trump agrees with Ryancare, I’m disappointed in Trump.
You said, “The second and third fix will never happen.”
Really? How can you “know” that? Crystal ball? Tea leaves? Or was that prediction just a shallow “thought”(?) designed to “stroke” your ego?
I predict that anyone who chooses to goose-step behind Nancy Pelosi to PRESERVE ObamaCare will be primaried...
Ryancare does not repeal Obamacare.
It makes it worse.
It makes it even easier for illegal aliens to get coverage.
It keeps intact the federal agencies created by Obamacare, it keeps Fedzilla in charge of all medical records.
My Rep. is opposed, just like his constituents want him to be, no primary happening here.
Fake news or not, I think the only people that will have to worry are the ones that didn’t fulfill their promises and rolled over for the Ryan wing of the GOP.
Ryan is not a man for the people. And he’s showing that more and more, every day. It’s truly sickening that a person can be sent to DC and become so detached, corrupt and greedy, to the point where they don’t care anymore, don’t try to hide it and yet, are reelected . Mind boggling.
No, take it all.
Use it to build the wall.
It’s ill gotten gains and they have no right to send it to Mexico.
